Old San Juan charming villa in the heart of the city

The apartment was very charming. It was fun staying in the center of old san juan, in one of the quaint colonial-styled buildings. For all of the activity in that part of town, the apartment itself felt quite removed from all noise; yet it was conveniently within steps of the major attractions, shops, and restaurants. The apartment did not have internet or a TV, which was fine for our needs -we didn't spend much time in the apartment. It also had a washer-dryer unit, an extra beach towel, and a small cooler available for us to use (thank you!).

This apartment in Old San Juan is in an amazing location... near the forts, restaurants, shops, etc. The apartment itself is small but you should be out exploring San Juan and not spending your time inside! It has a double bed and a single pull-out couch. The beach towels provided allow you to save room in your luggage! Gaby was easy to get ahold of for booking the room and responsive when we called him while in San Juan. One thing that would have been helpful was to get a confirmation email including some instructions including where to pick up the key, the exact address, and how to get there from the airport but we worked it out.
Overall, I would stay here again and I would recommend it for people who don't need the amenities of a hotel/resort. It's a definite bargain compared to what you pay for a hotel room in the same location!

P.S.- If you have a rental car, it can be difficult to find street parking for it in Old San Juan.

Pros:
The location cannot be beat. owner was easily accessible and friendly. Neighborhood appeared very safe and we always felt comfortable.

Cons: the apartment is very dated and shows many signs of wear. The maid appears to just come in and change the sheets and towels as we noticed the stove had not been cleaned at all, there were numerous random bars of used soaps in the shower and sink and lots of hair on the floor and in the bathroom. Make sure and bring your own soaps, shampoo, salt, pepper, paper towels etc as it is a very very basic apartment. We inquired as to if the entire apartment is air conditioned as it is an exterior unit with very little cross ventilation. Only the bedroom has air conditioning. Water pressure as well as hot water in the shower was basically nonexistent, we did not have a comfortable shower during our 5 day stay. We lost electricity for over 12 hours which was problematic. If you need to keep up with the news or know what time it is bring your own tv or iPad and make sure to bring an alarm clock as they are nonexistent in the apartment.

This could be a fantastic rental with a couple thousand dollars spent to bring it up to normal rental standards. We own a vacation rental also listed on homeaway as well as vrbo and have always rented thru these websites when traveling. This is our first experience with a property we were disappointed in. The owner seems very conscientious and will hopefully bring this unit up to a nicer standard.
