Enter the magical world of Yurts and the High Peaks! Stay in our brand new Ranier Yurt with hiking and snowshoeing right on the property and close access to the adventures and romance of the High Peaks region. Have breakfast gazing at Giant Mountain and then take a short climb to the upper property for views of Elizabethtown and many other peaks. You feel deep in the woods with only the sounds of nature to soothe you yet you're a mile from town. If you have never stayed in a Yurt you will be enchanted with living 'in the round' - windows are all around you and you peer up through the enormous dome to see the treetops, stars and moonlight. The Yurt stays warm and dry in any weather - from 30 below to hurricane winds. Lincoln Pond is 15 minutes away for lake swimming but there is a secret swimming hole right around the corner. Put your kayak in at Lake Champlain in Westport. Hospital, grocery store, drug store are 5 minutes away. Autumn and Winter are gorgeous.

More information on our Adirondack Yurt: The Yurt is heated with a large propane heater which together with the ceiling fan keeps the place warm in even the coldest Adirondack winters. In the summer the dome, french doors and windows open to cool the place down. Although the yurt is full inspected and equipped with smoke alarms, smoking inside is ABSOLUTELY prohibited and will result in the loss of the security deposit. We have a full compliment of maps and guides for nearby hiking trails and we made a list of our favourite trails. The road up to the Yurt is approx 300' and is dirt but easily accessible with any car in the summer. In the winter a four-wheel vehicle is preferable. Our land is surrounded by 85 acres and we have permission to hike/snowshoe/ski on it. The views are incredible. We will NOT allow any parties that will hunt, snowmobile or drive motorized vehicles on the property. We now have satellite TV free of charge and please bring your own DVD's - we do not have a large collection at the property. There's a great firepit and endless wood for marshmallows.

The surrounding area: The High Peaks area of the Adirondacks is known as one of the most beatiful landscapes on the planet. Elizabethtown is uniquely situated 15 minutes east of Keene Valley and 15 minutes west of Lake Champlain. Hike one day and kayak the next. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Whiteface Mountain are a short drive away. You can easily walk or ride a bike into town for groceries, hardwares or the drug store, pizza, and a great restaurant. In the surrounding villages of Westport, Essex, Keene Valley and Keene you'll find high-end eateries and shops, the famous Mountaineer Outdoor Store, a great gym and bakery, farmers markets, etc. Adventerous souls can take the ferry in Essex across the lake to Burlington, VT. Lincoln Pond is a great state park and only 10 minutes away. There, for a fee, you can spend the day at the beach, boating and swimming.

Other Policies: We are very selective about the friends and 'friends to be' that we allow to rent our Yurt. It is best as a retreat for a couple with children or two close-knit families but no more than six people will feel comfortable here. We require a security deposit before we take your reservation. It will be refunded once the Yurt is inspected after you leave.

a beautiful place out in the country

A couple friends and I recently rented this yurt in the hopes of finding a quiet and peaceful environment to record music in. We all loved our stay- the yurt is very cozy (though not small, it housed 4 people quite nicely), removed from (but still within easy reach of) town, and is in an absolutely beautiful location. It was really the perfect place for us to get away, write music, and forge a deeper connection to the environment. I highly recommend this yurt to anyone seeking a gorgeous and relaxing place to stay. Doug (the owner) was great about responding to any questions that I had, asked a very reasonable price, and was very hospitable.

Whenever you rent a property online there is a bit of leap of faith involved. We weren't sure how staying in a yurt would work for our family of four...but we were delighted to discover that we loved it! This was the perfect place to come back to at the end of our hiking days. We felt like we were home. The yurt is spacious and airy with everything you could need on vacation. It became a very special place to us. The circular interior created a perfect family bonding environment. The near by "swimming hole" in the river is heavenly. And the hiking in the mountains you see from your vista on the deck is spectacular. We will and already have recommended our new home away from home to friends and family.

The yurt in Elizabethtown provided an excellent base for 4 days of R and R in Keene, Essex and E'town with a spectacular view of Giant Mountain, and other Adirondack high peaks.

Four of us met to celebrate a milestone birthday and enjoyed the fantastic kitchen and comfortable beds, the view from the deck, entertainment system, and the uniqueness of the structure. The owners have done it right with this privately sited structure close to swimming, Essex and the great Dogwood bakery/pizzeria (a must visit that we almost missed--great local and organic foods, a good selection of frozen/prepared foods, wonderful breads and pizza).

We spent one day touring Keene's river and shops (the taxidermy shop and rustic furniture store--kind of felt like we were at a museum!), another in Westport and Essex, and another hiking the property and dipping in the local swimming hole in nearby Boquet River.

The owner was very responsive via email and phone, and we were able to easily make arrangements for our visit. Will definitely consider returning in other seasons, and recommend the property to anyone interested in combining a little day touring with cooking in, reading/relaxing and some invigorating Adirondack air.

Our Time at the Yurt

Submitted: April 24, 2012 Stayed: August 2011
It was great staying at the yurt in Elizabethtown this past summer with my husband. It was a quiet, cozy, peaceful getaway. What we loved was having such close proximity to both the amazing hikes of the Adirondacks, and as well as easy access to fun towns. The yurt is in the heart of the High Peaks region and we went on several great day hikes. We loved our day trip to Burlington, including taking the ferry across Lake Champlain, especially at sunset. It's an easy walk into town, and there are amazing views just sitting on the front deck. It's an easy place to hang out, read and relax, as well as to have some wine and cheese while seeing the great mountain views. And the yurt is well-equipped with all the necessities which made it easy and comfortable to stay there. Ahh, a wonderful way to disconnect from the busy life to a simpler life.
