Ximena is a chilean lawyer who lived in Costa Rica for almost 30 years and still lives partially there. She fell in love with Matapalo in the year 1993 and bought her first property then. Osa Marmaris was built between 2008 and 2009. She fulfilled her dream of building the most elegant and luxurious house in the area, without compromising its eco-friendly standards.
Ximena Soler purchased this house in 2009
This property is magnificently located right next to Backwash Bay without loosing its privacy. Even though it is ocean front, it has a 15 meter rise which makes the view breathtaking from every room you are in.
In Osa Marmaris you will have 3 private bungalows, each one with it´s private bathroom and shower. They are all separate from the social area that includes the living room, dinning room, kitchen and extra bedroom. This way you can choose if you want to hang out with your friends and family in the social area or if you want some privacy and quiet in your own room.
I just wanted to send you a quick note regarding our stay at Casa Marmaris earlier this month. We had an awesome time and enjoyed your house tremendously. However, we were even more impressed with the relationship we developed with Isaac, Desiree, and Andreas. They made us feel at home and treated us like a part of their family. They made our trip one to remember. We hope to visit again as soon as possible. Maybe when it is not quite as hot :-). Thanks again, John
I have been to Cabo Matapalo 6 times and have stayed at many lovely places, but Casa Osa Marmaris is my favorite! First of all, let me talk about the people. As you know, that can make all the difference. Ximena is so professional, organized, responsive, and helpful with all of the little details as I was hosting a Wellness Adventures Retreat and there were more details than usual. The caretakers, Isaac and Desiree are the absolute best! They welcome you with Costa Rican hospitality and you truly feel taken care of the entire time. Desiree is an amazing chef and prepared the most delicious, healthy, and fresh Costa Rican dishes that we could have ever asked for. I really enjoyed practicing my Spanish as Desiree was also practicing her English. We communicated perfectly and she always had such a warming friendly smile on her face!
So, let me try to explain and capture the feeling of the house. Imagine beautiful turquoise blue ocean right in front of you, the sounds of the waves crashing, and since the Casa sits up a little higher, AMAZING ocean breezes and rainforest all around you. Listen to the sounds of scarlet macaws, toucans, and howler monkeys, all while doing Yoga or receiving a therapeutic massage under an open air thatch roof gorgeous house with indigenous hardwood floors. We were up for a spectacular sunrise every morning as we just couldn’t bear to miss it and we were greeted by dolphins a couple of times too!
The separate unit concept is brilliant. You can retreat to your own bungalow and have your own space with the same fantastic view, or you can hang out in the main house and lounge in the comfortable furniture. Combine that with the fact that this house is situated right in the middle of one of the most biodiverse places in the world…..paradise! You feel as though you are in a zoo, but you have the privilege of seeing all the animals in their natural habitat. 4 types of monkeys, 3 toed sloths, largest population of scarlet macaws, toucans, hummingbirds, etc. This is where the rainforest comes right up to the ocean, so there will be many times when you are on one of the many deserted beaches, and you will be greeted by scarlet macaws, hawks, and monkeys. It is so stunning that it took a while for the members of my retreat to absorb it all! Experience of a lifetime!!
We want to thank you for this incredible adventure holiday in a spectacular corner of the Osa Peninsula! The villa was perfect--we were three couples so each had our own private space. The place is stunningly beautiful. It met all and more of our hopes. The sound of the rolling ocean, the howling monkeys, the monkeys that made their almost daily treks through the trees on the property. Enchanting!
We were able to take daily hikes -- twice to the St. Louis waterfall. We were in awe of the breathtaking beauty of the nature that surrounded us. Swam in the ocean with few or no others around. One day we hired a guide to take us through Corcovado Park--indescribable.
We would highly recommend this mini-resort with all the amenities (including a chef who made delicious meals)!!
My husband, friends and family have stayed at this property over New Years for the past 5 years. We have spent extensive time in Costa Rica, and the Cabo Matapalo area. This is by far the best property in the area in terms of locations, convenience, finishing, and service. Isaac and Desiree (the on-site property managers) are lovely, and generous. The house is exactly as the photos depict. Pure paradise. Highly recommend staying here.
The home is a welcome retreat: tastefully furnished, spacious, peaceful, and surrounded by large trees and wildlife like coatimundi, scarlet macaws, monkeys, lizards, large tropical birds, etc. We won't forget the day that 30 racoons crossed the back lawn right in front of us. You wake each morning to sounds of Howler monkeys calling from the trees, birds, and the relaxing sounds of nature against the backdrop of crashing waves. You can feed fruits to the visiting Capuchin monkeys in the backyard. You can paddle straight out to Backwash Bay from the properties path down to the bay. And you can go deep-sea fishing along Cabo Matapalo and catch mahimahi, mackerel, tuna, snapper, etc. A fish monger can also sell you fish from his moped each day if you like. There were no mosquitos here - but beware of the noseeums at dawn and dusk on the beaches (their bites itch 100x's more than mosquitos). Our family with young children felt totally safe in the home during the entire stay. Our children played with the caretaker's son most days, as well as with neighborhood children. No one in our family got sick from drinking the tap water, ice or food during our entire stay. One warning is that the power goes out most nights so have your laptops, cell phones charged up before you go to sleep. And lights in the home are dim in the evenings - so plan accordingly. And be aware that there will be some days of cold showers. We appreciated the daily housekeeping which kept things looking neat and tidy. My only suggestion is that the kitchen be stocked with paper towels, salt, and pepper. You can obtain a shopping list for the grocery store in Puerto Jimenez prior to your arrival so that you know what to buy before heading out on the 45-minute drive to Cabo Matapalo (because the road is quite bumpy, you want to stock up on as much food as possible so that you don't need to drive back to PJ too often).
We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay - the booking process was simple and seamless, the home is stunning and even more beautiful than the photos, the surf was awesome for the boys, easy beach access, Desiree and Isaac were wonderful (Isaac even came with us one day on a drive to show us a good snorkeling spot), the housekeeper cleaned the rooms and community space daily and did a great job, the wildlife is spectacular which you see every day on the property grounds, the plunge pool is perfect for cooling off, a couple of waterfall hikes within walking distance, great hiking, Matapalo Lodge bar is walking distance, etc. etc. etc. We're ready to go back!!!
Ours is a collection of friends interested in getting away from it all and enjoying a lot of water time in a spectacular jungle scene; and we could not be more pleased with our stay at Marmaris. The location is incredible right on Backwash Bay; the facility is terrific, tasteful and well laid out, and the staff including Desiret and Isaac was extremely helpful, friendly, responsive and went beyond the call of duty when we needed. Gracias Ximena!
Thanks to its closeness to Corcovado National Park, Matapalo´s exuberant wild life is within reach. You´ll see macaws flying over your head, the 4 types of monkeys that inhabit Costa Rica going through the property or if you go out for a walk.
Located near Matapalo, Corcovado National Park is the largest and only tropical primary lowland rainforest in the world – home to monkeys, dantas and jaguars. National Geographic has called it 'the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity'
Puerto Jimenez. This main town in the Osa Peninsula region is located 45 min by car to Matapalo (it is the closest town available). Puerto Jimenez is one of the gateways to Corcovado National Park, from where many excursions can be arranged, and where supplies can be found. In Puerto Jimenez you´ll find the closest hospital, airport, supermarket and gas station.
Also if you wish to dine out or go for a drink and you have a car, you can go to Lapa Rios Hotel, Bosque del Cabo Hotel, Encanta La Vida Lodge or Martina´s Bar.
