The Little House on Howard Street is a historic 1923 house that has been completely rebuilt to take full advantage of its unique size. This cozy nest of 280 square feet was built as a stand-alone house and is now the perfect place to spend the week in Pasadena for a single traveler or couple.
Inspired by the “compact” house movement that has taken shape over recent years, the Little House on Howard Street offers an excellent example of efficiency and elegance. Stylishly furnished with modern and traditional craftsman furniture and art, it is the perfect alternative to a hotel. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant for walking, and it is a five-minute drive to all that Pasadena has to offer – world-class museums, outstanding colleges and universities, top-rated restaurants and shopping, historic Old Town, hiking and other outdoor activities, and the Rose Bowl.
The house has a newly rebuilt kitchen with a two burner gas stove, small refrigerator, combination microwave/convection oven for roasting and baking, coffee maker, and toaster. We also offer WiFi, cable television, iPod stereo dock, washer and dryer, air conditioning/heater, peaceful covered deck, and the privacy of staying in your own house.
Enjoy the exciting new restaurant scene in Pasadena and Altadena near the Howard House. AltaEats, Pizza of Venice, Lavender & Honey, Lincoln, The Eatery by Claude & Co., and El Patron are just a few of our favorites in the neighborhood. Not to mention all the great places in Old Town Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles!
The Little House on Howard Street is less than 15 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Burbank, which can all be accessed by easy connections with the Metro Gold Line or by freeway, one of which is the newly restored historic Arroyo Parkway, the nation’s first freeway.

Owner Todd Hughes purchased this house in 2006. He spent his childhood a few blocks away and was always fascinated by this unique house. Shortly after he bought it, he got married and he and his wife, Liz, decided to completely renovate the house and create a lovely, cozy vacation rental. Todd is the owner/operator of Hughes Estate Sales an antique, art, and fine furnishings liquidation service and Liz is a filmmaker and non-profit consultant.

The Little House was spotlessly clean and had everything necessary for my husband and I to stay for two weeks very comfortably. The location was neighborly, safe and every amenity top quality! My only recommendation would be to have a small couch and easy chair in the living-room instead of two chairs. After long days of fun, we just wanted to come home and put our feet up.
Thank you, Liz, for answering our phone requests so promptly. I do hope we can come again!
We loved staying at the Little House. It was clean, comfy and just right. We were able to walk to restaurants, grocery store, etc. It also had easy access to the Arboretum, the Huntington Museum, and plenty of other attractions. Mostly, it was a great place to hang out. Best, every morning, we were greeted by a flock of urban parrots. Loved it.
This cottage was perfect for me, my husband and our one-year-old. It has been updated and is very clean. It also has an enclosed patio area that we loved!
Wonderful view a bonus!
We had a great time. The little extra touches were great.... restaurant recommendations, parking pass, coffee, soaps and even popcorn!
Thank you for making it feel like a visit with family instead of just a place to stay.
We stayed at the Little House for one week, using it as a base to explore the area before our daughter graduated from Scripps College. It was everything we could have wished for. Delightful and well appointed----even a french press for fresh brewed coffee! Never felt we needed to get anything other than groceries for our stay. It is compact, but the layout is very clever in the use of space. It is obvious that the owners are very caring for and attentive to this property. When we had a problem with the front door lock, they fixed it that same day. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a comfortable and unique experience.
We spent 5 weeks while I was doing sabbatical research. We were amazed at how well the house was designed and how well we were able to set up a household in such a tight space. The location was great! I enjoyed running in the Angeles National Forest just 15 minutes from the front door. The only down side was that the chairs were not very comfortable for several hours of sitting. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed many gourmet meals. Having a washer/dryer was an extra special touch.
