|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
A 3BR single level family house with a sleeping loft.
The bedrooms are:
* one double bedroom with a queen bed,
* one single bedroom with a twin bed, with pop-up trundel (becomes king sized bed)
* one single bedroom with bunk beds (twin sized), and
* a sleeping loft with 2 twin beds and a one twin trundle that pulls out between them (does not rise).
There is one full bath (bathtub with shower) and one half bath.
There is a large living/dining room with full windows across the front of the house, a family room and a sitting room with a gorgeous stone fireplace (unfortunately non-working) and a reading nook. The house features a beautiful open floor plan, post and beam construction, hardwood floors throughout, the stone fireplace, and an outdoor seating area with a dining table and chairs. It is an easy walk to the town beach at Lake Mahkeenac (Stockbridge Bowl) (3 houses down and across the street).
The house is equipped with Wifi, TV with DVD player, cable with HBO & cinemax, a washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, oven, full refrigerator, central air and heat, linens and dishes/utensils. There are also two kayaks (a single and a double) and one canoe that may be used by guests. There is a 1 week minimum. Sorry we cannot accept pets and smoking is absolutely prohibited.
The house is in the ideal Berkshire location - halfway between the town centers of Lenox and Stockbridge and 1.5 miles from Tanglewood. Attractions within 5 to 10 minutes of the house include Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Naumkeag, Ventfort Hall, Shakespeare & Co., Berkshire Theater Co., Undermountain Stables, Bartlett Farm Orchards, Stockbridge's Mission House, Canyon Ranch, Kripalu, the Norman Rockwell Museum. Downhill skiing is 15 minutes away at Ski Butternut and a little farther are Jiminy Peak, Catamount and Otis Ridge. Excellent hiking, biking, boating, antiquing, shopping and spas abound.
While so much of the Berkshires is to be enjoyed outdoors, some good rainy day activities include matinees at any one of the local theaters (live or cinema), visiting a local museum (the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield makes for a great day out with kids and the Clark in Williamstown is a first rate art museum) or for a more active day, there is bowling and mini-golf at the Cove Lanes in Great Barrington. Alternatively, you may just want to stay in, play games, do a puzzle or read a good book - we have plenty for you to use. Oh, and don't forget the outlets in Lee.

We are a family of five with three active children (ages 8-13) and a love of outdoor sports, family game night and the arts. We love that we can introduce our children to the arts in a setting where the arts are so important, but are also so playful that the children can really relate to what they see and hear.
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Our family chose the Berkshires for its natural beauty, abundant outdoor activities and cultural offerings. Only 2 hours from our home, it provides the ideal weekend getaway. It's a whole other world without requiring an exhausting journey. We have found ourselves at home here very quickly and are amazed that there is always something new to keep us engaged. We always look forward to coming back, year round.
We love coming up in the summer for the lakes, bike riding, horseback riding, the plays and Tanglewood. The children especially love the local food (mostly the SoCo ice cream and Taft Farm pies). We have found wonderful day camps here for all of them. In the fall we love the leaf peeping and harvest activities, antiquing and art museums. In the winter, we love the skiing, snowshoeing and the peacefulness. The spring brings all of the new babies to the farms and the biking and kayaking seasons begin again.
This house has an excellent location: equidistant from Stockbridge and Lenox (a vigorous walk to Tanglewood). The Stockbridge Bowl is across the road, with good swimming and is staffed by at least one lifeguard. There is lots of local theater and cultural activities within a short distance.
The house is comfortable, and has central air conditioning for the rare hot Berkshires evening. The kitchen is well-stocked, and there is a dishwasher, garbage disposal, and a washer and dryer.
We stayed at the house for a weekend with our 2 children and another couple with a small child. The location was perfect. We would head to the beach and return to the house for all our meals. The house was very spacious and had all amenities needed for a great weekend. The cable was out the weekend we were there but we didn't even notice the difference. It was actually a good change for the kids. We would recommend this lake house to all of our family and friends. we can't wait to book another weekend again next year or maybe even try it out this winter.
My husband and I were looking forward to a few days away with our son enjoying the Berkshires and this house looked perfect, but we were sadly mistaken. It seems a lot has changed in a year since the last review.
We pulled up to the house to find a rocky patio over run with weeds, patio furniture in less than stellar shape and a BBQ, which upon further review, was so rusted out that we couldn't get the burners to light even with a match. The backyard had been ripped up and was just raked dirt leaving us no outside space.
When we tried to improvise cooking our BBQ dinner inside we realized there was 1 cookie sheet and a very dirty oven in desperate need of a clean cycle, leading to serious cooking challenges.
Disappointed in how our vacation rental was turning out we tried to make the best of it but between the disgustingly sulfured water, a washing machine that left sand all over our clothes and a cable TV not working and an owner telling us to call Time Warner to see if they could fix it - I just didn't want anyone else deceived by the raving reviews on this property.
I know Berkshire properties use wells but the sulfur smell from the water was so strong, you smelled of it for hours after a shower. Good thing we brought bottle water with us.
The other major issue is that the owner has pulled together a detailed rental agreement outlining all of the furniture in the house and have posted some beautiful pictures of the interior. Unfortunately most of the living and dinning room furniture in her agreement and the condition of it do not match what was in the house we rented. We have no idea what happened but we literally struggled to find a place for the 3 of us to sit - it was like being in a frat house.
All in all a very disappointing stay and thought an updated assessment could help future potential renters.
We spent a week here with our adult daughter, my sister and nephew. We particularly enjoyed leisurely meals on the patio and a rainy afternoon in the spacious main room with surround windows that looked into the trees across the road, The house has a most beautiful fireplace. The kitchen was easy to work in and having a washer dryer was a nice added feature. We enjoyed concerts at Tanglewood which was just up the road and evenings on the beach just across the way. The surrounding area was absolutely beautiful. We had a lovely stay here. Although an hours drive away the Contempory Art Museum in Adams is not to be missed. The owner was readily available by phone and answered our questions as they came up.
This house is convenient to all the attractions that the Bershires has to offer, and is a few steps from the lake beach. We especially liked that there was a lot of light, both natural and electric. Very often, the houses in the area are dark. This house has lots of windows and overhead light. The kitchen was well-equipped. We had a great time.
This is a wonderful location for families with children. We had a wondeful time kayaking in the lake right across the street. The kids also loved the loft . The accomodations were very clean, and provided ample places to sleep! We all enjoyed the hammock watching the night sky. The owner was very helpful and accomodating. You are only a short distance from Tanglewood - where we watched the Boston Symphony; and downtown Red Lion Inn , I. would definetly recommend this property to friends. YOu will get excellent quality family time as there is no cable tv. There are serveral board games We enjoyed great games of scrabble. You are also very close to Norman Rockwell Museum.
