Dramatic views of the coastline near Big Sur and unparalleled privacy are the hallmarks of this light-filled home just off Highway 1, where friends or family can come together to enjoy the peaceful setting and the sound of the surf.
Located between historic Point Sur Lighthouse and iconic Bixby Bridge, and 15 minutes away from the village of Big Sur, the 2 plus-bedroom, 2-1/2-bath house sleeps 8 and is about half an hour south of Carmel. Set into the side of a hill, the home looks out onto the Pacific Ocean from the home’s windows and decks, a spectacular vista that includes Point Sur and River Beach.
The two-story wooden frame house, surrounded by Monterey pine, cypress and wildflowers, has both modern conveniences and a rustic coastal theme. The entryway on the ground floor is flanked by a teak dining table that seats six, where meals can be savored while gazing out on the spectacular ocean views and Point Sur Lighthouse.
The adjacent living room, highlighted by a unique wood-burning fireplace made from rounded gray beach stone, includes a comfortable sofa and two rattan chairs providing space for evenings in front of the fire. An open-beam vaulted ceiling and cedar walls add to the ambiance of the 1,800-square-foot home.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes, oversized towels and beach gear.
In the updated kitchen, conveniences include new stainless steel appliances, counter seating and an iPod player, set off by blue pearl granite countertops and a buffalo stone floor. Near the kitchen is a round game table where two or three can enjoy a game of chess, checkers or other pastimes. Outside the kitchen and running along one side of the house is a large wooden deck with patio seating and a gas grill, just the thing for barbecuing in the evening while the sun sets on the horizon over the Pacific blue.
A den on the other side of the fireplace with large windows and views called the Happy Hour Room has a bonus seating area with a tall table and bar stools, a queen sofa bed, an electric fireplace, and a extensive library of books on travel and local history.
The hallway on the ground floor leads to a TV room with a double sofa bed and across the hall, a half bath. At the end of the hall is a bedroom with a queen bed and private bath, which includes a tiled shower and a large round tub for luxurious soaking. Both the TV room and bedroom have doors leading out onto the first floor deck with amazing ocean views.
A stairway leads to the second floor, which features a master suite with a lounge area with flat-screen HDTV, Blu-Ray player and DVD collection, where both a sofa and a European-style sofa bed provide plenty of room for watching movies.
Completing the picture is the second-floor master bedroom suite, with views of both the mountains and the ocean from numerous windows; pleated shades offer privacy when needed. The master bedroom includes a king bed with memory foam topper, which can be converted to two twins, a flat-screen HDTV and Blu-Ray player. The adjoining bath includes a large tiled shower.
A patio with outdoor seating and a hammock is located off the master suite. This is the perfect place to stargaze, have morning coffee or take an afternoon nap with views of the ocean and Point Sur.

I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
I was very happy with the location.
The vacation rental was spotless.
The property manager was very helpful.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.
We had the most wonderful stay here. The location was remote and quiet - but also a close drive to Carmel/Monterey and the main part of Big Sur. We loved the deck space and all of the living areas, also the wide selection of books to peruse! The light from the lighthouse was spectacular and the service outstanding. Thank you so much!
The nearby Monterey Peninsula is unique in its combination of breathtaking natural resources and a multiplicity of cultural and entertainment possibilities. You can find something for every possible taste. For nature lovers, there is the diversity of mountain and sea, for picnicking, surfing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, beachcombing, bird-watching, kayaking, scuba diving, tidepooling, biking and more. If you want a man-made excitement, we have art galleries galore, excellent fine-art museums, local theater, outstanding restaurants, boutiques, a natural history and a children's museum, a world-class aquarium, and that's just for starters. History buffs will have a field day exploring the adobes of Monterey. There's so much to do that you cannot possibly do it all in one visit, which means you will have to come back!
