The elegant interior, in combination with exposed rock walls, make Villa Coteau unique. Settled into a hillside above the valley of the Durance it possesses a panoramic view of the Provence countryside with orchards, olive groves and cultivated fields stretching out below.
The villa is located in the heart of Provence which has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Ancient villages and architectural artifacts dating from the Roman occupation pepper the region as well as many more “modern” structures from medieval times onward.
Coteau is a short walk to the ancient village of Verèngues. On the hilltop, the well-preserved ruins of the old village destroyed in a 1909 earthquake are well-worth visiting. The rebuilt village below offers excellent shopping and restaurants.
The surrounding area is a protected environment and the many trails that wander through the region make hiking and bicycling an ideal way to soak in nature or local culture, visit nearby villages like Alleins and Mallemort and to explore the numerous markets full of local produce, wines, cheeses, olives and prepared foods.
Outdoors, the landscaped yard features a covered terrace with dining for eight and a Weber gas grill as well as stunning views of the valley below. Natural rock formations are, again, integrated seamlessly into the design, including the gated pool area.
Honey coloured hardwood floors, antique tables and armoires, natural exposed rock and the celebrated light of Provence that inspired Cezanne and Van Gogh beams through French doors and windows creating a warm and restful ambience in the living areas. The well-equipped kitchen, complete with decorative dishes and local pottery, features a wooden bar for refreshments, snacks, breakfast or lunches. An antique table graces the integrated dining area with seating for eight. Natural exposed rock creates a unique setting. Sitting areas are both elegant and cosy with an abundance of comfortable couches and chairs, antique table accent pieces and a wood-burning fireplace.
The villa contains three bedrooms. Bedroom one has a queen size bed and a large sitting area, fireplace and library as well as a walkout to the terrace. A separate bathroom with shower, sink and water closet is located just outside the door. The second bedroom contains a double and single bed as well as an en suite bath with shower, sink and WC. Bedroom number three is a large master bedroom with a separate bathroom containing a shower and sink. A water closet is close-by.
Radiating timeless elegance and harmony, Coteau, makes for an ideal location for exploration of the heart of Provence.

We had a wonderful time, the villa and amenities were terrific.
Definitely for those wanting a quiet retreat which suited us as we had a our baby daughter with us.
Not for those wanting more action.
A pleasant and very private and quiet location.
The owners were absolutely delightful.
Areas for improvement:
Possibly install some screens on the doors downstairs to prevent flies from entering – particularly the Kitchen.
I would recommend to those looking for a quiet and relaxed holiday – as opposed to those wanting to be based within a more vibrant town with access to restaurants/cafes etc.
What star rating would you give Coteau? (1 is lowest and 5 is the highest) 3.5
