My husband and I bought our first Sanctuary by the Sea in Carmel in 2006. Our background includes architecture, kitchen & bathroom design, Realtor, Stager ,Former Vermont Innkeeper/Chef. David -Architect-loves to create spaces that nurture and inspire and Annee likes to create places (vacation homes) that nurture and inspire. We created Sanctuary Vacation Rentals to help our friends be able to share their beautiful homes and allow families and friends to come together to experience what we believe is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and have all the comforts of a home away from home. The owners of these homes are very involved and take a lot of joy and pride in opening their home and hearts to fellow travelers. It is our deepest wish that anyone who stays at one of the Sanctuary Vacation Homes feel that this is one of the nicest places they have ever stayed including every one who assists them in the reservation process.

One of the best getaways ever! The Torres Cottage is everything promised, charming, sunny, comfortable and meticulously clean. The hosts are gracious and took care of everything. We hope that many more get to enjoy the peace and quiet of this quaint little beach town.

This is a small cottage which would be perfect for a couple. It was extremely clean, decorated wonderful, fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable bed. I stayed for a month and enjoyed the cottage and Carmel. Kathleen was always available if I had a question or problem; which really there was only one time I could not get internet to work, but unplugged it for a minute and it was up and running. The pictures are accurate. It is a bit of a walk to get to the cottage from where you park so be prepared to do that when you load and unload your vehicle. They provided a cleaning during the month and that was nice to have a fresh and clean cottage half way thru; They also provided some Christmas decorations, and would have provided a tree if I requested. It is very quiet, there is a small park directly across the street you can take your dog to and you can see the ocean sitting on a bench while your dog sniffs around, which we did, and at night you can hear the ocean. The cottage is located in a great location, you can walk to a deli/grocery store and many restaurants, Katys being my favorite early morning breakfast spot. I also enjoyed wine tasting in Carmel Valley, and there is a little restaurant there with the best pumpkin pancakes called the Wagonwheel. Some places do not take credit cards, so carry some cash. There is so many things to enjoy in Carmel and the cottage is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing, shopping or wine tasting. I would recommend this cottage for singles, or couples.
I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
I was very happy with the location.
The vacation rental was very clean.
The property manager was very helpful.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.
Let me start by saying how absolutely adorable this cottage and it’s environs are. Like all of Anne’s properties the finer things of Life were provided for and within a matter of hours you feel right at home. Your staff is very professional, supportive and aware that staying in the background is an excellent rule. Tracy and Marietta were real gems about supporting my every request. The cleaning team that came to do mid-month cleaning was fantastic, efficient and friendly. They were willing to clean wherever you indicated some problems. Like all facilities, this cottage needs some TLC. Below are just some suggestions for improvements: There needs to be more labels for things like the “disposal” are located, cleaning supplies, what is in bathroom in cabinet, kitchen items etc. Have someone unfamiliar with the house try to find ordinary things. Cuisinart Coffee maker is too complicated. The middle unit on the maker is moody and pops out at will. Lastly, this maker is a real b---- to clean. I literally let basket, and grinder sit in hot water for hours the build up coffee grinds came off the parts. If you do not clean this after each use, it becomes unusable. I bought a Mr. Coffee and Grinder at Prims for $45 dollars. Easy to replace and operate. The refrigerator needs replaced. It works find but the rust on the outside does no look so good. There are many tiles on the kitchen floor that need replace because they are cracked or the grout is coming off. Your have already requested bids on fixing the fireplace, it just adds so much to the charm of the cottage. I purchased a new poker, as the other one was useless. I strongly suggest you make available to renters only “Fat Wood” to start fires. I left you a box as a starter. If renters burn pine logs and starter kits, the fireplace must be cleaned every 6 months. The pine residue builds on the chimney walls and a chimney fire could happen. Houses in Carmel are too close together to allow for such an events.
My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing week in Carmel at the Torres cottage. It was so peaceful and within walking distance of downtown. The cottage is well appointed as Annie has added all the little touches. It was like being at home. This cottage is quaint and private with a fence surrounding the property. I was able to park my car inside the property which I liked. We used the Aquarium passes which was a savings. We really had a nice time there and will stay there again.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay from the moment of our arrival. The cottage is clean, well cared for and the garden is inviting. We loved the proximity to town and the beach coupled with the quiet of not being too close. The cottage is well-equiped, bright and cheerful. We travel to Carmel at least twice a year and finally, after a 20+ year search, we have found the perfect place. We found it to be a great value. It's not cheap, but we certainly felt we got more than our money's worth of comfort and enjoyment.
The Beach Cottage has superb designer touches to be cherished, you felt so welcomed as if you were trading homes with dear friends, all four of us treasured our time and our dog was welcome as well! We definitely will be back. The location is close to everything and the Aquarium passes were perfect for quick entry. Carmel Beach is fabulous and close, there is a washer and dryer and the patio is large and enclosed for privacy. It was the perfect vacation anytime of the year! Our tweens thought it was perfect as well. There is a tv, cd player, areas to read in comfort, a fabulous kitchen with all that you could need for dining, and the fluffiest towels ever! The garden is gorgeous and large windows to view it! Our dog enjoyed it as well since the very large patio was enclosed he could lie outside comfortably and there are so many dog friendly restaurants. The house felt open and you truly wanted to spend time there when you weren't at the beach! It is a perfect getaway for a family or a couple.
love this vacation home rental for the following reasons:
-Its beautifully decorated and appointed with everything you could ever need - it really does feel like your own beach cottage! It's just beautiful!
-Its close enough to walk to town and the beach if you can handle a long walk.
- Its very comfortable.
- Its dog friendly - so important to my family and I!
- Its kid friendly (the property is totally fenced in and safe for both animals and kids alike)
- The front yard has enough space for play and relaxing.
Things that keep me from giving a 5 star rating:
- The prices are constantly changing based on dates and how many days ahead you make your reservation as well as how many nights the reservation is for. I understand that weeknight and weekend prices would differ as well as peak times and off season times however, there seem to be so many intricacies that it can cause confusion.
- The cleaning fee is high and the check out procedures are in depth - change one or the other! Luckily, my mom was staying with me so while I got the baby ready she ran around and cleaned. Then in addition I got to pay $175 for a cleaning fee. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to strip a bed or pick up dirty towels - thats what a cleaning fee should be for.
- Check in is just a little late, 4pm. It cuts down on the use of the house which is a bummer when you're really looking forward to the house!
I already recommended it to a friend and they recommended it to a friend!
