Not clean and in disrepair
We’re long-time VRBO renters having to write our first-ever negative review.
Rented property for three nights in August, 2011. Encountered the following:
Cleanliness
In need of deep cleaning throughout.
Grease build up on ceiling & around stove
Significant food particles between counter & stove
Master bathroom shower mildewy and smelly
Couches in need of deep vacuuming
Window frames dirty to touch
Windows dirty
Outside patio area dirty beyond normal conditions, substance spills not removed
Disrepair
Three of four mattresses well beyond life expectancy -- broken down.
Screen door, master bedroom -- screen torn out, door off track
Kitchen chairs -- wooden rungs broken, dangerous, caused injury
Towel racks in bathroom broken
Largest drinking glass was six ounces.
“Even small river raft” -- no river raft, hasn’t been for some time
“Mountain bikes...all for your use!” First bike had broken derailleur; second was unrideable because of bent rim.
Outside chairs -- four Adirondack chairs, two of which were broken beyond use; two plastic chairs, one of which was broken and dangerous
This property appears to be one which accurately fit the description on the website some years ago, but has fallen into disrepair and uncleanliness.
Owner's Response: As the family homeowner, I was very disappointed that the prior reviewer was not happy with his stay. We tried to make him happy. The prior reviewer arrived early and insisted on moving in before my cleaning staff could clean my home after the prior guests had left. After the first night in my home, the reviewer contacted me and complained about my home. Wanting my guests to be happy, I immediately offered him the chance to move to another Steamboat rental home and 100% of his money back. He refused to move but then after staying in my home for 3 nights, he did not want to pay anything for his entire stay - under the threat of giving my home a bad review. I believe that this was an attempted shakedown from the very beginning. As a popular rental home in Steamboat, my home was extremely busy this summer with both individuals and families, as well as soccer teams, softball teams and family reunions. While the property does experience some wear and tear during these busy seasons (as would be expected), I regularly have to replace furniture, dishes, silverware, towels, etc. that get broken or disappear, as well as bring in a maintenance man to repair the property and its amenities. Repairs and replacements are a part of making my home available for my guests, I am OK with that since it means my home is very popular and well used by both new and repeat guests, and I have many, many, many guests that love my home and return every year and appreciate everything that is there for them. Replacements and repiaris have been completed. Again, I am sorry that the reviewer was not happy with my home, but I did thank him for his comments, and that I would follow up with repairs. I was truly disappointed with this review. I did encourage him and his family to return often to beautiful Steamboat Springs.
