Sebastopol House Rental Photos and Description

750 Sq.ft. 1 Bed And Bath Plus A Queen Sleeper Downstairs. Light Filled House.

You Just Found Your Haven on the Hill

When folks come to visit, they never want to leave. This is why we created The Birdhouse. Now, it can be yours to enjoy.

Located one hour north of San Francisco, smack-dab in the middle of the world famous Sonoma County wine country. We are 20 minutes from the beautiful Pacific coast or the magnificent redwoods at Armstrong Woods. The Sebastopol area is bursting with world class wineries, restaurants, art, music, and so much more.

The Birdhouse at FancyNest Farm is perched among the pine trees with sweeping western views of the vineyards. This light-filled, one bedroom home is perfect for your next relaxing vacation in the wine country.

Describe the 750 sf.ft., two-storied, one bedroom house, please...

The main living area is open and spacious with 17' ceilings and ample seating. We want you to feel at home with thoughtful design touches that go beyond the normal vacation rental. Of course we have WiFi and TV, but there is also a nook specially designed for reading. The living room is connected to the dining and kitchen area, making it easy to keep the conversation going. The sofa pulls out to a 4 1/2 inch queen memory foam hateful bar across the back. The reading nook even has a single pull out sofa. The true highlight of the room is the bank of western facing windows...and the ever-changing view.

What about the kitchen...

We have stocked the cabinets as if we were staying there; all that you need to cook an excellent meal as if you were home. Your basic condiments and spices are on hand because we would want that if we were on vacation. We included a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, espresso machine, crock pot and a dishwasher. The glass dining table has four mid-century chairs that mom bought back in '64 plus that great view. The sliding door off the kitchen opens to the multi-tiered deck which has an outdoor table, chairs and umbrella. The charcoal grill is at the ready in case you bring back oysters from Tomales. Or veggies from the many farmer's markets.

The Bedroom...

Without exception, everyone who walks into the bedroom is enveloped by serenity and peacefulness. Great attention was paid to create a space where your troubles can melt away. We invested in a top of the line memory foam mattress, (waterproof and bedbug proof encasements for your ease of mind) excellent sheets, high quality feather pillows and lovely down duvet and sea foam green blanket. We installed our incredible collection of oil paintings depicting images of San Francisco from the 50's, 80's and 90's. This original work was made by the Owners, Nancy Irish and her mother, Pat Irish Amez, as well as Pat's sister, Diana Creber. Sit on the comfy chair with reading light or outside on the balcony overlooking the pool. A beautiful wooden dresser has a mirror and lighting. The large closet houses an iron and board for your convenience.

Talk about the pool and hot tub?

A path on the western side of the building leads you to the pool and hot tub, which is shared with the property owners. The pool is passive heated during the spring, summer and early fall months. The hot tub sits on a lovely perch where you will enjoy the amazing views. This is a place where you can further unwind and relax.

What else is there?

There is ample parking for two cars.

Last comments...

The property is 2 1/2 acres. Casual gardens spaces are interspersed with Mother Nature herself. We have many apple trees and a small vegetable garden. The greenhouse is a work in progress. The lasting impression of this place is the vast sky. From many locations you have a 180 degree view of unobstructed openness. The BIRDHOUSE is named and lovingly decorated to honor the many varieties of birds who call FancyNest Farm home. Look up and you might see a red shouldered hawk drawing circles in the sky. Listen carefully to hear the hummingbird zipping about in the bottle brush trees. We provided a bird feeder and bath so you can have an upfront experience with the birds. On a clear night be prepared for a spectacular show of stars. We have a fire pit to keep you warm while you take in the hushed beauty.

About Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer

FancyNest Farm belongs to our Mom, Pat Amez. Pat, her daughter Nancy Irish and son-in-law Doug Blumer are the trio behind FancyNest. Pat is a renowned painter and several of her works are on display in The Birdhouse. She will even give a private tour of her original watercolors in her house if you ask nicely! Doug and Nancy are the leaders of a local Americana Band called 'The Bohemian Highway'. You will receive a copy of their latest album as a thanks when you check in. Many guests are thrilled to have a 'soundtrack' to their stay.

Pat moved to this location with her family back in the mid-70's. Nancy graduated from the local high school. Fast forward to 2010...Doug and Nancy had lived for over 20 years in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach District. Pat was thinking about selling the place and moving on. Together, they decided to try to preserve the family homestead. The property has had many significant upgrades, and now we are focusing on the rental property.

Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer purchased this house in 1976

Why Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer chose Sebastopol

This location is special. The incredible expansive views just make you relax the moment you drive down the hill to the house. There is space just to be, sit and relax. Open sky to watch the hawks circling above. And the trees and the birds. We honored the birds by focusing our design around being able to view these wonders of nature. The private deck is on the eastern side of the house which provides a secluded retreat for you to sit and watch the birds at the feeder and the bird bath. The Birdhouse looks west to the beautiful vineyards across the valley.

What makes this house unique

Wake up to the sound of the California Quail chirping. The wild turkeys will gobble by. The soaring hawks. The beyond the speed of light humming birds. And thats just a few birds we could name.

The house is light filled. Art filled. Comfort filled. You will relax here! We strive to make this an incredible place that WE want to spend time in.

We are also centrally located to all that is wonderful about Western Sonoma County. You can access the magnificent Pacific coastline in under 30 minutes. You can stroll among the majestic redwoods at Armstrong woods. You can ride you bike on the back roads from our place. Don't forget the many amazing wineries and great restaurants scattered around the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Birdhouse in Sebastopol truly is a relaxing haven! We enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset over the neighboring vineyard from the wonderful deck above the house. We also enjoyed meals there while quiet breezes tinkled the wind chimes and cooled the air at the end of the day. The inside of the house is a feast for the eyes...vibrant colors and gorgeous art pieces of every medium grace the walls and shelves. The kitchen is well-appointed and provided everything that we needed during our stay....including a beautiful bouquet in the window to greet us. Each and every window in the Birdhouse has a different view of the surrounding area that draws your eye back again and again. The pool and spa were enjoyed by all of us...everything you would need from sunscreen to towels was provided. We look forward to returning whenever we are in the area.

Nancy and Doug, hosts extraordinaire, have created the most lovely, peaceful little getaway nook one could ever hope to find. The property is so clearly well-loved and cared for -- trees galore, a beautiful garden, sweet little deck, and truly a million beautiful birds. The house is immaculate, but also warm and welcoming... the well-stocked kitchen, binoculars and bird books, clean pool and hot tub and available movies, music and games really make it feel guest-ready. Nancy and Doug themselves are clearly kind, thoughtful, generous hosts - and they're both close enough to be on hand when needed, but distant enough to allow for plenty of privacy. They're also such lovely and interesting people! We had a glorious long weekend in the Birdhouse and hope to be back soon. Thank you so much Nancy and Doug for everything!

My stay in Sebastopol, Ca. at the Birdhouse

  • 5 of 5

Though the listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, and amenities, it was really understated. The location, layout, and amenities were outstanding. The view from each and every window on all four sides of the house was gorgeous. The property was clean, beautifully decorated and well-maintained. On my initial arrival when Nancy and Paul, the property managers, were not at home, Nancy's mother and owner of the property Pat, met and graciously welcomed me.

The property was clean and well-maintained and the managers did provide good customer service. When I mentioned that having a motion light available for after dark returning, a motion light was installed within 2 days. When I needed a pin to try to remove a tick from my dog Blue, Nancy went and found one then later offered tweezers to help solve the problem.

I would return to the Birdhouse and recommend it to others.

My time was spent with my daughter, walking Blue on the Laguna de Santa Rosa, exercising at the YMCA in Santa Rosa, attending a seminar on the geological history of Laguna de Santa Rosa, and looking for a retirement home to purchase.

I was very happy with my stay at the Birdhouse. My only dissatisfaction is with VRBO because they do not allow American Express payment and I had to use a credit card that I do not like to use.

Quiet Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Birdhouse. It is a little outside of town, so it is very quiet, relaxing & secluded. Staying here put us halfway between the beach at Bodega Bay & the wineries of Sonoma, so we were able to do a little of both. Doug was so kind & had some wonderful local recommendations. We would recommend a stay here for a "small town" getaway right in the thick of the Sonoma Valley.

What a wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay! We so enjoyed our stay here. The home is so wonderfully decorated, with such attention to detail. The original artwork really means a lot and shows very well. The home was super clean and comfortable. We just wanted to move in permanently! the photos do not do this property justice! The views are spectacular! We spent an evening by the pool with the owners, and found them to be fun, gracious and so accommodating. We would certainly stay here again, and would recommend to anyone in the area. Thanks for such a great stay!

This place is wonderful! The home was beautifully decorated, the pictures do not do it justice. Super clean and comfortable. We spent an evening by the pool and the views are spectacular! The hosts were so welcoming and outgoing, always ready to accommodate. The property is away from the city and so quiet and beautiful. We would absolutely stay here again, and would recommend this to anyone who is or will be in the area.

Highly recommend the Birdhouse to friends and family

  • 5 of 5

The Birdhouse is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and tastefully decorated. It has a very special ambiance which is stylish with a flair for mid-century modern, yet feels warm and cozy. Original art and a bird nest/house theme make it delightful. Quiet and peaceful, in a country setting, we had a great nights rest in a very comfortable bed with lovely linens, and beautiful bedspread. The vintage teak wood bed has a feeling of luxury and comfort. We woke up to the distant sound of California Quail in the morning. The fully furnished kitchen has everything we needed including choices for indoor and outdoor eating areas.

Everything is sparkly clean and inviting.

The Birdhouse is in a great location for day trips to small towns and tasting rooms tucked away in wine country. Really enjoyed the Russian River for kayaking and walks along the ocean. Great restaurants and unique shops minutes away in Sabastobol. Discovered the delights of the "Garden Flour Bakery" just down the road. The friendly owners are very informative and accommodating. We would highly recommend the Birdhouse to friends and family who want a unique experience when visiting wine country.

Car: necessary

We are 4 miles from downtown Sebastopol, downtown Occidental, and 15 miles from the ocean at Bodega Bay. It takes one hour from our door to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

We are surrounded by many beautiful vineyards, organic farms and orchards. The area is known for its wine, of course, but also for its food and agriculture. There are 20+ wineries within just a few minutes of the house. Sebastopol and the surrounding area boasts a dizzying array of indoor and outdoor entertainment including music, theatre, art galleries, antique stores, restaurants, hiking, redwood forests, beaches, cycling and farmer's markets, zip lines and so much more.

Our property is 2/1/2 acres on the western facing slope in a former apple orchard. Two separate vineyards occupy the hillside opposite our place. The sounds of the local rural farms drift across the wind. On top of the hill across the valley is the 30 acre BioOrganic farm belonging to the amazing restaurant, THE FRENCH GARDEN. You will have to have dinner there!

Little towns surround our place like Graton and Occidental where you can go zip lining among the treetops. In Freestone you can fine one of the most renown day spas or the best bakery ever!

The Russian River is just down the crooked road where you can raft or float down stream. Among the many wineries we are proud to have Korbel Champagne, just to name one.

You might have heard about Napa County and all the great wine. But that is really all they have to offer. We have great wine as well, but we also feature so many more natural wonders to visit.
