Quiet setting with lots of charm
This was our first trip to the Hamptons and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The area is beautiful, and not at all touristy, which we liked. My 14 year old son has autism so I always worry about him crossing the street to get to the beach. That is not a problem here since the beach is directly accessible to the property. There were 3 kayaks on the property, a two person kayak and two single ones. We used the kayaks every day to explore the area. There is a sandbar about a half mile across the bay where you can dig for clams (which we did) or just enjoy the soft sand. The beach by the house is rocky, so water shoes on that beach were a must.
The kitchenette in the cabin is small and not really a place to cook a meal. We were prepared and used the gas grill (brand new Weber) provided every day for lunch and dinner. We also brought our own nonstick pan to cook breakfast since there was only one small saucepan to be found in the kitchenette. We brought a cooler with us which helped, since there isn't a lot of refrigerator space, and almost no freezer space. We bought ice every other day to keep our perishables cold. There isn't any dining space, so the table outside was good (lots of biting bugs when the sun goes down so be prepared). We ate out only a few times. For pizza try Francesca's. It is some of the best pizza I have ever had. Also, we got fresh seafood for our grill from Cor-J Seafood on Lighthouse Rd. Amazing selection of fresh, fresh fish.
Also, there is an air conditioner in the upstairs bedroom which, though small, cools the sleeping area nicely since it gets very hot upstairs. We kept the upstairs window cracked which let some of the heat escape during the day. Most days, with the breeze, keeping the windows open was all that was needed to keep the cottage cool.
There is a retractable awning on the front of the cabin which is not in the photos so it may be newly installed. With the continuous breeze and the shade provided by the awning, we enjoyed sitting outside while cooking and after coming back from the beach.
This is a great setting for getting away from everything. We turned on the television only one time during our seven days at the cottage. Also, there is no internet, so this is truly a way to get away from everything.
