Very pleased with our stay here. Great neighborhood, quite, close to train station. You don't even notice the train after a few hours there.the opener was very informative, and accommodating to our schedule. Plan to visit Chicago again and hope to stay here again.

A Winner

When I travel, I like to immerse myself in the rhythm of a location. I love Chicago, and this serene, convenient apartment allowed me to experience it fully at my own pace. The L is close and easy to use -- pick up a 7-day pass and the city is yours. The neighborhood itself is pleasant and walkable, and I enjoyed heading out to Trader Joe's for food and wine. Yes, you will hear the train rumble through, but for me, that's part of the atmosphere, and certainly not a bother.

I agree with past reviewers that you need a little athleticism to step in and out of the tub, but this was not a major issue for me (and might not even matter at all if you are taller than my 5'3"!). It might prove difficult for someone with limited mobility, however.

In short, I have very fond memories of my stay in this terrific space, and hope to return soon. I would happily recommend it to anyone...unless the week in question interferes with one of MY visits, in which case I want dibs!

Good value, good property

We stayed at this property the week of August 14, 2011. The apartment itself had plenty of room, was well furnished and had all the comforts of home. The walk to the metro was as convenient as advertised, and the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods between the apartment and downtown Chicago were all wonderful discoveries.

Only 'complaints' (which were not inconveniences for us specifically but worth nothing for other potential renters):
- Bathroom is clean, but small, with an old style tube that requires you to step in and out of the tub
- The metro line runs over the road, just a few houses down from the location - on arrival, you'll be startled by how loud the train is: when you close the door and are inside, you'll barely notice it after about an hour.
- If you're planning on spending a lot of time downtown, or around other areas in Chicago, the train ride can be crowded at peak times, and is about 30-40 mins to downtown - if you time your rides poorly, you may be standing for a while.

Bottom line, great place, extremely accommodating and friendly owner, and would stay again on a future visit. Thanks again Victoria!

My husband and daughter and I rented this Home Away while in Chicago recently. I am in a seminary program and needed a place for over a week. This garden apartment was spacious and fit our needs perfectly. Very clean and nicely decorated. Our biggest concern was that we did not receive cell phone service in the apartment but I understand that is common for Chicago. We did receive internet service but at times it was intermittent. Our other concern was that the temperature(heat/A/C) was controlled by the apartment above us. We were very cold during our stay, which was preferable to hot, since the city was experiencing heat warnings. The owner was very gracious and met us at our convenience to check in and did provide clean towels midweek. We would most likely stay here again and may next summer when I participate in my class again but will be aware of the few concerns we had. It is also very close to the "L" and metra which was noisy until we became used to the sounds of trains and then we did not notice it as much. That would be a wonderful convenience to those who did not want to rent a car while staying. The apartment is very close to Wrigley and in a wonderful neighborhood where we felt very safe. Parking is in the street and most nights we were able to park quite close the the apt.

Owner's Response: Jeannie,

It was a pleasure having you and your family as guests during your stay in Chicago.

I thank you for your comments and certainly wish to correct any inconveniences.

Cell service I believe varies with service provider but I will check with my provider to see if there is anything to adjust reception. I did spend time in the apartment after your departure and I too was experiencing issues with the internet. I researched and discovered that the router/modem had been moved. Additionally cd cases had been placed on top of one of the boxes which limited the signal. The issue has been corrected. Our Chicago weather really packed a punch for your stay with extremely high temperatures (record breaking heat). I was very concerned about guests being too hot...I clearly went to the opposite extreme...so so sorry, I will be less heavy handed with the thermostat in the future. Our wonderful "L" is near & does make some noise, but we have a beautiful new stop at Irving Park (2 blocks away) with escalators and elevators for all to use. Being near the Brown Line is a great covenience for getting around town...I can only say the train 'noise' is one of the unique identifying sounds of our city...

Again, it was so nice having you stay during your visit. I thank you for leavng the apartment as you found it and certainly hope to see you next year.

Best to all,
Victoria
