This is a beautiful, spacious home with an amazing view of Mt. Hood (and the stars on clear nights!). It's a short drive to Hood River, fruit loop stops, wineries, etc. Comfortable beds, plenty of seating, and luxurious amenities including the sauna, hot tub, and awesome steam shower in the master bath. The kitchen is well-stocked and perfect for large groups with plenty of dishes and two dishwashers. We had a wonderful weekend and hope to return.
This was the perfect place for a family get together. There was lots of room for the kids and grand kids. A good place for hiking and biking. The town of Hood River was close by (11 miles) for restaurants and shopping. The photos in the listing were accurate. The house and grounds were clean and well maintained. The only negative was some of the bedding could use freshening.
I used this home as a base for my family (daughter son, son-in-law, sons girl friend, grandchildren, etc.) during my other daughters wedding. It was great. Love the amenities, especially the fresh eggs from the neighbors and the wonderful fruit stands. We used the irrigation ditch walk every night and the grandkids chased frogs. I would recommend this place to anyone.
And I'm 100% serious. If the view alone of Mt. Hood isn't enough to make you stay here, there's the lovely sauna, gorgeous kitchen, hiking path right behind the house and tons of room. I recently stayed here with some friends to celebrate a birthday and it was beyond amazing. We were 15 min. away from Hood River and tons of mountain biking trails. The property owner got back to me super fast and the rental agent was extremely friendly and helpful. If you want to be close enough to Hood River but prefer the country--especially sitting on the deck sipping your coffee or tea while enjoying the view of mountains & stars around you--this is the place to do it! I hope to stay here again in the future.
My business partner and I needed a place to get away and do some planning for the coming year. We wanted to be far enough away from work (Portland) to not get sucked back into the day-to-day, but didn't feel like making a 4-hour drive to Sunriver (first choice). This house ended up being perfect.
Upon arrival, the house was spotless. I saw absolutely no sign that anyone had been there previously. The views of Mt. Hood from the great room and hot tub are incredible.
The house is just over 10 minutes to the east end of Hood River, so we were close enough to hit local restaurants for pretty much every meal. We didn't want to cook, but the kitchen is fantastic for those that do. There's pretty much nothing missing from it other than an espresso machine.
We used the two master bedrooms on the main floor only. It was actually a little bit ridiculous having that big of a house for just the two of us, but both of us are actually pretty picky about decor. Often times, when renting a house, I arrive to find the place loaded with the owner's previous, dated furniture that came from their primary residence when they upgraded. That's not the case with this house. A lot of the furnishings, if not all, were purchased to match the modern style of the house. So it's more like staying in a penthouse suite of a really nice hotel than a rental house.
The radiant floor heating throughout the house is amazing. I do wish it was zoned for each room, rather than combining rooms, because my business partner likes to fidget with thermostats, and this is a set it and forget it type of heat. So it takes a long time for the temp to come down once it gets raised and up to temp.
While we were at the house for 2013 planning, we were also there to relax and clear our heads a bit. The house is perfect for that. I was in the hot tub and sauna at least six times over the two days we were there. I never used the steam shower, but have used them before. Those things are amazing as well.
Food around the area: We went to Egg River Cafe - really good breakfast. Mesquitery - good food, but really strange. They have one of everything on their menu, with most ethnic foods represented, but an almost entirely polish beer list. Truly strange. Double Mountain Brewery - One of my faves. Didn't eat there, just filled a growler for the house.
The house is close to Mt Hood Meadows. It would make a great base camp for mountain activities. Highly Recommend.
