I fell in love with the beaches at this end of the island. Best in Hawaii!

We stayed in this house for close to 3 weeks and it was magnificent!
We were 4 adults and a 7 year old. The house was a perfect size for us, with enough space indoors and/or outdoors to retreat for some quiet time. The property itself is quite breathtaking! With a spectacular view of the mountains from the back yard and other beautiful jungle foliage. At night, it was a real treat to sit outside with the geckos and stargaze of the large lanai! Everyone enjoyed the outdoor shower and tub too! Especially my daughter.
The house felt very spacious with it's high ceilings and with the ceiling fans on and the doors open, it never got too hot. Judy has provided extra fans and even two portable air conditioners to cool you off, but we never needed to use any of them. Our beds were quite comfy and bedrooms bright with lots of windows.
So many things were provided with the house. We had everything we needed for a day at the beach, in the room at the bottom of the stairs! Boogie boards, chairs, water shoes, towels, and even buckets and toys! The closet in the front room was also loaded with great stuff if you are coming with kids. lots of toys and books, even a playpen (which we didn't need)! There is also a small library of books for the adults too, in the master bedroom and some DVDs in the livingroom! We were also pleasantly surprised by the amount of condiments and coffee in the house. Also, all of the dishes that were provided were perfect!
The beach is not so far from the house. A short 7 minute walk over to Tunnels where we could sit and play all day. We even saw several endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals right on the beach, and of course humpbacks jumping out of the ocean in the distance!
Beaux, the caretaker, was such a lovely lady! Always ready to help when we needed it (Ie: empty propane tank) and even after a windstorm and power outage one night, she called in the morning to check if we were okay and if there was anything we needed.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience! We were all quite thrilled with the house and its beautiful location. We all collectively decided that when we come back to Kauai, we will stay at this house again! Even the neighbours are great!
Thanks Judy and Beaux for such a fantastic holiday!! Hope to see you guys again!
our eight-day stay was just about perfect. With six adults and a baby the layout of this house was ideal. Everyone enjoyed the outdoor shower. There is ample seating for any occasion. The design provides plenty of private spots yet it's an open concept place. We would definitely rent this house again.
My husband and I just returned from a two-week stay in this lovely home and we would highly recommend it. Due to a prior negative review, the owner is replacing the bed in the master bedroom and, in fact, if our schedules could have aligned, it would have been delivered during our stay. However, we really found no need for a replacement and found the existing bed to be fine.
This home is situated in a fantastic area if you are looking for peace, relaxation, beauty, water sports, hiking, and hanging out on gorgeous beaches during your vacation. While the house is located in a quiet area, you are close to many activities you can enjoy. The hosurrounded by beautiful foliage in the back and on the sides. There is a large lawn out front with three stately pine trees along the road. There is a large lanai in the back that provides plenty of relaxing and entertaining space, and you have a view of the tropical landscaping and natural greenery. The home was very clean and we didn't find one thing that wasn't in proper working order. While we aren't gourmet cooks by any means (and definitely not while on vacation), we found everything we could possibly need in the kitchen, plenty of towels and linens, and supplies for laundry and cleaning when necessary. The laundry room has the most extensive supply of beach necessities we have ever seen and we have traveled to Hawaii somewhere between 10-15 times. We always rent a house or condo. There are beach chairs, umbrella, inner tubes, kids toys, water shoes for the rough, rocky areas and more.
Unfortunately for us, Kauai was having a very hot summer (per the locals who were complaining about the heat) and it took some adjusting to the heat and humidity. There is no A/C but, most likely, you wouldn't need it under normal circumstances. I don't believe there are very few homes in the area which have A/C, because it is usually unnecessary. The two weeks we were there, the temperatures were high and the trade winds were low, so that was our only negative in our trip. This is something, of course, NO ONE has control over. Although, we did not even mention the heat to Beaux, the property manager, she came by and left four brand-new fans to add to the ones already supplied in the home. In addition to portable fans, every bedroom and the living room have ceiling fans. (To be continued)...
My husband and I, with our four teenage granddaughters, have stayed in this beach house three times in the past year! We LOVE it!!! Three great beaches within five minutes from the house, and one, Tunnels, probably one of the best snorkeling beaches in the world, only a .3 mile walk. This is our last night this trip....it has been a little quieter than usual because it is so hard to leave. The Jungle hike is fabulous, Ke e is a great end-of-the-day beach for us because parking is easier. We love having the kitchen to cook at home a lot....the new pans are terrific Judy. Beaux is just grand....parking the car under cover, having a washer and dryer, an outdoor shower and a shower at the garage when you get back from the beach. We could go on forever. It is 96 degrees in Oregon right now and 106 in Utah where the grand kids come from so no one thinks the high of 83 while we were here was anything. We couldn't recommend this home more highly. Plus the ice maker works great, and the BBQ is terrific.
This is the second time we have rented this wonderful house near Tunnels Beach--a great value! The location is perfect with only a short walk required to reach one of the best beaches on the planet. The house is perfect for a family with a large living area (comfortable furniture and nice TV!), and the master bedroom is spacious. The upgrades and additions, especially the outdoor shower, make for a great rental house. Thanks for the addition of the gas grill on the back deck--we used it often! We stayed 2 weeks this time and had a blast--very glad we returned to this house. Make sure to go zip-lining and kayak the Na Pali Coast with Na Pali Kayak out of Hanalei--great experience! Hanalei Gourmet, Mediterranean Gourmet and Postcards all served us great meals, but we most enjoyed grilling fish (purchased from the fish market behind Hanelei Dolphin) on the back deck and eating outside at our home away from home!
We stay at VRBO all the time, and I actually have never written a review. I feel so strongly that I had to write one about this house.
Amazing location & we loved the outdoor tub and shower! That was great!
1) In every room the mattresses were unbearable. They were so cheaply made and had no support so Judy put some odd pieces of foam on top of them.. My husband, who has no back or neck issues, could not even sleep well and woke up throughout the night with a bad back and neck. I have a lumbar disc issue, and could not sleep on the bed. I ended up spending money and bought an air mattress to survive the trip, because all 3 beds were terrible. It really was an issue. We were in an amazing Kauai-a truly heaven on earth, and a good night sleep on vacation is cherished. It was a serious issue, and Judy should fix that immediately for the next family. There are department stores on the island. She needs to match the bedding to the price and standards of the house.
2) The way this house was constructed is not vented well. We were there in May and the house was so hot. It was not because we were staying in a humid environment-we understood that. We also understand May can be hot. However, we had friends on the island and none of their places soaked the heat like this house. We even had 3 fans and all the ceiling fans going the entire time. It was really hard to stay in the house from 12:00 to 6:00 because of the heat. Our friends on the island said it was the design of the house. They said it was designed poorly and old and that is why their was no air flow in the house.
3) 2 doors over there was major construction going on. Saws, hammering, and drills early in the morning till late afternoon. * Construction may be going through the summer and maybe fall. With a larger house like this, you want to kick back enjoy a book, or sit and enjoy the view, but the noise was loud to say the least.
We paid a good amount to stay at this house for 2 weeks, and we felt that Judy really needs to update the mattresses and ventilation for the price she charges.
**We also did specifically ask if there was going to be any construction going on near the house. (My husband loves to read at the house if he is not swimming & snorkeling). She said there was no construction at the time we signed the lease. So maybe she needs to be more aware of what is going on with the house although she lives in California.
