The Skagit river in the front yard, this house is an ideal home base from which to explore the area or just stay put. You can take a day hiking trip in majestic mountains and come 'home' to sleep in a comfy bed instead of a tent! There are several dams to visit nearby and the historic town of Concrete is fun to explore and nearby. This is also the perfect place to just relax on the deck enjoying a lovely view of the Skagit River or roast marshmallows at the fire pit next to the river. The large sandy beach at the community park is within walking distance and a must see with beautiful vistas. Bring your camera and your fishing pole! Come in the winter to see the eagles or in the summer to explore the North Cascades!

I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all of my life and love to kayak, hike and photograph nature.
Robin Mallory purchased this cottage in 1982
This is such a peaceful place and the river is beautiful. Easy access to the North Cascades National Park where beauty and hiking opportunities abound.
The nearby Community beach is easy to walk to. The road in the community are flat and great for a jog in the morning. I love to sip my coffee from the deck and watch the river.
We found this a very cozy and comfortable place to stay. It was very well-maintained and the kitchen had absolutely everything anyone could need for cooking and serving food. The washer and dryer were very useful and worked well. The TV could do with updating to a newer model, but we didn't really come there to watch the box all day, it was much nicer to sit on the deck and watch the river go by. It also lacked Wi-Fi, but we managed to pick up some internet at the local library. The town of concrete was much more attractive than it's name suggests, it has some historic buildings as well as a fine bridge and dam. The nearby Baker Lake is lovely and the location was a very good base to explore the North Cascades. We had a great time there.
We went to Concrete to view the eagles and wanted to stay for a few nights. Mallory Cottage was a great base to stay. It is just as the pictures show and was very clean. The owner was communicative and helpful. After spending a lot of time hiking in the rain the cottage was a warm and comfortable place to dry out and rest.
The river location was lovely. Though the weather wasn't great during our winter stay we enjoyed the view of the rushing river out the windows and door. I bet the back porch is a nice place to sit in the summer. We were also happy that there is basic cable since the Seahawks were playing in the playoffs!
This place is even better than the pictures show - it's warm, pretty, and felt much more spacious than I expected! It was clean and cozy and had everything we needed - we just had to bring some food and our excitement. It felt like we had a vacation home - much more comfortable than a hotel, and a great location. We never heard a peep out of the neighboring lots, and the beach access a little ways down the road was beautiful and serene. The yard was well-kept and clean, especially for this typically windy, rainy, fall season weather.
My daughter and I stayed here and had a blast - she's in elementary school so I was concerned that she would get bored when the weather turned rainy, but Robin has provided a great selection of movies and games at her cottage, and there is a place not far away in Concrete to rent videos. We were never bored and wished we'd had more time there.
The cottage is well prepared for visitors - with everything from cupboards stocked with dishes, pots and pans, silverware, etc., to bird viewing guides and brochures to the activities and tourist locations in the area. She made a wonderfully informative and organized notebook explaining how the TV, furnace, etc., work - just as you'd find in a big hotel chain. The bedroom with a curtained door was perfect for my daughter, who is sometimes nervous having her own room in a new place. She loved the way it was set up!
We received an email beforehand with everything we needed to know for the trip - a huge relief for someone like me who tends to over-think the trip preparations. We knew exactly what resources would be available and what things we'd be able to do in the area before leaving for the cottage, which helped us avoid overpacking. Robin was quick to answer any questions we had while we were there, and has a local contact for any additional assistance needed.
I didn't expect to get a cell signal while at the cottage, because of the location, but was surprised to find I did get a useable signal on the sunny days.
Some of the reviews on this site refer to the furniture as "old" and "outdated". While the may not be brand-new, the furnishings were in good condition and very comfortable. It added to the charm and "homey" feel to have furniture that felt like it belonged in a well-loved home. The beds were very comfortable, too - and we loved the electric fireplace!
I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone interested in a tranquil getaway surrounded by nature.
My daughter and I stayed at this property for 4 days. What a joy! It is right on the Skagit river in the most beautiful setting. The home is very efficient and has everything you need. We visited the local market for groceries. We cooked and relaxed the whole time. Lots of warm blankets to keep you cozy. The owner Robin is an excellent hostess. She made herself available and she was very friendly. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone in the area. Our stay was perfect and we were sad to leave!
Secluded, quiet. Cabin is very well maintained, lots of extras, nice park nearby with river access.
You will not want to return to the city after staying here.
Just need to bring your clothes and food. Everything you need is there, dishes, cooking ware, BBQ, washer, dryer, movies, games, comfortable beds, towels, etc... well appointed. Awesome location on the river. Friendly and accommodating owner.
The North Cascades Highway is considered the most scenic highway in Washington State and makes a lovely day trip from the Mallory Cottage. Historic Concrete WA is just 6 miles away and a walking map of this charming town is provided. Mt. Baker and Baker Lake as well as Lake Shannon are nearby as well. Many hiking opportunities nearby and hiking books are provided. The North Cascades National Park visitor's center is 33 miles away. When you visit, be sure to take the short boardwalk trail for an outstanding view. In the winter, eagle watching is very popular up river. There is a wildlife viewing area where Elk are seen regularly on Highway 20..
