Rocking M Ranch is located outside Smithville, with an easy 25- minute drive to the world of antiquing in Warrenton and Round Top. Austin, 'Live Music Capital of the World' is less than an hour away. After an exciting day in the city, wind down at the Rocking M Ranch. Or better yet, just spend the day lying by the pool, or kayaking, canoeing, or fishing in the nearby Colorado River. Finish the day grilling a steak before unwinding in the hot tub or sitting by the campfire under star-lit skies.
While visiting Smithville, who knows who you will run into with major film stars frequenting our quaint, little town? Regardless, we're sure you'll be glad you visited our area and the Rocking M Ranch.
Growing up in Austin when it was just a small city, the countryside was just minutes away. Then came Austin sprawl, and crazy traffic! We purchased the land outside Smithville in 2006, and slowly our little slice of heaven evolved into the Rocking M Ranch. These days the property is shared with visitors from all over, along with 5 lazy cats, 2 dogs, and 3 hens. They let me hang around as long as the food bowls are full!
Cathy Meek purchased this chateau / country house in 2010
The Rocking M Ranch is located just outside the City of Smithville and is in the heart of Central Texas, and three major cities. It is less than 1 hour from Austin, 2 hours from Houston, and 1 1/2 hours from San Antonio.
Guests here enjoy a morning stroll on the property with coffee, or a glass of wine next to the pool while looking out over a backdrop of wildflowers in spring and summer. At night, roast s'mores and relax at the the large firepit adjacent to the screen porch, or grill under the quiet canvas of a million stars overhead.
Cathy was a great host and the property was exactly what we needed. My cycling team needed a place to stay during our 2 day ride and this was just what the Dr ordered. Cathy helped us arrange massages for the team. The hot tub helped with our aching muscles. Cathy gathered eggs from her hens so that we had fresh eggs for breakfast. The property is great. Plenty of room for all of us and far off the beaten path enough to just sit back and relax.
There is a trunk full of VHS tapes upstairs as well as a VHs player. There is a DVD downstairs in the main room and she has DirecTV wired in the house so you can stay connected to the outside world.
Kitchen had plenty of amenities and plenty of space to cook for the 6 in our party.
This vacation rental is perfect for a family vacation. The owner is very personable and professional. Although the duplex adjoins the owners home, they are very respectful of your privacy. The entire place is beautiful and well maintained. We had 4 kids under age 8 that were completely entertained during our entire stay. We ventured into nearby Bastrop and Austin for a day, but honestly the kids just begged to go back and hang out at the house. The atmosphere was very relaxing.
Beautiful home in the country. We swam during the day and enjoyed the hot tub at night. 30 minute drive for great music at the Bugle Boy. Enjoyed a quiche made from fresh eggs provided by hens on the property. Fed crackers to the neighbor's donkeys and goats. Home is beautifully decorated and located near great times in hill country.
If you are looking for a place to get away and just relax, the Rocking M Ranch is the place. We went for a girls' weekend get-away which included our 84 yr. old mother, who enjoyed putting on her swimsuit and relaxing in the hot tub. It was very peaceful. Cathy, the owner is awesome, you never knew if she was next door or not. A good way to start off your morning is with fresh eggs from Cathy's hens, Penny and Lucy. We will definitely go back.
I hate to even say how great this place is, because I want to keep it a secret! Actually it is such a nice place and the owner couldn't be any better. We've stayed each of the last 3 years and had 3 wonderful experiences. There are lots of animals and it's very kid friendly.
I take an annual golf trip with a group of 4 guys. We have stayed in the Smithville/Bastrop area for about 5 years now. From the second we pulled off the road and onto the property we knew this would be our favorite. The house is updated and super clean and has all of the amenities we could want (including the fresh eggs from the chickens that roamed the lawn).
We can't wait to go back during the summer months so that we can take advantage of the great pool.
It is only a few minutes off of Highway 71 and outside of Smithville. While it was close to shops and restaurants, we were able to sit outside each night and enjoy some peace and quiet without ever hearing a neighbor or car.
It was perfect.
