This home is an exquisite 9,000 sq. ft. residence situated on the northern Kohala Coast. Oceanfront views overlook the 30 mile wide 'Alenuihaha channel which separates the Big Island from Maui. While the channel is too turbulent for swimming it is a favorite passage for the "Kohala" also known as the Humpback Whale. During whale season you will be treated to spectacular acrobatic shows by the mother whales with their playful young calves. The house has 5 bedrooms plus a loft along with 4 1/2 bathrooms allowing you to easily accommodate up to 12 people.
Surrounded by breathtaking pastures on three sides the landscape provides a serene and private backdrop. The house has a 2,000 sq. ft. lanai that wraps around the entire house allowing you to enjoy all of the beautiful landscapes, including Mauna Kea, the oldest volcano of the Big Island. Out on the lanai you will almost always enjoy an ocean breeze. There is also a fresh water pond on the ocean side of the property full of Tilapia.
This newly built home is completely off grid and offers a majestic and picturesque location, a perfect home base for a Hawaiian getaway. Our house is the only house past the airport on Upolu Airport Road. From the house you can walk down the road to two historical sites with great significance to the Hawaiian culture. The first is Mo'okini Heiau, a 1500 year old temple and the largest the Heiau in Hawaii, and the second, Akahi Aina Hanau, the birth place of king Kamehameha I.
The house is also just three miles northwest of Hawi, a quaint little town on the northern most tip of the Big Island where you can shop for souvenirs, stop for an ice cream cone or hang loose in the evening often while kicking back to the sound of a local band. Hawi is also the turn around point for the Kona Iron Man race and so the area is also a prime training ground for aspiring Kona Iron Man or Kohala Coast Ironman 70.3 racers. If you enjoy hiking, Waipi'o valley offers a great opportunity. If swimming and sandy beaches is more your style, Hapuna Beach, a top rated beaches is less than a 30 minute drive and of course there are other beaches even closer. Kona, Hilo, Waimea all require a drive, but the scenery can't get much better for a road trip.
A 4x4 is highly recommended as the road leading to the house is unpaved.
