Walkabout cottage, located just 13 miles east of the town of Homer, Alaska, is on the bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay and the Portlock and Dixon glaciers. Homer, Alaska, has been pegged the 'halibut capital of the world' and 'the Shangri-la' of Alaska. While in Homer, you can enjoy fishing for halibut or salmon on fish charters out in Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet, or take a quick water taxi or sea kayak trip across Kachemak Bay to the villages of Seldovia or Halibut Cove. The Kachemak Bay area is home to many art galleries featuring lthe work of local and Native Alaskan artists and craftspersons, as well as opportunities for kayaking, hiking, biking, bird watching, tide pooling, and more. After a busy day exploring, come back to Walkabout Cottage and enjoy a beverage on the front deck ,a long walk through wildflower fields, or choose a book from the owner's library.
