The History

This house was purchased in 2013 in pretty much original condition dating back to the early 1960’s. The owners, both in the design profession, had been looking for a winter residence in Austin for an elderly parent and the quiet neighborhood of Sherwood Oaks seemed perfect, especially with the proximity it had to their home in Travis Heights. The house was lovingly expanded, restored and furnished to this end but unfortunately the original dream had to be abandoned when ill health of the parent forced a change. Now, they have a beautiful extra home that is essentially brand new from head to toe, completely and exquisitely furnished. Their main desire, at this point, is to offer this home to visitors and newcomers to Austin to make their stay here a truly memorable experience!

The Unique Benefits of this House

The house sits on a good sized lot and has a large back yard with a privacy fence and a spacious new deck with table seating and a charcoal bar-b-que grill. In the front is a driveway which provides off-street parking for up to two cars. Inside, the rooms are very spacious and well-lit as a result of a major addition which expanded the Living Room into the original carport and significantly enlarged the Kitchen and Master Bedroom and Bathroom. All of the elements in this lovely house have been well thought-out to the last detail. Materials and finishes from flooring and walls, to cabinets and counters, to fixtures, to windows and doors, not to mention furniture are high-end and brand new. There are original works of art and state of the art media, including flat-screen TV’s and Wireless Internet. A new wood-burning fireplace adds a romantic touch to the Living Area as well as provides a toasty place to hang out during the cooler months in Austin. The cozy wallpapered Study provides a desk for computer work and another sleeping option in the form of a twin pull-out air bed that folds out of a small settee. The Master Bedroom has a beautiful large window overlooking the back yard from its Library Alcove with reading chair and desk. Both Bedrooms boast Queen sized beds. Additionally, there is a wonderful Laundry Room, also facing the back yard, with stackable washer/dryer and a sink and folding area. In the event of an additional visitor, there is a fold-out queen sofa with integral air mattress and pump in the Living Room.

With Study, Library Alcove, Living Area and Deck, there are many places to hang out either with others or privately in this home. The open plan between Kitchen and Dining Room and Living Room make it ideal for social interaction while the main Sleeping Areas being well away from the Living Space allows for private withdrawal if desired.

The house is situated adjacent to the beautiful campus of St. Edward’s University with its running track, collegiate sports fields (weekend baseball games) and live theater all of which attract off-campus visitors. Stacy Park and Pool are only blocks away by foot as is a major Grocery Store. Walking to Soco and all of the amenities it offers is a 10-15 minute walk. South Congress Ave. in Austin is a very ‘hip’ urban Mecca with Art Studios, Cafes, Restaurants, Trailer eateries, Tourist Shops, Antique Shops, etc. On weekends, local artists set up booths along to sell their wares. Additionally, a major bus route is located along Congress Ave. and access to Town Lake, Hike and Bike Trail, Barton Springs and Downtown is literally minutes away.

This house was lovingly restored with great attention to detail and many additional touches to make it a beautiful and comfortable place to stay.

This property offers a traveler to Austin a wonderful vantage point from which to see this thriving city. It is located in an older, quiet neighborhood that is literally steps away from a university campus on one side and the bustle of the vibrant SOCO scene on the other. It is on local bus routes, walking distance to shops and restaurants and minutes from downtown Austin and the Capital.

What makes this house unique

My husband and I were instantly attracted to this beautiful central neighborhood and the amenities that surround it. The house, itself, sits on a large lot with mature trees and a new privacy fence surrounding it. There is a large wood deck with outdoor seating and umbrella. There is off street parking for two cars. The home is literally at the foot of the hill on which the beautiful campus of St. Edward's University sits with it's collegiate fields, tennis courts and walking trails. The house is walking distance to Stacy Pool and it's lovely public park with hike and bike trails.
