We are a retired couple of professor’s very kind and helpful, we live in Oaxaca as well. Loves the city and we had run a bed and breakfast in our home for several years receiving college students and people who comes to Oaxaca to learn Spanish. Ricardo Cuevas purchased this apartment in 2011
Jalatlaco is one of those places that continue to keep its charm almost secretly. Despite the apparent closeness to the historic center of Oaxaca City 10 minutes walk, anyone can wander the cobblestone streets of this small colony and immediately feel the calm that surrounds him. The secret of this calm is that most of its buildings are inhabited by villagers, only a few have been conditioned for guest house, hotel or restaurant. Inside the Barrio de Jalatlaco you can visit the Temple of San Matías Jalatlaco.
La casa Del Barrio is in a great location, everything is easily reached, historic downtown, markets, autobus terminal, you can walk to many places in a few minutes, or take a cab at $3 the single trip. La casa Del Barrio is a quiet place and peaceful, It is private all yours to enjoy. No other guest just for you, it’s a great place to enjoy Oaxaca and have all the conveniences like Wi-Fi Internet, Cable TV, full kitchen and everything to make your stay wonderful.
All the comforts of home within walking distance of all the action. Comfortable, clean and bright. We enjoyed this place very much. Our host was extremely accommadating and helpful. Highly recommended.
Stayed for a week in mid March and absolutely loved this home. It is very comfortable, walking distance to all major areas of Oaxaca and the Owner extremely accommodating and helpful.
I strongly recommend this place! A must stay and a definite return for us! Thank you!
We are 5 friends who enjoyed this charming "casa" for the month of Jqnuary 2015. The location in the barrio of Jalatlaco is very close to Oaxaca's historic district. The Zocolo, several parks, Santo Domingo Church, art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, small tiendas, la Merced market, laundry--all are just a short walk away. Ricardo, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and was always responsive to our requests and able to answer our questions. For a short, or a long stay in Oaxaca, we give Casa del Barrio high marks.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Barrio - Ricardo and his parents were friendly and helpful. This is an easy walk to Centro Historico, in a very safe neighbourhood. We walked everywhere! Ricardo was very helpful when we had to delay our trip by a day and worked things out for us, also offering to help with airlines etc.
I'd recommend this place to anyone!
We truly enjoyed our stay in Casa Del Barrio.
First of all Ricardo was very nice, answered our questions, gave great suggestions, and very responsive.
The place is well kept, in a nice neighborhood - about a 10 minute walk to the Santo Domingo Church. The walk felt safe even with our kids late in the evenings. The location was ideal for us.
The apartment had a nice set up the three rooms and 3 bathrooms and a decent kitchen. Our two girls made themselves right at home and enjoyed the hammock. The weather was great so we enjoyed having breakfast out on the balcony.
Ricardo set us up with a cook for one evening. She cooked a great meal for a very reasonable price. An added benefit was that she told us about one of the church festivals which we promptly went to and had a great time.
The TV, DVD and Wifi worked great.
We would highly recommend this apartment for families traveling with kids. Our kids took painting and weaving lessons in town.
This unit is above the owners and below a soon to be finished unit. It is very quiet, safe and equipped with all the kitchen basics. Housekeeper came during the middle of our 10 day stay and changed and cleaned everything. Very safe, pleasant walk to the heart of the historical area. If you want to party hard this is not the place for you but if you want a very pleasant, economical place to stay this just might be it. Only drawback is limited hot water in shower but Oaxaca has a water shortage so we planned efficiently. We were 2 people in our 60's and my son and his wife who are in their late 20's.
