Charming cottage on very private and expansive waterfront property with beautiful sandy beach. Crystal clear water of Shinnecock Bay is perfect for swimming and kayaking (Kayak is provided for your use). One mile walk or bike to ocean (Dune Road & Ponquogue Beach). Quaint breakfast and lunch country cafe is short walking distance. 5 Minutes to Long Island Railroad and Hampton Bays village. Waterfront restaurants close by (Dune Road). Wineries about 6 miles away and a must see.
This was our 5th year back at the cottage. We thoroughly love it. We take a short walk to the beach, use the Kyack and enjoy everything about the place. Great restaurants nearby and a teriffic breakfast place (Green Door) about 1/4 mile. You won't be dissapointed. Adele
We just got back from our stay at Mary's cottage. The location is lovely. The cottage is down a romantic lane with beautiful flowers along the side. There is a bay side beach that is just a two minute walk from the cottage and then there is a most beautiful beach just a short drive from the house. The house is cozy and nicely done. We really enjoyed our stay there. The restaurants in the area are wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place.
What a great Cottage, peace and quiet. The Beach is steps away, minutes from town, twenty mins from Southampton Village. The addition of deck and awning is great. Had breakfast outside every morning. My daughters loved the upstairs Bedroom. Would definitely go back next summer. The only negative was waking up to Birds singing. LOL
We stayed in this lovely small house for a week. It was really close to the bay and the beach area was very nice. The crickets was playing every evening but otherwise it was totally peaceful. Mary - the owner - was also living next door and was always friendly and helpful. The area was really nice and the breakfast place 100 yards had the best waffles. :) Perfect stay for a couple how want to enjoy a couple of peaceful nights. Our warmest recommendations. This was our first trip to the Hamptons and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The area is beautiful, and not at all touristy, which we liked. My 14 year old son has autism so I always worry about him crossing the street to get to the beach. That is not a problem here since the beach is directly accessible to the property. There were 3 kayaks on the property, a two person kayak and two single ones. We used the kayaks every day to explore the area. There is a sandbar about a half mile across the bay where you can dig for clams (which we did) or just enjoy the soft sand. The beach by the house is rocky, so water shoes on that beach were a must.
The kitchenette in the cabin is small and not really a place to cook a meal. We were prepared and used the gas grill (brand new Weber) provided every day for lunch and dinner. We also brought our own nonstick pan to cook breakfast since there was only one small saucepan to be found in the kitchenette. We brought a cooler with us which helped, since there isn't a lot of refrigerator space, and almost no freezer space. We bought ice every other day to keep our perishables cold. There isn't any dining space, so the table outside was good (lots of biting bugs when the sun goes down so be prepared). We ate out only a few times. For pizza try Francesca's. It is some of the best pizza I have ever had. Also, we got fresh seafood for our grill from Cor-J Seafood on Lighthouse Rd. Amazing selection of fresh, fresh fish.
Also, there is an air conditioner in the upstairs bedroom which, though small, cools the sleeping area nicely since it gets very hot upstairs. We kept the upstairs window cracked which let some of the heat escape during the day. Most days, with the breeze, keeping the windows open was all that was needed to keep the cottage cool.
There is a retractable awning on the front of the cabin which is not in the photos so it may be newly installed. With the continuous breeze and the shade provided by the awning, we enjoyed sitting outside while cooking and after coming back from the beach.
This is a great setting for getting away from everything. We turned on the television only one time during our seven days at the cottage. Also, there is no internet, so this is truly a way to get away from everything.
We had a great time at the cottage. The space was perfect for our family. Very private with your own private beach at the bay. Perfect for small children. We spent every day in the bay - swimming and catching fish and crabs. The kids loved it. Mary was a gracious host. Thanks for a great time. Check out the Green Door Cafe too. Short walk from the house and has a great breakfast.
This place is great. It has easy access to the bay/beach - an easy walk down and very private setting. The cottage is just minutes away from the fish market and the produce stand. We had a great time - the cottage had everything you need and Mary was very helpful and a gracious host.
