Designed and hand built by professional sculptor, Bryan Tedrick, the Moon House is a sculptural jewel situated in the heart of historic Glen Ellen. Uniquely curvilinear in form, this intimate space is an ideal location for adventuring in the Valley of the Moon.
Restaurants, a gourmet grocery, and the Jack London Saloon are within one block of the Moon House. Take walks in the neighborhood’s regional and state parks and peruse Jack London’s Beauty Ranch. Wineries abound and the Sonoma Mission at the Sonoma Plaza is just 15 minutes away.

Bryan Tedrick and I have two children, Nathalie, 27, and Jakob, 24. I retired in 2013 after teaching at the local middle school for many years. Currently, I am working as an education consultant in the Valley. Bryan is a sculptor, beginning work on his latest Burning Man commission. If you would like to see more of Bryan's work, check out his web site.
Bryan also designed and built the Moon House.
We purchased the property in 1990.
Terry Roberts purchased this house in 1990
Although Bryan and I both grew up in the Bay Area, we always loved visiting the wine country - both the Napa and the Sonoma Valleys. After our daughter, Nathalie, was born, we decided that it was time to move away from the city and settle in a more rural area. We picked Glen Ellen for our home because we love the small town feel, yet it has all the conveniences of a larger city...our fabulous grocery store is just down the street, along with some terrific restaurants within walking distance. (Not to mention, my bank, my post office, and my hairdresser).
We chose the specific location of our home and the Moon House because we are in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. Our home, and the Moon House, are on our quiet little street...but not far from the center of town.
We spent a relaxing long weekend at the delightful Moon House. It was very quiet, private, and peaceful. The kitchen was well equipped, and the small aerial reading area was a great place to sit and write on a raining afternoon. The rest of the house was clean and we really enjoyed its style and decoration. The overall design of the house gave a feeling of spaciousness and freedom. Terry's warm welcome and the invitation to visit Bryan's studio were much appreciated. One couldn't ask for a more convenient location in the center of the wine country. We look forward to our next stay ...
It was absolutely perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not stay anywhere else!
The house is close to restaurants and the owners are so helpful and it is fully equipped with everything that you could need.
Don't stay in Napa or Sonoma...stay here and drive! You will not be disappointed!
My husband and I loved the artistry and love that went into building this awesome house! Terry was awesome too, with all of the maps, booklets, personal suggestions on where to eat, shop, and visit. We felt right at home - many lovely personal touches, from great bedding to fully stocked kitchen. The location of the Moon House couldn't have been any better - we were centrally located in the heart of wine (and beer) country - we visited Lauginitas, Bear Republic, Russian River, & Mikkeller on one day, then Sonoma another, followed by Napa, we even found a half marathon to run while we were there - it was our first trip in this area, but certainly not our last!!!
We can't stop smiling about our stay at the Moon House. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights while taking a Honeymoon in wine country, and everything exceeded our expectations. Terry was so helpful and accommodating throughout the entire process of planning our stay. We arrived to a handwritten note and a bottle of local wine! We loved the unique setting and proximity to town for easy market trips and dinner spots. The kitchen is fully stocked - even had coffee and tea! We also loved the outdoor patio area for evenings under the stars. We spent one day at wineries in Napa and another day at wineries in Sonoma, but the house is a great centralized location from which to explore both regions. Terry also provided maps, brochures, and suggestions for hiking and dining in the area.
We will definitely be back!! It's such a special place. It was the highlight of our week in California because it was a unique way to experience the life in wine country. We felt at home :) and well taken care of throughout the stay with plenty of towels, bedding, etc. We recommend checking out The Fig Cafe in town as well as the Glen Ellen Market to stock up on picnic lunch for winery hopping.
Loved everything about the Moon House and the warm hospitality.
Staying at the Moon House is a unique experience. You are encircled by a dome of sky, but grounded in all the creature comforts anyone could need! Clearly it was designed by an artist, and arranged by one who is skilled in the art of hospitality! It's the perfect location for exploring the Sonoma area with great restaurants, a gourmet grocery, and a pleasant regional park with walking path all within two blocks from the front door.
My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend. The place itself is a work of art. Its layout is clever and fanciful, while still being functional and efficient. There are lots of neat things to explore in the building as well as outside. I'll let you discover these on your own.
Two things worth noting: The owners thought of everything. The kitchen has everything you need (we cooked two nights!) and there are little amenities that were perfect. Whenever my partner or I said, "Oh shoot, I wonder if they have..." it was like the item magically appeared in the house. Very well thought through rental. The owners deserve major kudos for this. Also, the location can't be beat. You're a very short walk to several great restaurants and a high-end grocery store. Glen Ellen is a little treasure. We did a lot of biking and there are terrific rides that leave from the doorstep.
My husband and I enjoyed three wonderful nights at this delightful cottage. On arrival were greeted with a nice bottle of wine as well as Peet's coffee. The creative, original design of the cottage and sculptural elements make for a fun and interesting stay. It is clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped to prepare a full meal. As noted, it is just around the corner from the excellent Glen Ellen Market (sister to the Sonoma Market) where you can find excellent quality food to prepare or to take away from their comprehensive deli and salad bar. And you can easily walk the block or two to several good restaurants. Glen Ellen's location places you close to great wineries, parks, and a short drive into Sonoma. A binder with great information and other visitor material are available and especially useful for those not familiar with the area. Terry was very responsive and great to deal with and given the timing of our stay, we were able to check-in early and check-out a little later (of course not always doable if others guests are departing or arriving) and we appreciate her flexibility. We are fairly regular visitors to Glen Ellen and Sonoma and this is one of the better private rental finds. We will definitely be back. Thank you Terry and Bryan.
