About Richard Norwood

My name is Richard Norwood and I just built my first vacation rental at my Property on Tourmaline St. I have spent over two months going over every detail and I am excited to say that I am very pleased with the product and I am excited to share it with the upcoming guests. I have been in Real Estate for over 10 years. After I graduated from UCLA, I was a high school teacher and would eventually like to go back into teaching, however, Real Estate has always paid the bills. I also own an operate an outdoor adventure company, sending clients all over the world. I am an avid fisherman and love my two dogs Sadie and Mia.

This was a studio apartment and I decided that the location was so fantastic, that I wanted to spend the money and make the apartment a charming and beautiful place to have a beach get-a-way. I meet people all the time that get a hotel room is a sparse area of San Diego and have always thought how much more you could get for you money if you booked a Vacation Rental near the beach!

Accessible to Everything!

I was taking my dad to California for the first time, and found the listing for this cozy place by the beach appealing. Everything about Richard's place met or exceeded my expectations.

Location: So many sights to see and great places to eat and drink are readily accessible. Within walking distance we found a cute cafe called Leilani's that had great, inexpensive options for breakfast. A short drive to the north and we found ourselves in La Jolla watching wild seals beached on the rocks in Scripps Park. Lots of great places to dine and shop are very near in Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. We went to the San Diego Zoo one day, which was only about a 20 minute drive.

The Place: I would describe this as a studio guesthouse. It is adjacent to a main house, and there is a shared area in the back with washer/dryer, bbq, bikes, etc. There is a double murphy bed and a double futon - you could sleep up to 2 couples. We liked that we could easily convert the space from a living/seating area to a sleeping area and then back again. I found this more enjoyable to hang out in than a typical hotel room with beds only, also because of the nice residential location.

All in all this is a cozy, efficient, well-equipped place, and I would definitely recommend it. You cannot beat the price - hotels of good quality and close to the beach were considerably more expensive when I looked, not to mention the extra fees they often charge for parking. I look forward to staying here again!

Great Spot to Vacation Like A Local

This studio was just what I needed for my solo vacation to the San Diego area. Located in a nice local neighborhood only two blocks from breathtaking views, sunsets, and surfers at Tourmaline Surf Park. Easy walk to everything from beach and restaurants to churches and nightlife. Studio has all the linens and beach items you will need. I enjoyed watching surfers in the Pacific and taking runs along the boardwalk and ocean.

The only setbacks while I was there were the Spring Break party on the first night I arrived - which Richard quickly dispersed when he came by - and the outside tile work that was going on - which I was unaware of prior to my arrival but wasn't a huge deal.

On top of the superb location, the studio is a short drive to San Diego's main attractions like La Jolla Cove, Balboa Park, and downtown San Diego. I met some great local folks and had an amazing time!

Thanks to Richard for being flexible and working with my crazy schedule and for being reachable when I needed assistance.

This was my first visit to San Diego and certainly not my last! I would definitely stay at this studio again ... it allows you to feel more like a local than a vacationer, which I personally enjoy.

Wonderful stay at the Tourmaline Beach Studio

The studio was a great place to stay. The location was within walking distance of Pacific Beach. Mission Beach and other areas of San Diego were easy to get to. Lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. I enjoyed the surfers on Tourmaline Beach.
The studio had everything I needed. I enjoyed my 8 day stay.

Quiet, comfortable little place for one or two people -- and dog(s)!

Funky little place, quiet, clean, and convenient to the beach, a grocery store, an excellent French bakery/ restaurant, and a lively pub. Not fancy or spacious, but you will find everything you need here, including ample clean bedding, towels, bikes, beach chairs, cooking utensils, etc. The nice owners are eager to ensure that renters are comfortable and happy. It would be helpful if the owners left detailed instructions on how to use the dual controls for the TV/VCR, which I never did manage to master, but perhaps that's because I am a neanderthal in that area. All else worked just fine.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly
