About Gaby Castillo
This Retired High Plains Drifter from Wyoming/Montana just couldn't take the dark of winter in the North anymore, so I became a Supercharged Snow Bird (Drifter) and landed in Guatemala, in 2006. Seeking at least 12 hours of daily sunlight, and wanting to shovel no more snow, ever, I headed for Guatemala, the Land of the Rainbow of Colors. Worth it. I spend six months a year in Guatemala. My second home here is my second Paradise. The native people here are friendly and welcoming. Many native cultures still flourish. My old teflon brain resists learning eSpanole', but I get along well with the people here, even if they don't speak English. My Border Collie 'Tinker' travels with me. This landlubber dog was at first terrified of riding the taxi boat to our island home, but he has gotten used to the sea spray, and he looks forward to swimming in the quiet lagoon. We've made good friends here, and I am accepted as a friend who talks kinda funny. Oh well. Edwin, the security guard, is helpful to my guests, and is a patient, quiet man. His wife and child also share the property, in a staff home at the back if the property. Don't get me wrong. I still love my mountain cabin in Montana and spend six summer months above Red Lodge, very near Yellowstone National Park. Tinker loves the freedom of the Montana mountainside, and all the wild critters that live in the Beartooth Mountains, but only in Guatelama can he try to catch a gecko. ( Nope, he's just not quick enough.) In my most humble opinion: Montana and Guatemala are the 'Last Best Places.'

Why Gaby Castillo chose Monterrico
I like slightly remote places, --- close enough IN to be convenient. Far enough OUT to be private, secure, and tranquil. This large home on New Waikiki, a Pacific Coastal Island, accessible only by boat----well, it 'sings to me,' I guess. Privacy, security, tranquility. I know absolutely one else in Montana who owns a tropical Pacific Coast Island Beach House. That's remote enough for me. A vacation on a lush tropical island? That's more than a little romantic. The area is a get-away destination for both Guatemalans and visitors from other nations. The location is very convenient to services, even for this landlubber. Moist Sea Air is so soothing and sooo different from the dry, high plains air. A welcome change. While winter winds are shuffeling the snow around in Montana, I regale in the tropical climate and verdant green beauty of Mangrove Country. More Information on Facebook page 'Casa Paradise.'
What makes this house unique
Located in the heart of 'The Sailfish Capital of the World,' this unique home offers just about everything any vacationer could desire. For me, an early morning walk on volcanic beach sands with my dog Tinker gets me in the mood for a fresh hot cup of Guatemalan Mountain Grown Coffee, from farms only a few miles away. Activities? Mucho Energy?--try Deep sea Sport Fishing. The quiet type?--Enjoy the safe lagoon and private pool swimming, canoeing, small catch fishing. A little more adventuresome? Consider renting a jet ski, or power boat. The natural Channel offers protected space for excellent water skiing, and net fishing. On the wilder side, the Pacific Ocean affords a safe beach for beginners' surf boarding, (lessons available), and Ocean sailing. The volcanic sands welcome sunbathers on our private beach. Just want to relax and watch the clouds float by? Wile away some hours resting in a hammock strung between two of Casa Paradise's many coconut palm trees. Take your meals on home's lanai, or the 1st floor deck, or the 2nd floor deck, or at the swimming pool's table with submerged seating. There's a Barbeque for brazing your fresh-caught deep sea mahi mahi. Prefer a dinner out? El Capitan Restaurante', an excellent seafood &Guatemalan native food restaurant is just ten minutes away by taxi boat. Their Italian menu items are excellent, too. Ask for a menu in English. Some of the waiter-persons are even learning English ! By car, Monterrico is just 20 minutes away from Iztapa, for more restaurants, tourist shopping, and services.
