Mainstay has been a part of our family for four generations.
Our family compound is a labor of love, that started over 100 years ago with our grandmother's brothers and sisters. She came from a family of 10, and they all pitched in a built a family 'camp' where they would all gather together throughout the summer and enjoy each others company. Our great aunts made superb homecooked meals while the great uncles sat outside, swapping tall tales and laughing all afternoon.
The family camp called Sea Breezes no longer exists, but we honor their memory and share their love of this beautiful little piece of heaven.
Oak Point is perfectly situated on a point of land that looks out over Western Bay to Mt. Desert Island. The property is oriented south, so we enjoy lovely sunshine all day. There is a large granite outcropping on the shore which is called Table Rock, a well known shore landmark. The shore itself is endlessly fascinating to kids of all ages, and beachcombing and rock skipping are favorite activities
There are very good reasons why families have chosen Acadia for their vacations for centuries. The pristine beauty of the area attracts nature lovers and those seeking peaceful reconnection to a simpler life. However, if you are looking for fun and excitement, you can find that too with plenty of family oriented activities nearby - go kart racing, mini golf, kayaking, sailboat crusing, hiking and biking are just a few of the fun things you can do.
No question that Acadia National Park is a very popular destination with lots to see and experience. I've been to the Park more times than I can count, and never get tired of it. If you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of Mt. Desert in summer, then Mainstay is the place for you. Super convenient, quiet and relaxed, with access to everything nearby just minutes away without the crowds. You can't get better!
