Let me introduce myself, I am Alfreda McDonald but I prefer Eva my husband Robby, and I live in California on the coast between Monterey and Santa Cruz. In 2014 we took our 401K to Hawaii and purchased our beautiful home in a extraordinary location. We have enjoyed renting our lovely Hawaiian home for many years, and would be most delighted to have you and your family enjoy our wonderful House of Love by the Sea.
Alfreda McDonald purchased this house in 2004
I fell in love with the home in 2004 the location is unbelievably beautiful and the ocean can be seen from all rooms on the property. Our home is easy to get to from the Hilo International Airport and I can get our supplies and get home in 20 minutes after a tiring flight. The home is our retirement home which we are enjoying renting to travelers like yourself. Aloha.
This beautiful property and its many amenities can't be beat. It's the ideal locale for large family gatherings in a safe, neighborhood setting close to shopping, restaurants and all kinds of recreation.
This is a beautiful property tucked away just north of Hilo. It is quiet and cleanly maintained and the hosts are friendly and helpful. We had 7 of us staying and there was still plenty of room for more! Great kitchen with all the needed amenities, clean pool, plenty of towels and extras for the beach. The best part was sitting on the deck in the early evening watching for dolphins and whales - we saw both!!!!! If you want serenity and to fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the cliffs this is the place for you!!! Thanks you Alfreda and Robert.
The vacation home was GREAT!!! Awesome firework show by the people around the area.... My family enjoyed the fishing almost brought in the "BIG" one... The pool was a perfect size for my children to enjoy and so was the house.... I will be sure to save up and hopefully get the chance to enjoy Hale O' Kealoha Ala Kai again. Thank You!!!!
We spent 3 nights here with my family of 5. The home is conveniently located between Volcanoes and Hilo. We spent a day at Volcanoes National Park and a day seeing all the waterfalls in Hilo. The home is very spacious and comfortable. The view is spectacular and waves crash all night long.
My girlfriend and I are in our late 20's and were just looking for a place to rest our heads as we explored the Hilo side of the island. We booked this rental with that in mind, not planning on spending much time there after reading the many reviews from older couples saying how perfect it was for them (nothing from young occupants). Once we arrived and dropped our stuff down, we found ourselves cancelling plans so we could spend more time at the house! The view out of the back porch is nothing short of stunning - breathtaking even. Crystallized lava starts at the back patio and ends at a cliff-like dropoff into the open ocean no more than 25 yards from the house. The master bedroom has giant sliding glass doors that look directly out onto this gorgeous view, we left them open to hear the hypnotic sound of waves crashing as we fell asleep/woke up (highly suggested). The sun rises on this side of the island so wake up early to catch it or be prepared to wake up early with all the light shining in. We ended up cooking both nights we were there having picked up food from a local grocery no more than 10 or so miles away. We made use of the great back patio / grill setup to make it happen. The kitchen also had all of the pots/pans/utensils necessary which was nice to find. Inside the house everything was in great condition and looks more or less exactly like the pictures on the listing. There are 4 or 5 total bedrooms, and though we only used 1 we vowed to try and come back at some point with a group of friends as it would be the perfect location/setup for a couples retreat (or group getaway in general). As you can tell from the post I couldn't recommend this place more highly, our stay was picture perfect. Icing on the cake is that Alfreda (the owner) is a pleasure to work with along the way.
I forget to mention you can fish from your back door right off of the edge.we saw locals doing it and saw more fish caught there then we saw or got on our charter out of Kona area.
It took my son in law all of 5 minutes to get in the pool. the View from the kitchen is as her picture show only better. It is lava all the way to the ocean, but when it was a little windy the ocean would spray over the top of wall of lava. It was very comfortable for our party of 11 with 3 singles and all had their own bed and still had another bed available. As a family we all enjoyed it. I was up every morning by 5 am and it is beautiful One morning I got up at 4 am and took a cup of coffee outside and watched the moon rise just before the sun. It was awesome.and the stars! I was surprised by the shower in the master bath It must be 7'x9' you could tango in their.this turned out to be our most comfortable stay in the Islands. Kitchen was large enough for 3-5 people to work. this is a large home. thank you P.S. don't buy a Jack Fruit they saw me coming
