The ranch is surrounded by rural Cal Poly property with its extensive system of dirt roads on which one can literally bike or hike for miles. For a more adventuresome and secluded experience, guests are welcome to explore the ranch itself which is home to deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, raptors and other native animals and birds. Those energetic enough to hike to the top of the ridge above the house will be treated to a spectacular view of Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo in the valley below and the Pacific Ocean ten miles distant.
Whether you are visiting this area to sample its world-famous wines and restaurants, to explore its pristine coastline or simply to relax and unwind, you'll be glad you selected the Stenner Creek ranch as your home away from home during your stay.

Our family has lived in San Luis Obispo since the mid- 1950's and we purchased this ranch in the early 1970's. After retiring from his medical practice, our father built his dream house on the ranch and moved there to raise British White Park Cattle. We have decided to offer the property as a vacation rental because of its unique character and ideal location near the City of SLO.
Chuck Kirschner purchased this chateau / country house in 1970
The single most striking aspect of the property is the serenity one experiences while there. The only sounds you're likely to hear are the wind in the oak trees, cawing crows, squawking bluejays, the occasional scream of a hunting red-tail hawk , maybe a coyote in the evening and the distant sound of a train as it makes its way up or down Cuesta Grade. The outside world feels very far away even though, in reality, the City of SLO is just a short five minute drive away.
Great property to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet of SLO. Chuck, the owner, was very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely rent this property again.
We had family flying in from all over the country and wanted to rent a place large enough for 9 people to comfortably stay together for a full week. We found a few places that could sleep that many people, but not comfortably, and simply didn't have enough living space for everyone to enjoy. This home was exactly what we needed. The sleeping arrangements were fantastic, we all had plenty of room but more importantly there was ample living space indoors and out. The home is VERY nice! It really did feel like a luxury to stay there. We cooked almost all of our meals at the house and the kitchen had adequate pots/pans etc. The bathrooms were large and the laundry room was very nice. We had our 2 young children with us and there was plenty of room for them to play inside and outside. I hiked the area before my family got up in the morning and it was beyond beautiful. It was nice for the grandparents that there was a full bed/bath downstairs as well. The house is a bit far out on dirt roads, but it was worth it for the views and peace and quiet. It was still a very short drive to SLO and the beach. We went on excursions every day and it was a great locations for exploring the central coast. I would absolutely stay here again if I ever had the opportunity.
This house is amazing!!! We had a small intimate dinner for my parents 30th anniversary. The house is spacious yet cozy. We had everything we could ask for and more! The patio and views are spectacular! Chuck, the owner, was informative and very helpful. We will be staying here again!
We recently stayed at this property and couldn't be happier with our choice. The owners were great to work with and the property description was accurate. The home and grounds were well maintained and very spacious. The views are outstanding and property has a wonderful large patio area for entertaining. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for somewhere a little away from downtown, but close enough to shopping and other amenities.
I cannot rave enough about my recent time spent here at the Stenner Creek home, tucked away in the beautiful hills of San Luis Obispo. I was well aware of what to expect from photos but truly blown away by the beauty of this home and the surrounding greenery. We lucked out with weather and the hills were freshly green upon arrival. I spent the weekend here with a bunch of girls (all in our mid to late 20's) celebrating my sisters engagement ! The house had more than enough room both indoors and out. We had an itinerary full of plans for 1 of our 3 days at the house--wine tasting (at Toolsa & Wolf Vineyards),a bus tour with SLO Saferide and dinner at Giuseppies Cucina Italiana, downtown (highly recommend all of the above !) but honestly felt like we just wanted to stay and enjoy the home, once we arrived.
The owner is a gracious host and more than accommodating--easy to work with and get any information needed from. There is no doubt that we will be back to enjoy the home to its full extent very soon.
Many of the girls have lived in SLO for yeas or came back after going to CAL POLY and were surprised by this homes existence--a true gem--close enough to everything needed (Costco, downtown area, etc) but also tucked away to make one truly feel like they are having a little getaway !
We had a wonderful time at the Stenner Creek Ranch. The house is spacious and well appointed. Having a fire in the fireplace on a cool evening was wonderful. We really enjoyed watching the birds at the bird feeder. The views from the house are great and we enjoyed hearing the turkeys gobbling and sheep calling in the mornings. Making lemonade from fresh lemons picked from the trees in the yard was great also. The house is centrally located for great day trips to the beach, Hearst Castle, wineries and hiking. I would definitely recommend this property to friends.
