queen-sized bed in 'bedroom area'. Living area amenities include a small gas fireplace, wing-backed chair, rocker, and Queen sleeper-sofa . Table and chairs for family dining and playing games are provided. Apartment has TV / DVD player with cable, and stereo/CD player . A Full kitchen (no dishwasher) has high and low bar to provide conversational seating - great when groups gather to prepare special meals! Full-sized refrigerator and stove, microwave and coffee-maker provided. Dishes, pots and pans and basic staples are provided for your use. Yes, there is a lobster pot!!

Private deck overlooks the Harbor View House gardens, Belfast harbor and Penobscot Bay beyond. Enjoy lovely (early!) sunrises and 'reverse sunsets' (ask us!) while relaxing at the small table and chairs on deck . It is an easy walk to downtown Belfast's unique shops and galleries and an easy drive to many Maine sights.

In the Area: Belfast is located in the heart of mid-coast Maine, making it accessible to most of the sites of Maine.

-Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are about a on1-1/2 hour drive - explore the park or go whale watching

-Freeport's shopping outlets (and L.L.Bean!) is about 1-1/4 hour drive

-Moose Point State Park is 4 miles away - an easy way to enjoy Maine's coastal beauty

-The beautiful new Maine Botanical Gardens and Boothbay Harbor are about 1-1/2 hours away

-Swan Lake, Lake Megunticook and Lake Saint George are all about a 30-minute drive (different directions to each!)

-Boats to Monhegan Island leave from Port Clyde about 1 hour drive

Belfast - the Arty Side: Belfast has a wonderful arts community. Local Galleries offer Art Walks every Friday night during the summer and galleries abound less than three blocks from the apartment. Local Pottery and hand made items are available in town or a short drive away. The local Masker's theater presents plays year-round and summer offerings are performed under the stars at the Belfast Commons. The local movie theater presents all the blockbusters as well as the smaller independent and art films.

The Local Foods: One of the best Lobster Pounds is right in our own Belfast - Young's (you can see it from the deck). Eat over there on their deck or bring fresh or freshly-steamed lobsters home to enjoy on your own deck. The local Farmer's Market is open every Friday morning, offering the best local, organic foods in the area. Belfast offers great local restaurants, from the traditional diners and seafood restaurant, to the eclectic Darby's, and local Thai and Italian restaurants. Our local Chase's offers vegetarian dining at it's BEST every Friday night (book ahead).

About Trish or Mary Ellen

Trish, Mary Ellen and Ron have been innkeepers at Harbor View House of 1807 Bed and Breakfast since 2000. Because of family illness, we cannot run this beautiful home as a bed and breakfast. But the pleasure of meeting and sharing with our guests has led us to open up the house for guests who require longer stays or more room for a family. Moving to Maine from San Francisco, California has been a wonderful change of place. Innkeeping has been a wonderful change of pace!

Trish or Mary Ellen purchased this apartment in 2000
Why Trish or Mary Ellen chose Belfast

Mid-coast Maine offers the unique opportunity of being equally accessible to many of the state's favorite spots. Whether sailing or hiking in Acadia National Park is your goal, or antiquing and shopping at the famous L.L. Bean and outlets of Freeport is more your style, each is equally achievable from Belfast. Best of all, Belfast itself is a unique community that offers art, theater, and beautiful nature options (hiking trails less than a quarter mile away) - all without the kitsch and hustle-bustle of some other Maine locations. Summer's Friday night Art Walks open the galleries to all - with food and music as well! Moose Point State park, less than 4 miles away, provides a delightful local nature scene! Swim at nearby Swan Lake ('where the sane people go to swim!').

Great House and Location

My Texas friends and family had such a pleasant, cool stay at Harbor View. It is everything the owners said and more. The photos were accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. I would recommend it to anyone, but I hate to rave to much because I don't want it to be booked when I want to go again, which I will next summer.Belfast is a perfect example of Maine living, eating, shopping, and seeing cultural activities.Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful house with us. This was our third visit to the Harbor View House. It's like coming home. Mary Ellen and Trish are so friendly and give the very best care to their guests. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in the area. How can you beat perfection. My husband and I have stayed in three different rooms. Our favorite is the Joshua Chamberlain room. It's so cozy and comfortable. Can't wait to go back again. We really are not related to them, but wish we were.

We arrived as strangers to Belfast and Harbor View House, but after meeting Mary Ellen and Trish we felt we were leaving as friends.. They were friendly, helpful and informative with a great sense of humour. All this without being intrusive. The rooms are very stylish and comfortable and furnished in keeping with the history of the house. There is a library of information, travel books etc. plus a large selection of VCR tapes for the use of guests. The house is in a quiet location within easy walking distance to the centre, and has a great view from the outside deck.

The town of Belfast has a comfortable, slightly old-fashioned feel to it. Within walking distance, there are several restaurants and bars serving a range of food. The local boat trip is well worth taking with good chances to see porpoise and harbour seals.

What a great place! As is reviewed by other people Mary Ellen and Trish are exceptional hostesses. We have stayed with them about five times and now feel part of the family. This time was my husband's birrthday. Previously on my birthday they gave me a gift and a card when we were there in July. My husband also received a lovely gift and card. They also had special candle on the breakfast plate on his birthday and we all sang happy birthday. Then they made a special cake for the afternoon tea. There were so many things they do which are so very special. As other guests have mentioned the beds are so comfortable and the rooms decorated beautifully so we love to be spoiled as often as we can.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone. In fact we had friends stay there this time and they also raved about the stay!
