Overview

Paauilo Cabin Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom Cabin On 2 Acres Of Land In Rural Hamakua

Relax and rejuvenate in Hamakua. We are located between the town of Hilo and the beaches on the Kona coast. Paauilo is a great location to stay if you want to explore the Hamakua coast and anywhere on the northern side of the island. Honokaa and Waipio Valley are very close by. A scenic drive on Hwy 19 will take you to Hilo to the east, or Kamuela, Hawi and a choice of beautiful beaches to the west.

Our private cabin has its own 2 acres of land in upcountry Paauilo. Quiet and peaceful, it's a perfect place to relax and unwind. Small country roads invite long walks and cool evenings offer good sleeping temperatures. Wake to the sounds of birds chattering while you enjoy your coffee outside. Paauilo is still truly out of the busy tourists areas and offers a taste of old Hawaii.

10-15 minutes away is the historic town of Honokaa, with restaurants, shopping, a small grocery store and a beautifully renovated movie theater that offers first run movies and live music. Honokaa has also recently started having a monthly 'First Friday'. The first Friday of every month the stores stay open late & there is live music, lots of great food and even a fashion show. It's a fun, local event that's definitely worth checking out if you're here on a First Friday night.

Accommodations at our cabin include one full bedroom with a queen size bed, a full bath, a full kitchen and laundry facilities. We even are lucky enough to have on site professional massages available in the cabin - unwind even more after a long day at the beach. This is a cozy house, a wonderful place to welcome you home after a day at the beach or sightseeing. Our cabin is clean and bright, with lots of windows. It's a great place to tuck away and simply enjoy the beauty of the Hawaii.

Why Diane Higham chose Paauilo

We have lived on this property for almost 30 years. That is so hard to believe! It is true that time flies when you're having fun. We actually fell into this place kind of by accident, not knowing anything about the island when we moved here. Lucky us as we love living in Paauilo and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We've raised our children here and about 10 years ago built the cabin. We have been renting it but it has been open for a few months while we had different friends come and stay. We found that it made us so happy to have visitors enjoying Paauilo too that we decided to offer it as a vacation rental. We live on the 3 acres adjacent to the cabin property. Both places have their own private space as we built the cabin on the other side of a small macadamia nut orchard. This orchard needs a lot of work from us as it's aging and growing over, but in the meantime it provides lovely privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

We love Paauilo for many reasons. We love that when it's incredibly hot in the summer in Kona we can go home to some cooler air in the evening; that we can spend a morning or an afternoon at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and that nearby Honokaa provides movies and restaurants when we don't want to cook. We love the outdoor beauty, the sunshine through the trees, the slowness of a walk on a country road - and the commute to work is only 15 minutes and without a single stoplight! Visiting friends tell us they really enjoy that we're between Kona and Hilo so they can go touring in either direction. I think that's a good point. This really is a big island and less driving is always good! People who have stayed in the cabin also tell us that it feels like a retreat from their regular life - quiet and peaceful. It helped them relax. That's how we feel about it too. A great place to come home to. It makes us really happy to have visitors in our cabin enjoying their own getaway in Hawaii.

As for the house, we really hope you'll like it. We keep it very clean and well maintained. With a full kitchen, bath, bedroom and laundry it's a pretty cozy cabin.

Fantastic

We loved the cabin. Diane and Lynn were the best hosts. Diane met us as we arrived with fresh eggs from her chickens for our stay. we did not see them again until our last day, unless we sought them out. The cabin is private, the WIFi is great, a totally functioning home with complete privacy. We loved every minute, you are a fool if you do not book this place if you are looking for solitude. The hard part for me was no TV I would sugest some TV, other than that this was perfect. Tim and I (Bill) have made life long friends and cannot wait to go back. A great location to get to anywhre. Thank you angain Diane and Lynn XO

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Country Cabin is a very sweet and cozy place. It was incredibly clean when we arrived and had all of the amenities we needed. The property itself is very quiet and peaceful. Though it is off the main road (which we thought of as a plus), it is a convenient location for exploring the northern area of the Island. We found it very easy to head out for the North Kohala coast beaches for the day and make a stop in Hawi, Waimea or Honokoaa on the way back for shopping or food or scenic viewing. Diane was wonderful and made us feel right at home. She gave us total privacy but was just down the hill if we needed her for anything. She also provided us with a super comfortable air bed for our 9 year old daughter. This was the perfect place for us and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful place to stay, where you can cook your own meals and feel at home while exploring the Northern parts of the Big Island!

Wish we could have stayed longer

  • 5 of 5

Diane was a wonderful hostess--very friendly and responsive from my first inquiry about the property until we got to meet her when we arrived. The cabin had just about everything we could want for our two-night stay, and Diane specifically asked if we could think of anything else she could provide, so it may have even more convenience items by the time someone else gets to enjoy a visit to the cabin. The washer and dryer were a blessing, and the fully-stocked kitchen made meal preparation easy. Diane was kind enough to either stock the cabin or leave the "leftovers" from other guests including some pantry and refrigerator items, shampoos, bug spray, etc. She even thought to supply some reusable shopping bags as many of the stores don't supply bags for free on the island. Had we been able to stay longer, we would have enjoyed the boogie boards, coolers, and other beach items. The cabin was quiet, private, and cool. I would certainly consider staying at the cabin again on a future visit to Hawaii--but would book a longer stay so I could enjoy all it has to offer.

A month of paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cabin for a month and loved every minute of it. It surely is a slice of peaceful heaven. Everything we needed was there. This was our 4th trip to the Big Island and our first stay at the cabin, but it won't be our last. We will definitely be renting there again.

I personally loved the wild turkeys, the horses in the orchard and the little picturesque town of Honokaa. This historical town had all the amenities for your stay. The Tex Drive Inn restaurant has such great food with hot fresh malasadas. They are amazing!!!

We cannot say enough about our "host parents". We have made new life long friends.

Mahalo to the both of you for this experience and providing us with your help and kindness.

Wonderful, relaxing, private place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 6 year old daughter and I, stayed in this cabin for almost four months while we built our own home here on the island. I can't even begin to say how much we enjoyed our stay here. As far as the property goes, it is so private you could walk around outside in your underwear, there's not a single person around. It's very peaceful. Paauilo is a very nice place to stay if you want to get away from noise and the hustle and bustle of more touristy areas at the end of the day. You are only a short drive to great beaches south of Kawaihae, and excellent dining in Waimea. The cabin is adorable and very well maintained with a great floor plan. The owners are extremely helpful on giving information on things to do and are very nice. My daughter spent a lot of time down on their property gardening and feeding chickens with them. My husband and I stayed at another rental in paauilo on our honeymoon a year ago and I can't even say how nice it is to hang out at the beach, go out for dinner, and then drive home to a private retreat like this. I would recommend staying here to anyone who loves the outdoors, beautiful country views, and privacy.

Peace, Tranquility & Comfort

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this beautiful & peaceful property. The cabin was well-equipped, bright and comfortable. Having complete privacy was a definite highlight. An added bonus was that the owners live on the neighboring acreage, so whenever we needed suggestions on where to go or what to see, they were extremely friendly & helpful.
