Enjoy a quiet week (or more) at this 1950's cottage tucked into a garden setting in South Laguna Beach. Located just blocks from the popular West Street Beach and several more secluded coves, it is within easy walking distance of 5 excellent restaurants, a sandwich shop, a walk-up Mexican food café, the local Village Green Park, and a Tram/bus stop to downtown Laguna Beach or the nearby Montage Resort area.
The completely furnished beach retreat, perfect for couples or families with young children. The cottage is semi-attached to the main house but has its own private entrance and garden. It is a large studio/suite with two multi-functional rooms that sleep up to 4. The front room has a day-bed with trundle and the 'sun-room' has a Queen size, pull-down wall bed. Please note that there is no privacy door between the two areas. If you enjoy cooking, there is a well-equipped kitchenette with a GE Monogram 2 burner cook-top, a counter-top oven, microwave, dish-washer and plenty of pot
This is a perfect spot to serve as headquarters for beach days, enjoying the Art Festivals in summer, taking hikes in the hills, or exploring the sights of Southern California. Laguna Beach offers lots of fun shops and art galleries, some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, scores of restaurants, and a location half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, both of which are little more than an hour away by car.
Other Amenities: : Iron, Coffee maker, electric tea kettle, private entrance, electric baseboard heating.
Activities (on site and nearby): Year round Art Galleries (don't miss the first Thursday Art Walk), and summer Art Festivals. Short walk to beaches and restaurants.
This charming cottage is well-maintained and has every amenity you need for a vacation - I stayed here twice this past winter and especially love the quiet neighborhood and proximity to the beaches. It is several blocks to a secluded sea cove and a short drive to the nearest public beach, grocery store, CVS, Starbuck's. etc. You can walk to a donut shop, fancy restuarant, 7-11, and some businesses. The interior design of the cottage is cozy and cheerful; the kitchen is very well stocked and the counter oven can roast a chicken. You can find left-over pantry items like pasta, coffee, seasonings, etc. The master bed was quite comfortable. There is no longer a computer; nor is there a landline, but I was all set with my iphone. There is a sliding door to the bathroom so there is privacy there, and I agree with previous renters that the curtain between the two main sleeping areas would do fine for families. I enjoyed the videos, DVDs, books abd large desk area, and there are games, beach chairs and towels, and plenty of linens and supplies - even a high chair. The cottage is attached to the main house so you very close by you have the owner, who is respectful of your privacy and available if you need anything. The location is South Laguna which is about 3 miles south of the main beach - Laguna Beach. I would recommend this lovely cottage especially for families, a couple, or a single who wants to enjoy being in a nice low-key neighborhood.
Having two small children, it's often difficult to find accommodations that allow the kids to go to bed early when they are exhausted, allow us to skip eating out every meal of the day, and remain within our family budget. This cottage was wonderful for us! The twin daybed and twin trundle gave both kids their own bed in a separate room. They could go to sleep while we watched TV or sat and talked. The kitchen was wonderful, we prepared several meals in, burgers and corn on the cob on the grill, chicken tacos. It was nice being able to throw on a pot of coffee and get the kids cereal without having to leave. The close restaurants and beach were nice for evenings where we didn't want to drag our stuff to the larger beaches, and the scenery was beautiful. We had a fantastic family vacation in this lovely cottage!
I highly recommend the Captain Dave's whale watching tour and grabbing some fish or Langostino Tacos at Coyote Grill.
This cottage is nice and clean and really does have everything. From an abundance of dishes, pots & pans, linens and washer & dryer inside, to the gas grill, and patio area outside. There is even a place to hang wet bathing suits outside. All you need to bring is your own food for the fridge. They even have a computer with internet access or you can use their wi fi on your own laptop. -- The beach and several restaurants are an easy 1-2 block walk away. -- I would highly recommend this place.
we had a very good stay at your cottage, well furnished for everything. thank you!
Our week at this charming cottage was wonderful. The property is well-maintained and we were pleasantly surprised that it seemed more spacious than we were expecting. The online pictures only show two main rooms; there is also a well stocked kitchen and a nice-sized bath with shower & tub, and also another room for storage/suitcases, etc. We were promptly met both at arrival and departure by the owner's daughter who was very friendly and helpful. The special touches were much appreciated: Plenty of towels (both beach and bath), beach umbrellas, chairs, games, movies, etc. The washer and dryer right in the unit were also much appreciated. Being just a short walk from beautiful Table Rock beach was great; we watched the sun set one night and it was just magical. There is easy access to the free trolly that runs in the summer months, and a few dining choices, along with a donut shop just a block or so away. The deck off the front of the cottage was where we grilled most of our meals and just relaxed. It really felt like we were Laguna residents, if only for a week. Thanks so much for such a great experience! We hope to be back soon.
The over-riding feeling I got from the property is the fact that everything was as described. I stay in short-term rentals throughout the world a lot. I'm used to being told everything will be quiet and then checking in next to a construction site. Even in Laguna Beach others advertise "Location cannot be beat" - when in fact it so easily can!
With this cottage things were different. The owner had no problem in being honest with me. She told me it would be quiet and most of the time it was. She told me about the walk back from the beach - up a lot of steps...but yes it's worth it for the time on the beach and the developing muscles at the back of my legs! She mentioned issues around privacy that were true about the cottage, well done!
This is a great place to stay if you are on your own, a couple or a family with small children. I would not recommend it for families with teen+ children or groups who don't kow each other that well - this is because the cottage is very open plan...there are no internal doors which means if you are taking a shower or doing anything else in the bathroom, people can easily walk in on you. That's not going to be a problem for families with young children or couples.
The bus stop is just down the road (buses are not very frequent but you can obviously match their timetable). The location was quiet with the exception of a guy across the street who was cutting down trees on his property and he even started at 7.30am one day. This won't be a problem for future renters though as the trees are now gone!
The hospitality of the owner and her daughter was welcomed. They received a box of products for me before I even arrived and they also met me at the airport and took me back. This was of course chargeable but it made everything so easy.
There is no sea view but then you pay for sea views and this cottage worked out much better price-wise than others in the area. It's only a few minute's walk to the sea anyhow.
If there was one thing I didn't like (and the reason for rating it as good and not excellent) it's the proximity of the cottage to the owner's cottage. Don't misunderstand,...the owner is well aware of this and goes out of her way to give you privacy (ie she doesn't use her back yard when guests are in). However, personally, I felt the need to keep the blinds closed when I was in and working - would have been nice if I didn't have to do this.
All in all, a nice cottage which was 100% as described.I'll return!
