We have four boats to choose from for your self guided fishing adventure or you can visit with your own boat. We can arrange for a charter fishing captain if you are not ready for a self guided trip.
We have four rental boats available for your fishing adventures. Both Hewescraft boats are high quality aluminum boats designed for fishing. Our open skiff is ideal for people who are looking for a runaround boat:
2005 20' Hewescraft Sportsman offers a fuel efficient 90 hp motor fully equipped to fish with downriggers. The Sportsman has a canvas cover top and more inside seating and works well if you are a group of four or more. Offers maximum comfort for four fishing. Priced at $299 per day.
2009 20' Sportsman. Canvas top. 115hp Yamaha, 8hp kicker, electric downriggers, pot puller, spring seating, extended transom. $399/day.

Trucker seats offer a smooth ride and a built in stereo to listen to the radio or bring your iphone or pod to cruise to your own tunes. Powered with a fuel efficient 150hp Honda and a 8hp kicker. This boat arrived here brand spanking new in May and is a joy to run. She is also rigged with downriggers and is ready to fish and provides the ultimate comfort for up to groups of four. Rents at $399 per day.
Open 16' aluminium skiff, perfect for running to town and fishing closer to the house in calm weather. Bring good raingear and rubber boots. $150 per day.
Fishing poles for salmon and halibut are available for a $5/day charge per pole. Clients are responsible for providing their own tackle.
There is no time curfew on self guided fishing boat rentals which means you can get the 4am bite. Arrival day for boat hire is charged at a half day rate.
Herring bait and crab bait are available for sale in the fish processing area. No need to keep running back to town and a guaranteed supply of herring which often sells out in town.
We provide a courtesy pick up upon your arrival in Ketchikan at either the airport or in town. We will pick you upon arrival at the baggage claim and bring you to the house so you can drop your luggage off. We will then give you an orientation on the boat and go over the rental agreement and our local area. Our check in time is not until 4pm but you can use the boat to go and get your groceries and get a jump on the fishing while we are getting the house ready. The first day’s rental will only be billed as a half day. We do not rent the house without a boat rental, unless you are coming with your own boat.
On your departure day, check out is at 10am, we can either drop you at the airport or in town. Alaska Airlines will allow bags to be checked in four hours prior to departure and there is a small ferry you can then take to the town side if you want to spend your last hours visiting town.
Guests renting a boat will receive a familiarization trip of the boat, the local area and fishing grounds. If you are new to fishing for salmon with downriggers we strongly suggest using a charter captain for your first morning. This way you can learn hands on the techniques, depths and areas that produce fish. This will take the guesswork out of your self guided fishing and be a more productive trip for you. We have two enthusiastic and patient captain's we recommend who are willing to teach as they fish!
Our home was built by hand from yellow cedar trees cut from the surrounding forest and milled locally and offers:
Large king bedroom with one king bed and two twin beds. Exceptional water and forest views.
1 bedroom with queen and 2 singles. Water and forest views.
1 bedroom with queen bed with garden and forest views.
1 bedroom with one twin bed. Garden and forest views.
And a small loft bedroom accessed by a hidden drop down stair offers a single twin bed. Suitable for teens who like the hideaway, however it has a very low ceiling height for adults and is awkward to access with the narrow ladder.
Bedrooms are provided with high thread count cotton linens.
Our home offers a wonderful beach for exploring right outside the front door with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Trails lead to remote beaches on the backside of the island. Here you can wander the beach in solitude beachcombing or relaxing in peace with a book.
Your hosts Kim and Richard live nearby and are available to help with any concerns during your stay. We enjoy sharing the island lifestyle and you are welcome to join in island adventures; beach combing the back side of the island, hiking in the forest and muskeg; towing home a beach log for firewood, splitting and stacking wood for winter or going crabbing for Dungeness Crab.
Concierge services are also available: housekeeping services; full or partial catering; daily guiding for fishing; beach combing and remote hiking.
We look forward to seeing you here!

Kim Kirby is your host at Pennock Island.
Kim is originally from England and came to Ketchikan in 1990, kayaking here from Juneau a trip that lasted three months. Paddling the Inside Passage was the start of a long love affair with Southeast Alaska and Pennock Island offered a wonderful way to continue to live close to the water with a few more amenities!
Kim started and ran a kayak company in Ketchikan for 12 years before finding the perfect island getaway on Pennock Island in 2005.
She has five acres on Pennock and enjoys sharing the island lifestyle with guests visiting from around the world.
She has her US Coastguard Captain's license and a flying license and enjoys float plane flying around the local area.
She is happy to share with you what makes Alaska so special, be it on the water fishing, hiking the ridge tops or beach combing.
Being on the water in SE Alaska is pure joy and living an island lifestyle with no roads means you are on the water all the time. Forget the stress of cars and roads and noise. Here you live a life set to the rythym of wind and tides.
The dog can run free and is the alarm bell when visitors show up at the front door, which is the dock that stretches across the tidal beach.
Snug Harbor House is the last inhabited house on the grid. Beyond is the wilder back side where you can walk the beach for about a mile with no other person in sight.
The interior of the island is untouched and is great to explore following deer trails through the rainforest and muskeg.
People are pretty scarce on the island and it is always a joy to share time chatting if you bump into one another in the bay or along the beaches.
Snow's Cove on Pennock Island offers all the advantages of living a life without roads and cars and all the benefits of a town within a short five minute boat ride. Privacy, peace, wildlife and woodland walks and just plain messing about in a boat are all here.
