Los Barriles Cottage Rental Photos and Description
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)
Think quiet nights listening to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, the sun rising brilliantly over the Sea of Cortez, the songbirds darting from tree to tree in your own oasis garden, and feeding a curious iguana or two. Take a walk on the beach and look for seashells with your morning coffee. Enjoy a good book and actually have time to finish it. Life is unhurried here.
Have you ever heard a whale sigh? Or spent a whole day just watching the manta rays jump, the sea lions cavort, or the ospreys and pelicans soar overhead. Want a little more action? Take your kayak out into the middle of it, wind or kite surf until the sun sets. Then watch the full moon rise over the quiet water from your stand up paddle board, the pinks and purples of the evening fading into starry night. Grab an ATV and head up to the waterfalls, or into town to enjoy a feast at a local restaurant (Be sure to wear your sandals and shorts. We love being casual here.) Tortilla stands or gourmet restaurants, take your pick. Cervesas and fine wines. The mood is friendly and the atmosphere is laid back.
This is how a vacation was supposed to be. We created a home that combines great accommodations with a quiet, tranquil setting. Added to that, a perfect location, all the modern conveniences, and a price that is affordable. Cottage on the Cove was designed for our own family to come and enjoy a week or two in this private guest house at Las Cascadas, our beautiful oceanfront estate. We'd love to share it with you.

We have the best of both worlds, Lake Tahoe, California and Baja, Mexico. Over 30 years ago we sailed the Sea of Cortez and discovered this amazing place. 10,000 sea miles later our cruising adventure ended but not our love of the ocean, its sea life, and the rugged coast of Baja. Our family enjoys both mountain and ocean sports. Our girls grew up skiing the Sierras and body surfing Hawaii. We still hike Yosemite's back country in the summer but find ourselves looking forward to our trip south at the first sign of snow.
When he isn’t sitting on the lanai overlooking the ocean, you’ll find my husband hitting ugly drop shots on our local tennis courts, teeing up on challenging courses with his golf buddies, or sharing a fresh mango Popsicle, curbside, with Saki (our grand”pup”).
I love watching the Humpback whales play off our beach during the annual migration. Afternoons are perfect for painting or design projects. The cool evenings even better for hikes up the mountainside or walks on the beach with family and friends.
Growing up in Hawaii, I felt the Islands’ natural beauty and lifestyle was unsurpassed. I was wrong. Yes, Hawaii has beautiful beaches, sun and fun, and a rich cultural heritage. So do we! In fact, this is the Hawaii of the 1950s with margaritas and mariachis thrown in. We left our Hawaiian beach home in the 90s to the crowds and traffic that now plague “paradise”, and rediscovered all that we had loved about Island-living…in Los Barriles, Mexico.
The night breezes are fragrant with plumeria and pikaki. Mango, papaya, citrus, and banana trees keep us in fresh fruit for breakfast. Dune buggies and ATVs are the preferred way to get around our coastal beach roads, surf and kite boards strapped to the back. You won’t hear ukulele music (well, you might!) but you will hear classical guitarists and even world-class fiddlers in the outdoor restaurants that Los Barriles is famous for. Step back in time to the days of long boards and beach shacks. Think North Shore with shave ice and “plate lunch”, complete with a 50’s price. Eat your heart out Hawaii. The Endless Summer is alive and well in sunny, southern Baja, in a place fondly called “LB”.
Tranquility, Atmosphere, Ambiance. Three words to describe what’s important in a vacation. Add to that being close to all the action but just far enough to leave it for a good night’s sleep. Cottage on the Cove is just north of Los Barriles. That means that you can drive a short 10 minutes into town to dine, shop, and play. Return to enjoy the quiet and solitude of your private home at The Cove of Agua de la Costa. Share a walk on the beach at sunset if you choose with neighbors from all over the world. Better yet, take a run along the coast road under the towering, weathered cliffs. Either one begins at your doorstep.
Sheltered in its own mini arroyo, The Cottage takes advantage of the cool, evening breezes. Your bedroom doors open to the ocean. The sound of the palm trees and the waves lull you to sleep. Butterflies and songbirds winter in this part of the Baja. They gather in the garden in the cool morning hours, entertaining you over breakfast. The coral reef awaits your exploration. We are spoiled. I like to think that all of Baja, Mexico is like this. It isn’t. Los Barriles is unique and Cottage on the Cove is one of a kind.
