Paauilo Cabin Rental Photos and Description
1 Bedroom Cabin On 2 Acres Of Land In Rural Hamakua
Relax and rejuvenate in Hamakua. This private cabin has its own 2 acres of land in upcountry Paauilo. Quiet and peaceful, it's a perfect place to relax and unwind. Small country roads invite long walks and cool evenings offer good sleeping temperatures. In the morning wake to the sounds of birds chattering while you enjoy your coffee outside. Sometimes wild turkeys wander through the yard looking for stray bugs. This is farm country – horses, cows, sheep and chickens can all be found nearby. Paauilo is still truly out of the busy tourists areas and offers a taste of old Hawaii.
10-15 minutes away is the historic town of Honokaa, with restaurants, shopping, a small grocery store and a beautifully renovated movie theater that offers first run movies and live music.
Honokaa has also recently started having a monthly 'First Friday'. The first Friday of every month the stores stay open late & there is live music, lots of great food and even a fashion show.
It's a fun, local even that's definitely worth checking out if you're here on a First Friday night.
Accommodations at our cabin include one full bedroom with a queen size bed, a full bath, a full kitchen and laundry facilities. We even are lucky enough to have on site professional massages available in the cabin - unwind even more after a long day at the beach or whatever time of day you choose.
This is a cozy house, only 540 square feet, a wonderful place to welcome you home after a day at the beach or sightseeing. Our cabin is clean and bright, with lots of windows. It's a great place to tuck away and simply enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

We have lived on this property for almost 30 years. That is so hard to believe! It is true that time flies when you're having fun. We actually fell into this place kind of by accident, not knowing anything about the island when we moved here. Lucky us as we love living in Paauilo and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We've raised our children here and 12 years ago built the cabin. We have been renting it but it has been open for a few months while we had different friends come and stay. We found that it made us so happy to have visitors enjoying Paauilo too that we decided to offer it as a vacation rental. We actually live on the 3 acres adjacent to the cabin property. Both places have their own private space as we built the cabin on the other side of a small macadamia nut orchard. This orchard needs a lot of work from us as it's aging and growing over, but in the meantime it provides lovely privacy. We are working on it! As you can see from the pictures, we are in the process of regrowing our lawn. We had some horses on the land for awhile and are now converting back to lawn. We'll post better pictures as the grass continues to grow in.
We love Paauilo for many reasons. We love that when it's incredibly hot in the summer in Kona we can go home to some cooler air in the evening; that we can spend a morning or an afternoon at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and that nearby Honokaa provides movies and restaurants when we don't want to cook. We love the outdoor beauty, the sunshine through the trees, the slowness of a walk on a country road - and the commute to work is only 15 minutes and without a single stoplight! Our friends that visit tell us they really enjoy that we're between Kona and Hilo so they can go touring in either direction. I think that's a good point. This really is a big island and less driving is always good! People who have stayed in the house also tell us that it feels like a retreat from their regular life - quiet and peaceful. It helped them relax. One friend even mentioned that it reminded her that she wanted to write a book one day & this would be a perfect place to write! We hope she does, it would be great to be a part of that dream. And we hope that others see our cabin as a possibility for a retreat for themselves.
As for the house, we really hope you'll like it. We keep it very clean and well maintained. With a full kitchen, bath, bedroom and laundry it's a pretty cozy cabin.
