Casa de la Luz is a 2-bedroom vacation rental home owned by, and located less than a block from, Hotel Luz en Yucatan in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
With the same perfect downtown location as Hotel Luz en Yucatan (just three blocks from the Plaza Grande), Casa de la Luz is a renovated colonial home and urban retreat that provides you with all the advantages of a downtown hotel, but with the serenity, amenities and added space of a private home.
The spacious entryway with original mosaico-tiled floor provides a cool hallway for entry from the street into the quiet retreat of the Casa de la Luz vacation home. Just beyond is the well-equipped kitchen, where we think we've anticipated your every need. Well, there isn't the latest and greatest food processor, but there is a refrigerator and stove, a central granite-topped island for food preparation, plenty of cooking utensils and a stocked bar for entertaining yourself and others while you're cooking.
Take your margaritas just outside the screened door... you can sip them in the blue-tiled swimming pool and still talk to the cook! Or the cook might be joining you outside to grill dinner on the poolside barbecue.
We're guessing you'll want to eat and drink outside in the covered dining area, listening to the tropical breezes in the palms. Or maybe you'll choose the living room where the flat-screen television, DVD player and cable connection can keep you entertained.
There's so much to do in Merida, Yucatan and staying at Casa de la Luz puts you right in the middle of it all... in a quiet, comfortable space to call your own.
Enjoy the city, and then come home and enjoy Casa de la Luz! And, if you need our services, Hotel Luz en Yucatan is less than a block away!
This is my second stay in the Casa and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Merida ever again. The location of the house is perfect - a few blocks away and you're in the heart of the historic district, yet when it's time to wind down, the house is so quiet. The house itself was designed so well - the kitchen has everything you could need, everything in the house works! The lighting and sound system is very cool, and there's a waterfall into the pool which is as soothing as life gets as you're sitting outside sipping a cocktail...I miss it already.
As this house is connected with Luz en Yucatan, you have access to everything that the hotel guests have. Seeking advice about what to do, where to go, setting up a taxi pick-up or airport transportation, etc. The house is one block from the hotel - it's really a perfect situation with it's relationship to the hotel. Tom and Donard are the friendliest and most authentic hosts you could possibly imagine and they and their staff have created a culture that is very warm and "can do".
If I could give 6 stars I would!!
We stayed at Casa de la Luz for 10 days in March 2013.
The house is in a convenient central location and just down the street from the owners hotel - Luz en Yucatan. It's close to good restaurants and all the many things to do in Mérida.
We spent a lot of time on the patio by the pool on hot afternoons, and were impressed by the beautiful stone wall.
The house is very well equipped and a maid came from the hotel every few days to clean, change the bed etc.
The friendly staff at the hotel - Tom, Donard, Esteban and Augustin were great for answering all our questions.
This is my second visit to this house. After the first night on the first trip (Oct) I walked across the street to the hotel to rent it for my daughter's Spring Break (Mar). I love Merida. The house is convenient, clean, nicely restored and relaxing. I have dealt with both owners- Tom on the first trip and Donard on the second. They have been so helpful making sure that they assist us and answer all questions. On this trip I also had a friend staying across the street at their hotel and her and her son thought the hotel was great also. The best part of the house is the pool in the back and the outdoor terrace on the roof.
We have stayed at the main hotel on two occasions in the past, this time we tried the newly renovated house that is owned by the hotel. In all the visits, we were very pleased with our accommodations and the staff were, as usual, top notch.
We now prefer the house but if it were booked, we wouldn't hesitate to rent a space in the main hotel.
We consider this house to be "our house" in Merida.
