We moved to Florida in 2004 after spending our entire lives in upstate New York - Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo! We live full time in St. Augustine. We love the beach and have always lived near the water. In Syracuse we lived at Oneida Lake, and in Buffalo we lived at Lake Erie. We still visit a family cottage at Lake Ontario. Here in Florida there is water everywhere! From the ocean, to the Intercostal, to the many marshes and inland lakes, you can enjoy the beauty year round. Summers are great for the beach because the weather is usually in the 80's or 90's. Winter and early spring time are the best times of the year with low humidity ,very little rain, and abundant sunshine.
Ponce Inlet is truly unique. It is on the tip of a peninsula surrounded by the ocean, the Halifax River and the Ponce de Leon Inlet. Although just a few minutes to Daytona, this uncrowded beach makes you feel like you are in a different world. The ocean waters are often emerald green and in the morning you can see dolphins playing. The sunrise is spectacular, and the sunset is just a short walk or bike ride to the river on the other side of the peninsula! We love the fact that Ponce Inlet is such a short drive to so many places- Orlando theme parks, Kennedy Space Center, Daytona International Speedway and even our current hometown of Old St. Augustine, the nation's oldest city, where Ponce de Leon discovered the Fountain of Youth.
There are sidewalks along Atlantic Blvd. which make it safe for walking and biking down to the state park or the lighthouse. It is so easy to pop on a bathing suit and walk right out to the beach! The white sand is hard packed so it is easy to walk on or to ride a bike. You can fish right off the beach and see plenty of fish in the clear waters. The jetty at the inlet is close by for serious fishing. The Halifax River is great for boating and kayaking if you don't want to venture into the ocean. With cable tv and wifi you have all of the comforts of home while being on vacation.
