Come discover Amelia Island, Florida! With its rich history, undeniable charm and breathtaking views, Amelia is like a storybook come to life. With a population of just 11,000 people, and only accessible by bridge, Amelia holds a cherished, small-town feel. Its historic streets and homes are nestled between the live oaks and Atlantic dunes, where it seems time simply passed them by. Many people say time moves slower here and that the rest of the world stops at the island’s edges.
Amelia is a beautiful barrier island off the coast of northeast Florida, a mere 30 minute drive from Jacksonville International Airport. Thirteen miles long and four miles wide at its widest point, Amelia Island is home to festivals, tournaments, abundant and diverse wildlife and a rich and colorful history.
Our home is centrally located in Summer Beach on the south end of the island, and close to fabulous beaches, seven golf courses, spas and the historic town of Fernandina Beach, which offers great restaurants and shopping. With carriage rides, homemade ice cream and confectionary shops, antiques and elegant island dining, Amelia makes an idyllic place where couples and families can relax and share quality time together.
Our luxurious, Mediterranean style courtyard home is located in The Preserve, a gated Summer Beach Resort property, that provides a secure environment with peace of mind upon entering. With almost 3,000 square feet of living space, there is plenty of room to spread out. On the main level there are three separate bedrooms, each with television, and each with a private full bath. Upstairs is a large bonus room with another queen bed, full bath and office area. You will enjoy a private pool/spa on the lanai, complete with outdoor shower. We are a short walk to the beach, the magnificent Preserve pool complex, and The Golf Club of Amelia Island and the Ritz Carlton. 5 bikes are included.
The Golf Club of Amelia Island was long one of Florida's best-kept secrets, but the secret is now out. Designed by Mark McCumber and Gene Littler, the course presents players with the ultimate in pure golfing pleasure. Taking full advantage of the wide varieties of natural terrain, the course winds through the natural beauty of Amelia Island, offering views that are both spectacular and charming. A complete range of amenities and services is available. The pro shop is well stocked with the latest apparel, equipment and accessories for both the beginner and the most experienced golfer, and the excellent staff of golf professionals is always ready to help our guests improve their game. The Club offers daily, weekly and bi-weekly lessons and clinics, and the driving range is open daily for your use. And if, by chance, you forget your clubs, the pro shop offers top-of-the-line rentals in both right- and left-handed sets.
The Beach & Tennis Club. Our members-only Beach & Tennis Club is centrally located in Summer Beach Village, at the western peak of the dune line overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Bordered by the ocean and surrounded by lush tropical Florida foliage, the Beach Club Pool, Snack Bar and Tiki Bar offer our guests a chance to mingle and dine casually. Also available are two lighted tennis courts. Other amenities include umbrella & chair rentals, bicycle rentals, therapeutic massages, babysitting services and more.
Every year, Amelia Island hosts the Concours d’Elegance, one of the nation's most unique vintage auto events, featuring more than 250 rare classics from seldom-seen private collections nationwide. For almost 30 years, the premier Bausch & Lomb Championships, an elite women’s tennis tournament, was held on the Island, featuring such elite players as Maria Sharapova, Nadia Petrova and Venus Williams.
The Annual Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is held the first weekend in May of every year. Sample all the varieties of shrimp prepared at the many booths assembled along the water of downtown Fernandina Beach and enjoy the many arts and crafts that reflect the seafaring historic ambience of ages gone by.
Ecotourism. The island’s wildlife is also another draw for people from around the country and the globe. With guided nature tours, hiking, bird watching and possible sightings of dolphins, sea turtles and wild horses, the state parks and nearby islands offer exceptional outdoor excursions. There is even the option to hunt for giant, prehistoric megalodon shark’s teeth, since the area has one of the highest concentrations anywhere. For outdoor enthusiasts, Amelia Island boasts a stunning array of outdoor activities to include surfing, kayaking on the Amelia Island River, scenic boat tours to see the wild horses on Cumberland Island, deep sea fishing, cycling, horseback riding on the beach and more.
The 'Isle of Eight Flags.' Since 1562, the flags of France, Spain, Great Britain, Spain (again), the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America and the United States have all flown over this lovely island. At Fort Clinch State Park, visitors can see a Civil War fort that overlooks Cumberland Sound. The fort features live reenactments, such as powder artillery demonstrations and marching drills, the first weekend of every month and holds occasional candlelight tours of the premises.
Downtown Fernandina Beach features 40 blocks of historic businesses and homes featuring antiques, home décor, clothing and jewelry, bookshops, restaurants, gift shops and various seaside items. And just north of this district lie some of Florida’s most elegant Victorian homes and gardens, which are key to the island’s time-capsule-like feel. Ever see the film “Pippi Longstocking”? It was filmed here on the island and you can see Pippi’s house even today.
