QUINTESSENTIAL CARMEL COTTAGE PLUS 1BR GUEST HOUSE OPTIONAL

Carmel House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom 1 bath, sleeps 4-5. (plus 1 bed / 1 bath Guest sleeps 2-3 optional)

Retreat to a gentler, slower-paced era in this delightful tree-shrouded quintessential Carmel-by-the-Sea board-and-batten cottage that evokes the spirit of the village's original founding artist colony. This clean, airy two-bedroom cottage, which is located in a quiet neighborhood only blocks from the downtown, blends seashore-themed originality and whimsy with comfort and good taste.

An additional private 1 bedroom guest cottage is also available . Please note prices below are for main cottage only and an additional $150 per night is added if both are rented at the same time.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted by complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of sparkling cider or wine, passes from the famous Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, Scheid Wine tasting room passes and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is at your disposal to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes and oversized towels, and beach gear.

Relax with a good book and warm body and soul in front of a wood-burning brick fireplace in a cozy living room that features comfy furnishings, a vaulted ceiling with skylights, wooden floors topped with plush rugs and paned windows looking out to a fenced-in patio dotted with pots brimming with colorful flowers and native plants. Crisp beach tones of tan, white and robins-egg blue remind you that the Pacific Ocean is just a stone's throw away and you most assuredly are on vacation.

Picture convivial meals with friends and loved ones around a rectangular French country oak table that can seat up to 10 in a dining area that overlooks the patio. Adjacent is a fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave and side-by-side refrigerator.

Take your morning coffee and croissant at a bistro table tucked into a window corner in the kitchen before you put on your walking shoes and stroll into the village of Carmel to explore the myriad shops, galleries and world-class restaurants. If you're feeling ambitious, you can even continue all the way down Ocean Avenue to its ending at the pristine white beaches and sparkling azure waves that have enticed countless visitors from around the world to kick off their shoes and stroll along the water's edge. If you plan ahead, you can stop at Bruno's Market, a Carmel trademark, en route and pick up some wine, cheese, bread and fresh fruit for a casual picnic.

The robin's-egg blue and sage green master bedroom, with its plush warm carpeting and luxury-hotel-quality linens, features a white California king bed with Memory Foam topper that can be converted to two twins if desired. The second smaller bedroom has hardwood flooring topped with an area rug and a queen wicker bed. Additional sleeping arrangements are provided by a comfortable futon/chaise and a white deep sofa in the living room, offering total sleeping accommodations for up to five adults or four adults and two children. The bathroom, with its new granite counter top, is tiled throughout, including whimsical tiles of fish adorning the combination bath/shower.

Pets are welcome in this secure property, which is completely enclosed by a grape-stake fence. You can walk your dog in a charming vest-pocket park just around the corner. The paved driveway is long enough to accommodate a recreational vehicle; there is plenty of street parking as well. Evening cocktails can be enjoyed at a bistro table in the front patio. A grill is provided for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Outdoor access to washer and dryer.

A newly refurbished one-bedroom guest cottage behind the main house can also be rented to provide additional accommodations. Obtain more information on #3264 on this same website. You can book the guest cottage together with the main house or separately.

My husband and I bought our first Sanctuary by the Sea in Carmel in 2006. Our background includes architecture, kitchen & bathroom design, Realtor, Stager ,Former Vermont Innkeeper/Chef. David -Architect-loves to create spaces that nurture and inspire and Annee likes to create places (vacation homes) that nurture and inspire. We created Sanctuary Vacation Rentals to help our friends be able to share their beautiful homes and allow families and friends to come together to experience what we believe is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and have all the comforts of a home away from home. The owners of these homes are very involved and take a lot of joy and pride in opening their home and hearts to fellow travelers. It is our deepest wish that anyone who stays at one of the Sanctuary Vacation Homes feel that this is one of the nicest places they have ever stayed including every one who assists them in the reservation process.

Reviewer Comments:
Let me start by saying how absolutely adorable this cottage and it’s environs are. Like all of Anne’s properties the finer things of Life were provided for and within a matter of hours you feel right at home. Your staff is very professional, supportive and aware that staying in the background is an excellent rule. Tracy and Marietta were real gems about supporting my every request. The cleaning team that came to do mid-month cleaning was fantastic, efficient and friendly. They were willing to clean wherever you indicated some problems. Like all facilities, this cottage needs some TLC. Below are just some suggestions for improvements: There needs to be more labels for things like the “disposal” are located, cleaning supplies, what is in bathroom in cabinet, kitchen items etc. Have someone unfamiliar with the house try to find ordinary things. Cuisinart Coffee maker is too complicated. The middle unit on the maker is moody and pops out at will. Lastly, this maker is a real b---- to clean. I literally let basket, and grinder sit in hot water for hours the build up coffee grinds came off the parts. If you do not clean this after each use, it becomes unusable. I bought a Mr. Coffee and Grinder at Prims for $45 dollars. Easy to replace and operate. The refrigerator needs replaced. It works find but the rust on the outside does no look so good. There are many tiles on the kitchen floor that need replace because they are cracked or the grout is coming off. Your have already requested bids on fixing the fireplace, it just adds so much to the charm of the cottage. I purchased a new poker, as the other one was useless. I strongly suggest you make available to renters only “Fat Wood” to start fires. I left you a box as a starter. If renters burn pine logs and starter kits, the fireplace must be cleaned every 6 months. The pine residue builds on the chimney walls and a chimney fire could happen. Houses in Carmel are too close together to allow for such an events.

Relaxing stay in Carmel

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing week in Carmel at the Torres cottage. It was so peaceful and within walking distance of downtown. The cottage is well appointed as Annie has added all the little touches. It was like being at home. This cottage is quaint and private with a fence surrounding the property. I was able to park my car inside the property which I liked. We used the Aquarium passes which was a savings. We really had a nice time there and will stay there again.

Charming, Pet Friendly Paradise

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed a wonderful stay from the moment of our arrival. The cottage is clean, well cared for and the garden is inviting. We loved the proximity to town and the beach coupled with the quiet of not being too close. The cottage is well-equiped, bright and cheerful. We travel to Carmel at least twice a year and finally, after a 20+ year search, we have found the perfect place. We found it to be a great value. It's not cheap, but we certainly felt we got more than our money's worth of comfort and enjoyment.

Extraordinary Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5
The Beach Cottage has superb designer touches to be cherished, you felt so welcomed as if you were trading homes with dear friends, all four of us treasured our time and our dog was welcome as well! We definitely will be back. The location is close to everything and the Aquarium passes were perfect for quick entry. Carmel Beach is fabulous and close, there is a washer and dryer and the patio is large and enclosed for privacy. It was the perfect vacation anytime of the year! Our tweens thought it was perfect as well. There is a tv, cd player, areas to read in comfort, a fabulous kitchen with all that you could need for dining, and the fluffiest towels ever! The garden is gorgeous and large windows to view it! Our dog enjoyed it as well since the very large patio was enclosed he could lie outside comfortably and there are so many dog friendly restaurants. The house felt open and you truly wanted to spend time there when you weren't at the beach! It is a perfect getaway for a family or a couple.

Love this home!!

  • 4 of 5
love this vacation home rental for the following reasons:
-Its beautifully decorated and appointed with everything you could ever need - it really does feel like your own beach cottage! It's just beautiful!
-Its close enough to walk to town and the beach if you can handle a long walk.
- Its very comfortable.
- Its dog friendly - so important to my family and I!
- Its kid friendly (the property is totally fenced in and safe for both animals and kids alike)
- The front yard has enough space for play and relaxing.

Things that keep me from giving a 5 star rating:
- The prices are constantly changing based on dates and how many days ahead you make your reservation as well as how many nights the reservation is for. I understand that weeknight and weekend prices would differ as well as peak times and off season times however, there seem to be so many intricacies that it can cause confusion.
- The cleaning fee is high and the check out procedures are in depth - change one or the other! Luckily, my mom was staying with me so while I got the baby ready she ran around and cleaned. Then in addition I got to pay $175 for a cleaning fee. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to strip a bed or pick up dirty towels - thats what a cleaning fee should be for.
- Check in is just a little late, 4pm. It cuts down on the use of the house which is a bummer when you're really looking forward to the house!

I already recommended it to a friend and they recommended it to a friend!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this cottage for 5 nights. It has a great location, very convenient for walking to restaurants and shops. We hardly used our car during our stay which was exactly what we wanted. The cottage was nicely decorated and stocked with everything we needed including pet covers/throws, dog bowls, a selection of dvds and beach paraphernalia. The main house and studio each have their own completely private yards but there's a gate that can be opened if rented together. All in all a great trip and we hope to stay again.
