ABOUT THE AREA
One of Istanbul's most desired and most international districts, Cihangir, offers truly modern and cosmopolitan living. With its exquisite restaurants, cozy cafés, green grocers, butchers, all within walking distance to the apartment, this area will let you truly enjoy a small neighborhood living. Akarsu and Susam streets, perhaps the best known and most popular streets of Cihangir are dotted with cafes which offer Turkish and international cuisine. Almost everyone speak enough English, so you don’t have to worry about mastering Turkish during your stay.
Taksim Square and Istiklal Caddesi , with their boutiques, shops, cafes, restaurants, nightlife and more, is only a few minutes of walk away. In Taksim, you can take a metro, or hop on a dolmuş (a shared cab ride) to many other exciting districts of Istanbul. Just up the road from Taksim Square is the Military Museum. Please check for their hours of operation in advance. In addition to numerous interesting military artifacts on display, catching the performance of the Mehter Takımı (military marching band, conceived by the Ottomans) will enhance your overall experience.
The water front, too, is a short stroll down the hill, where you can enjoy the latest exhibits at the Istanbul Modern (museum of modern art), Museum of Paintings and Sculptures or at the Tophane-i Amire Cultural Center. Nargile (water pipe) shops, Tophane Cesmesi, (a fountain built in 1732) and the Kılıç Ali Paşa Camii (a mosque built by Architect Sinan in 1580) are definitely worth a visit. For a fantastic Turkish bath experience, you may want to visit also, Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı, located in an adjacent structure. Also available at the bottom of the hill is a tram line that will conveniently take you to the heart of the Historic Peninsula, with its famous churches, mosques and palaces, or further up, to the Grand Bazaar. If you continue walking north along the Meclis-I Mebusan street (the busy road with the tram tracks), you can enjoy a çay (Turkish tea) and a simit (Turkish sesame bagel) in one of the inexpensive cafes dotting the waterfront, just a few hundred meters up.
Nothing replaces a nice stroll along the Bosphorus, walking north, and perhaps taking a ferry at the Kabataş pier to visit the Princes’ Islands. Just up the road, along the water front, you may find yourself in the gardens of glamorous Dolmabahçe Palace, executed in the neo-baroque and Ottoman styles, which is well worth seeing. You will also notice the ornate Dolmabahçe mosque and the magnificent clock tower, all built towards the end of the 19th century. Behind you, at the banks of the hill, you will see the new Beşiktaş football stadium in construction. If you trust your legs and walk another 15-20 minutes in the same direction, Collections of National Palaces, with its display of palace life, and another 100 meters up, the newly built Naval Museum, with its impressive array of imperial caiques, belonging to the late sultans, will keep you entertained for a better part of a day.

I am a Turkish born electrical engineer and medical device executive, married to an American woman, temporarily relocated back to California. I called Turkey home for the first 22 years of my life and recently returned to live in Istanbul. We lived in this flat for over 3 years. It was a very comfortable home and a home office for me and my wife, as we work as international medical device consultants. Our apartment is located in the cosmopolitan and international district of Cihangir, where not speaking Turkish did not create a problem for my wife, as pretty much anyone speaks English here. The neighborhood is charming and modern. It allowed us to enjoy Istanbul to its full potential while we could also work. The apartment is close to all public transportation, metro, tram, ferry, and there is an abundance of taxicabs, which are relatively inexpensive to hire. We rarely needed to drive our car, despite having the luxury of having a secure covered garage at the lower level of the building. Having a 24/7 manned security, offered us, especially my wife, the full comfort and security of living in the middle of a very vibrant city, while feeling that we could escape the hustle bustle all in our apartment.
Location, Location, Location. Then, the VIEW, with capital letters. Third in the list is the modern amenities of the new apartment, including a second bathroom for our guests. And finally, a covered parking garage and 24/7 manned security.
Sipping on our favorite cocktail on the balcony, while taking in the spectacular views, both, night and day, was a dream come true.
