House, 3 Bedrooms + Office, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This is a modern house with an open plan for the shared spaces.

Kitchen, dining, and living areas are distinct, but not segregated, whereas the bed/bath areas are clearly private. The wooded, 5 acre site is quiet and secluded, with no other houses visible.

There is a lot of glass, with a nice view south across the valley of the Indian Creek. The heating is a 6 zone radiant floor system, backed-up by passive solar gain, and a Rumford fireplace.

A sheltered balcony is an extension of the dinning room, while the deck off the living room connects to the forest. The master bedroom

has it's own deck, and each room has a distinct view.

3 miles from the Taconic Pkwy, on a paved road with no heavy traffic, it is always easy to reach. The woods are inviting, with soft grass between mature trees, hawks soaring above deer, turkeys, and more.

There is a queen size bed in the master suite, a double in the west bedroom, and 2 singles in the middle bedroom. There are extra beds in the storage room, and a futon in the spare room.

About The Owner

In the 37 years that my wife and I have lived in this area, I have designed & built a dozen

houses, of which this is the most ambitious.

My day job is designing & building custom furniture. We live 7 miles away, so I'l be available to solve problems.

The Owner purchased this house in 2001
Why The Owner chose Chatham

When I found this parcel in 2001, it felt like a serene location, with wild turkeys roosting in mature oaks, and hawks soaring overhead. I tried to make a house that would belong to the land, planning the house specifically for this site. Built to be sold, it was finished just in time for the market collapse.

What makes this house unique

Chatham is 4 miles away, with a movie theatre, a nifty Pub, and more then a few good restaurants. Hudson, Lenox, and Great Barrington are less then a half hour away, as are Catamount, Butternut, and Jiminy Peak, Tanglewood, and PS21.

Modern living in the woods

We stayed in this beautiful house with our three kids for several weeks this summer, and we can absolutely recommend it. The house is spacious, modern and very comfortable. If you are looking for a modern getaway surrounded by nature, this is totally it. There are big windows with great views in all rooms, and it shows that the house is built by a wood craftsman. Lots of designed wood details you won’t find anywhere else. The owners are very pleasant people, helpful and responsive, which is a great plus when renting a home.

The house has fast internet and all modern appliances, and has a great office downstairs in case you need get some work done also. There is a two car garage which I am sure will come handy in the winter, and also plenty of parking space outside.

The area offers plenty of activities. There are hiking trails a few minutes’ drive from the property, and we visited Tanglewood for world class concerts only about 20 minutes away. We had a great stay and would love to come back!
