This house is very spacious and cozy. My family and I have been coming to this house for several years now and will continue to do so for years to come. The renter is a pleasure to work with. We always enjoy our stay.
It is large, location is great, but we found it not very clean and it seems occupied by the owner or another year-around tenant (clothes in closets, more than half of the refrigerator was stocked with used stuff, someones shampoo and shaving stuff in cabinets, etc).
I have already send the owner this as feedback:
We could not lock the backdoor because the lock seemed busted (the plate on the inside was loose, i.e. not fully attached to the door). We also found that the backdoor of the first floor bedroom that opens to the deck didn't lock. While you let me know by e-mail that *you* might trust that the area is "crime free", I can assure you that mentioning that is not sufficient for some guests to feel absolutely safe at night. I'm sure some city folks will find the advice to "push a chair against it" in lieu of a lock very strange.
While the house was generally clean in terms of dust and cleanness of the floors, many areas/items were not as clean as we are used to at home or when renting vacation homes. Some examples: Utensils in the kitchen were dirty and a lot of knives and pans were rusted to a degree that I would not use them. The rugs in the house and the mats in the bathrooms didn't look clean (I'm sure the mats came out of the washer, but again: they didn't *look* clean -- and that's definitely not what you'd like to see when you enter a rental property). See some pics are attached to see what I mean. The smell of a dog throughout the first floor was also clear. We found hairs in the shower upstairs and did use some cleaning stuff from the kitchen sink cabinet to clean before taking a shower. Altogether, I must admit that I found the rental somewhat overpriced. This is when I compare price, cleanness, and location across some properties that we've rented in New England through the HomeAway site.
The location of the house is fantastic and so was all the space. We had a great time sitting around the fireplace at night. We loved the contemporary design. But as you can see by this feedback, we were not fully content with cleanness.
I would not recommend this place to friends and I won't rent it again.
My family and I have been going to Tricia's house for 3 years now. The house is very spacious and clean. There is more than enough room for the 10 of us. Other than the size and accomodations, it is directly between Boston and Long Island so both families have a short trip (2.5 hours) for a weekend getaway. We love this family gathering and plan on continuing to come to Tricia's for years to come.
This home is a fantastic place to come for a weekend getaway with a large group. We were three couples who slept comfortably in three separate and private bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. We were able to cook and have a fireplace and visit the various attractions in the Berkshires. The house was clean, the kitchen had an array of cooking tools and utensils, and enough space for a lot more people. I would definitely come back and highly recommend Tricia's home.
We had a lovely time at this house. It was clean, spacious and well-stocked. The kitchen allowed for cooking for a group and there was plenty of room to spread out. The dining room was comfortable and there is a beautiful sunroom off the kitchen which is a great place to hang out. There were three full baths which made it easy for everyone to have access. We were particularly appreciative that the rental was available for a weekend (which is all the time we had). We're hoping to go back.
We really enjoyed Tricia's hidden hideaway in July 2012. First off, the place is huge, and while the master bedroom with skylight and Jacuzzi tub were pretty amazing, there really wasn't a bad bedroom to be found. Tricia was super helpful and communicative throughout the stay as well as leading up to it -- should anything have gone wrong it was obvious that she would have been ready to swoop in and help out.
Our favorite piece of this stay was really the location. It's down a long dirt road and then a little further. We felt completely tucked away into the woods with all of the modern amenities provided.
I'd definitely recommend Tricia's abode to friends -- great bang for your buck!
