Overview

Asheville House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Come to Knob View Retreat and enjoy a relaxing vacation in this beautiful home with views out every window. The home has 3 bedroom suites, each with private ensuite bath and closet, perfect for the extended family or couples who enjoy vacationing together. Two of the suites have their own private covered porch to enjoy the refreshing mountain air and views and those glorious sunsets.

The house is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains at 2900 feet elevation within a small mountain community containing only 7 houses on 70 acres.

Privacy abounds and so does the wildlife (please don't shoot the turkeys that wander through).

Enjoy a relaxing stay on the porch or drive just 12 miles to downtown Asheville and enjoy shopping and restaurants in the 'Paris of the South'. The town of Black Mountain is just 9 miles in the other direction. Spend a day at the Biltmore Estate (13 miles) or go hiking on any of the miles of trails just minutes away. Want to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway? An entrance is just 10 minutes away.

Our house has beds to accommodate 6 adults or combination of adults and children totaling 6 people. With advance notice we can arrange for a crib or pack and play. No more than 6 people.

The last mile of road to the house is a gravel road which climbs 400 feet in elevation. A 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle is not necessary but would be helpful. Front wheel drive vehicles with a low gear will get you there. Electric and hybrid vehicles with a CVT transmission or other transmissions without a low gear or other low HP vehicles are not advisable.

About Michael White

This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique.

Michael White purchased this house in 2014

Why Michael White chose Asheville

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.

What makes this house unique

Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed this lovely home. It was perfect for our three adult couples because it has three "master suites!" The kitchen was great...we loved the Jenn Air range! The property was quiet, private and restful!

Banjo was a treat for us. He greeted us from each excursion and slept on the porch often.

Another major plus for this property is the inclusion of linens and cleaning. Nothing sinks a vacation faster for me than having to really clean before leaving. Loading the dishwasher was no biggy but I liked not having to launder and mop etc. we kept the house tidy but it was nice just to load up and leave.

Other reviewers have commented on the road...we had no problem at all getting to the property. The directions were helpful. The road was in good condition and we drove up to the house without incident.

The bed in the first floor master is the only thing in need of repair. The mattress sinks in the middle if two people lie down. It is so soft and sinking that it is uncomfortable and causes back aches.

The views from this property are breathtaking! One of our party is finishing his capstone and used the upstairs balcony for progressive pictures.

Thank you for sharing your home with us!!!!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay at Knob View Retreat. The 3 bedroom suites each with private en suite bath is a favorite for couples traveling together. Sorry about the soft mattress. We were made aware of it by some other guests and were in the process of replacing it. The new mattress was delivered yesterday.

Great place to stay near Asheville and Biltmore Estate!

  • 5 of 5

This place was awesome for our couples trip! Very clean, well-maintained, great views and very private. Also just a short drive from downtown Asheville and Biltmore Estate. I have stayed in dozens of VRBO properties and this is the first one I have been compelled to review...IT'S THAT AWESOME!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. This is not your typical vacation rental. It is a luxury retreat with breathtaking views located in a private setting but yet just minutes to all that one wants to do in and around Asheville. Awesome!

Wonderful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a beautiful location for a relaxing weekend away. As all of the other reviewers have mentioned, the view is simply breathtaking! Practically every room in the house has a spacious covered balcony, which allowed us all to enjoy the views while still having a little bit of privacy. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and we had everything we needed and more to cook for the weekend. The bathrooms were my favorite part though, with huge marble soaker tubs. We will definitely be staying here again! I should also mention the proximity to Asheville. It's only about a 20-30 minute drive into downtown Asheville, which was very convenient for doing activities during the day. Thanks again for a wonderful weekend retreat!

Made it to this beautiful home in my Toyota Prius

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate home with spectacular views. I was so grateful to stay at a home with such stunning sights. The layout of the many decks and windows made my visit feel like a serene getaway, yet shops and restaurants are right down the road. I drive a Toyota Prius and did not experience issues with getting to and from this property. Accommodating and responsive owner. Will definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it.

Be more upfront about that driveway

  • 2 of 5

I had asked the owner about the steep driveway and told him that we'd be driving 2WD vehicles. He said there should be no problem so long as you maintained a 10 -15 mph speed ascending it. He neglected to mention the driveway includes a very sharp turn (45 degree angle) at the beginning, and this turn also has to be made at that 10 -15 mph speed or you won't make it up the driveway. I know mountain roads are designed using these switchbacks/cutbacks and this one is tricky in a 2WD car. We had to back down the first time, and as there is no guard rail we came close to going off the road into the ravine. For anyone in a 2WD car I'd say turn off your VSA (vehicle stabilization assist) as it slows down the car b/c the wheels are trying to grip the road, and be aware of that switchback turn. Also, while this home is luxurious and well situated for a quiet getaway and the views are beautiful, once inside we found the living room sofas so worn and sagging in the middle as to be uncomfortable. This was also true of one of the beds, though the bed in the master BR was quite comfortable.

Just Right

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a secluded, quiet, beautiful place to spend a week and that's exactly what we found here. We have rented many times with vrbo and this is one of the nicest, most comfortable homes we've had the pleasure of renting. Amenities are far too many to mention individually - but the Keurig was very much appreciated! Conveniences are just minutes away yet you feel as though there's no one for miles. We hope to visit again and would recommend this home to anyone who is looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. We relaxed more than we ever have. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
