Super Getaway

My friend and I were very impressed that Lisa came to the door immediately
to see if we needed help with anything and then proceeded to build a fire!
The cabin is cozy, updated, and with comfortable beds and lots of hot water
in the shower (or bath). The location is great and it's convenient to have the
Rocky Point Restaurant minutes away if one desires. Easy driving to Carmel
or south to the lovely beaches. Highly recommend staying here.

Loved all of it but the quaint door latch in the bathroom keep hitting our guests in the back. I think it should be replaced. Also, time for some new dvd's.

Owner's Response: Richard and his guests were very lovely and glad they enjoyed their stay. He is actually from Monterey and would like to return next year :) The cabin was constructed in the early 1900's. The door latch in the bathroom, is something many of our guests enjoy of early settlement construction. So, it will not be replaced...you just need to keep the bathroom door fully open, or shut. We have a variety of over 60 movies, in the main cabin. Catering to young children and older generations. We are always buying new. But you are more then willing to bring your own, if you have something special in mind. We do have a dvd player to use. See you next year!

My husband and I stayed in the small cabin for two nights and it was perfect. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook simple meals and Lisa was extremely kind - she even gave us coffee, tea and milk for the morning since we had forgotten our own. She also pointed us toward what was our favorite hike of the trip, at the end of the road and with the most amazing views of the mountains and sea. We would love to return and bring friends to stay in the big cabin! It is also nice that she allows folks to clean and get the deposit back (something we took advantage of and it didn't take much). Thanks Lisa!

Monthiversary retreat

I took my girlfriend to the loft cabin as a surprise, she was thrilled to find out that we would a weekend "unplugged" from the day-to-day life.

We ate in nearby Carmel on Friday night and were treated to a VIP table on the house, it was quite a way to start off the weekend.

We were welcomed by a fireplace ready to be lit and a very clean cabin. The instructions in the cabin about cleanup were very thorough and clear. Our first night was filled with rain (right on schedule from the weather report) and it was an amazing to lay under the skylights as the water poured down the rooftop.

The next day was filled with cooking in the cabin. Let me put this clearly, this cabin has everything you need, even a crock pot! We were shocked at the amount of amenities. Microwave, cooking utensils, pots, pans, oven, cooking boards, and much more. As our food cooked we watched a few of the movies provided and also were able to take get recipes for dinner from the provided Wi-Fi Internet which was pretty fast considering how far into the woods this place is.

The owner greeted us in the morning with a newspaper and also with open arms with anything we needed. Everything was perfect, however, knowing she was there was a plus.

We took a drive out along the coast and visited McCoy falls during the afternoon. There were many sights to be seen, and not too crowded either considering the time of year.

If you're looking for a quite place to get away from it all I highly recommend this cabin. The loft is small, but perfect for 2 people. It is filled with everything you need for a comfortable stay at a price that cannot be beaten for what it has.

GAVROOOM

We have stayed at another cabin further up Palo Colorado road before and a couple times in downtown Carmel by the Sea. In my opinion this 100 year old cabin nestled beneath ancient Red Woods next to a small creek captures the essence of Big Sur and the atmosphere that drew such Mystical? Spiritual? Weird? artisans such as Henry Miller, Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Kerouac.

We loved the real wood burning stove, the large well equipped kitchen and the ambiance of the lovingly restored cabin. And while one of the reasons we go to Big Sur is to get “off the grid” for awhile the Wi-Fi worked flawlessly, affording us the luxury of periodically plugging in to work email or utilizing maps and local guides on the iPhone.

Of course the cabin is “Dog Friendly”, as is all of Carmel. In fact “Dog Crazy” is more like it. The beach at Carmel by the Sea is the best “dog beach” we’ve ever been to and every merchant and restaurant in town is over the top “Dog Friendly.” Garrapata beach is a very short drive from the cabin and also is always on our Big Sur “To Do Nothing” list.

We’ll be back.
