Enter the magical world of Yurts and the High Peaks! Stay in our Ranier Yurt with hiking and snowshoeing right on the property and close access to the adventures and romance of the High Peaks region. Have breakfast gazing at Giant Mountain and then take a short climb to the upper property for views of Elizabethtown and many other peaks. You feel deep in the woods with only the sounds of nature to soothe you yet you're a mile from town. If you have never stayed in a Yurt you will be enchanted with living 'in the round' - windows are all around you and you peer up through the enormous dome to see the treetops, stars and moonlight. The Yurt stays warm and dry in any weather - from 30 below to hurricane winds. Lincoln Pond is 15 minutes away for lake swimming but there is a secret swimming hole right around the corner. Put your kayak in at Lake Champlain in Westport. Hospital, grocery store, drug store are 5 minutes away. Autumn and Winter are gorgeous.
More information on our Adirondack Yurt: The Yurt is heated with a large propane heater which together with the ceiling fan keeps the place warm in even the coldest Adirondack winters. In the summer the dome, french doors and windows open to cool the place down. Although the yurt is fully inspected and equipped with smoke alarms, smoking inside is ABSOLUTELY prohibited and will result in the loss of the security deposit. We have a full compliment of maps and guides for nearby hiking trails and we made a list of our favourite trails. The road up to the Yurt is approx 300' and is dirt but easily accessible with any car in the summer. In the winter a four-wheel vehicle is preferable. Our land is surrounded by 85 acres and we have permission to hike/snowshoe/ski on it. The views are incredible. We will NOT allow any parties that will hunt, snowmobile or drive motorized vehicles on the property. We have satellite TV free of charge and a large collection of movies at the property. There's a great firepit and endless wood for marshmallows.
The surrounding area: The High Peaks area of the Adirondacks is known as one of the most beatiful landscapes on the planet. Elizabethtown is uniquely situated 15 minutes east of Keene Valley and 15 minutes west of Lake Champlain. Hike one day and kayak the next. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Whiteface Mountain are a short drive away. You can easily walk or ride a bike into town for groceries, hardwares or the drug store, pizza, and a great restaurant. In the surrounding villages of Westport, Essex, Keene Valley and Keene you'll find high-end eateries and shops, the famous Mountaineer Outdoor Store, a great gym and bakery, farmers markets, etc. Adventerous souls can take the ferry in Essex across the lake to Burlington, VT. Lincoln Pond is a great state park and only 10 minutes away. There, for a fee, you can spend the day at the beach, boating and swimming.
Other Policies: We are very selective about the friends and 'friends to be' that we allow to rent our Yurt. It is best as a retreat for a couple with children or two close-knit families but no more than six people will feel comfortable here. We require a security deposit before we take your reservation. It will be refunded once the Yurt is inspected after you leave.
It was great staying at the yurt in Elizabethtown this past summer with my husband. It was a quiet, cozy, peaceful getaway. What we loved was having such close proximity to both the amazing hikes of the Adirondacks, and as well as easy access to fun towns. The yurt is in the heart of the High Peaks region and we went on several great day hikes. We loved our day trip to Burlington, including taking the ferry across Lake Champlain, especially at sunset. It's an easy walk into town, and there are amazing views just sitting on the front deck. It's an easy place to hang out, read and relax, as well as to have some wine and cheese while seeing the great mountain views. And the yurt is well-equipped with all the necessities which made it easy and comfortable to stay there. Ahh, a wonderful way to disconnect from the busy life to a simpler life.
very nice yurt, well supplied with basics in kitchen and blanket/towels etc Plenty of sleeping space, TV/sound system , emergency phone in yurt. We had a restful, fairly quiet, stay. Pizza place in town, need to go put of town for more formal dining.
As other reviewers have written, the yurt is very close to town but situated so that you feel as if you're alone in the woods. Staying here, you are close to the spectacular high peaks a short drive to the west (and the wonderful Blueberry Hill Trails within walking distance), and beautiful Lake Champlain -- with a gorgeous view of Vermont's Green Mountains -- a short drive to the east. We enjoyed the hiking and the New England-ish small towns that dot Lake Champlain's east coast, both of which were enhanced by the beauty of fall's colors. Our children loved exploring the property around the yurt, making smores over the fire pit just down the hill from the yurt, playing the assortment of board games available in the yurt, and watching something from among the varied DVDs in the entertainment center. We also took a short trip down to beautiful and historic Fort Ticonderoga at the southern end of Lake Champlain. If you are looking for a relaxing time away in a gorgeous setting, this yurt is for you!
In nature, quiet and cozy place; the yurt experience is exceptional. The place is very clean and well maintained. We felt welcome at the first minute we entered the place, like if you are coming to visit friends. The generosity of the owner is also outstanding; good customer service, explanation and clear information on about everything. The hiking paths are very close, and easy to access. I will certainly, without a doubt, recommend this place to anyone that loves nature. I definitely want to come back!
What an awesome place to stay! We loved the idea of staying in a real yurt, and our experience only enhanced our expectations. The structure itself is really cool. We were a little apprehensive about the extreme cold we've been experiencing this winter, but the yurt was really efficient and very cozy. The location of this yurt is perfection. It is really close to town, but once on the property you'd never know that civilization was nearby. The property has a few really neat look outs to hike or snowshoe up to. We brought our dogs and they loved the experience just as much as we did. Overall, it was a lot of fun and a perfect way to ring in the new year! Thanks for a great place to stay and relax.
My family and I spent Christmas in the yurt. It was magical! The yurt is cozy and warm (and Elizabethtown was below freezing when we were there) and has plenty of space for three adults. The kitchen had plenty of room and we had everything we needed to cook our full Christmas dinner. We even put up a Christmas tree. We spent one day skiing at Whiteface mountain, one day exploring Lake Placid nearby, and the other exploring the woods around the yurt and doing some sledding. Food shopping is really close by in the Elizabethtown center.
The only issues were we had a hard time getting up the driveway due to snow/ice and the bathroom sink had a slight leak. But besides those things, our stay was perfect. We definitely recommend staying here!
We originally had to pick up our daughter in Potsdam where she was going to school and decided to make a little get away from the trip. I contacted Doug, who was phenomenal to work with and responded to every question almost immediately. His service and instructions made for a problem free stay.
I am somewhat familiar with yurts but never stayed overnight in one. It seems they possess a certain magic about them perhaps due to the circular shape and design. All this added to a spectacular weekend that helped my family reconnect after being separated for a few months.
I highly recommend staying here. The trails outside the door were super convenient not to mention the proximity to lake placid and Burlington. I am really looking forward to a stay in the winter which I am sure would be wonderful.
Enter the adventure of the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. Nearby hiking trails are the finest in the East. Lake Champlain is 15 minutes away. Whiteface Mountain in 30 minutes away. Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are easy drives. Take a ferry to Vermont or a bobsled run at the Olympic Center! Great shops, restaurants, pubs, antique stores can be found in Keene Valley, Westport, Elizabethtown, and Essex.
Other Activities: bobsled, skating, rock climbing
