Warm wood, games, pool table, hot tub, just for you to enjoy all the mountains offer.
The Hummingbird Log Cabin is a spacious, well appointed, true log cabin, centrally located in the heart of Banner Elk, on the front side of the base of Beech Mountain. It majestically sits several hundred feet above downtown Banner Elk enjoying panoramic views of Beech Mountain from the deck and front yard. This luxury log cabin was constructed by Southland Log Homes out of 8” pine logs and heavy timbers for the second floor and roof systems. The foundation is constructed out of Concrete Insulated Forms, making the first floor Pool Table and Guest Room a wonderfully warm and cozy place to be as well.
The central location of The Hummingbird Log Cabin makes this cabin a very desirable selection for your vacation. You can walk to downtown Banner Elk in less than 10 minutes to indulge at one of the local restaurants, enjoy dinner, hot chocolate and ice cream at the Banner Elk Lodge, or maybe all you need to do is have a quick 30 second drive down to the store to pick up some more butter for cooking at home! What a great place to be for the 4th of July Banner Elk festivities, or any of the fall festivals, such as the Valle Crucis Country fair or the Wooly Worm Festival in Banner Elk! Also ... don`t forget this location for great outdoor winter and spring activities!
Attention Skiers and Mountain Bikers!
The Hummingbird Log Cabin is just a short 4 miles from the top of Beech Mountain and only 3 miles from the entrance to Sugar Mountain.
Hummingbird is located on the route of the 50 mile Blood Sweat and Gears. The beautiful and secluded mountain roads of this route draws cyclists from all over the nation once a year. From Hummingbird, you can ride it yourself right from your front door.
As you arrive at The Hummingbird Log Cabin, you will notice there is copious amounts of parking as well as a nice 2 car garage. There is a beautiful maze of slate that leads you through and around the garden to the front door; the garden path is decorated with over a hundred different flowering plants that bloom at different times throughout the blooming season. During your stay, this lovely front porch, which extends the length of the house, is a nice place to enjoy the garden or views of Beech Mountain while sipping a cup of coffee. You can enjoy those views from the swinging bench, rockers or hammock.
Upon entering the log home, you are welcomed by a beautiful hummingbird in the mosaic tiled floor. As you look up, you will see the majestic log stairway leading up to the second floor. The entry way provides plenty of coat hooks, a full coat closet, and a half bath. As you move into the great room you can enjoy the soaring ceiling and the 25 foot stone wood burning fireplace.
The great room of the house is very spacious and flows well with the large open kitchen, dining room and back porch. Plenty of early morning light fills the main living area of the house, and it has been carefully decorated with choice antiques and selected furniture to elegantly outfit the room with comfortable seating for 8-10 people. This great room has beautiful hardwood oak floors throughout. There is a large, antique, hand carved wood desk in one corner of the living room, and another hand carved antique high top game table in the other. The desk makes an ideal place to set up to read, work, or write letters. Of course, you might want to enjoy the cracking fires of the wood burning stone fireplace on cool summer nights just for the ambiance, but the added warmth and beauty is a certainty during the winter months! (Don`t forget add firewood to your reservation if you would like it delivered and ready for use upon arrival).
During the spring, summer and fall, the back deck, which spans the entire length of the house, has great teak deck furniture. There is a large table with 6 chairs, an umbrella, side tables, and two lounge chairs. The back deck, which can be accessed from the dining room, living room, and master bedroom, is also where the hot tub is located. It is surrounded by the beautiful mature mountain forest for great privacy and nice shade to enjoy the cool mountain air. There is a new stainless gas grill (2012) outside the dining room as well.
Cable TV is wired throughout the home to a TV in each bedroom, the pool table/guest room, and the living room. The living room and master bedroom have large flat screen TVs with DVD players. The living room also has a stereo to compliment the comfortable over-sized great room. DVD Players are with each TV.
The gourmet kitchen with gorgeous onyx granite is the favorite place for many who have stayed here. There is a large pantry, washer/dryer, pull out spice racks, full size convection oven, microwave and gas cooktop with a downdraft vent in the island. A large side by side refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser will allow you to keep all the necessary items you require for your culinary delights. If you make a mess there is a dishwasher and sink disposal to help you clean up. There is a coffee maker, toaster and a toaster oven in the midst of lots granite counters space which will make it easy for you to organize each meal for your stay. The dining area is in front of the kitchen and beside the great room making it all one large integrated space. Come to the Hummingbird Log Cabin to enjoy good cooking or simply eating delicious food with wonderful company.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Our stay of 8 nights at the cabin was great! The location in the heart of Banner Elk was ideal for starting our daily bike rides! We road college bike together. Our group was very positive on the house and is already looking forward to next year.
