ANNIVERSARY GETAWAY - FROM IT ALL!

  • 5 of 5
Caper Beach Cottage was the perfect getaway place for our 15th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed our time on the island! Waking each morning to the sunrise and ocean breezes will be missed greatly. The fishing from the beach an d point was fantastic - we caught lots of fish. The state park is amazing and we would highly recommend walking to the end of the island and also enjoying a quiet happy hour on the "beach logs"! The cottage is perfect for a couple. We made just about every meal and had everything we needed. The grill is awesome, too! One night while cooking two dolphin frolicked 10 feet off the beach and we watched while we cooked. What a perfect place!

VERY QUIET / SECLUDED - PERFECT FOR COUPLE

  • 5 of 5
If you really want to detach from reality, this is it. Very comfortable with just the right amount of practicality. Best beaches for swimming are on the other side of the island (2 minute golf cart ride). Fish from the beach 25 steps from your front door. Bring ice (store ran out one day). Gary is amazing... just a phone call away for any questions or last minute adjustments. We'll be back!

QUAINT LITTLE QUIET GETAWAY - TIPS TO ENJOY THIS PERFECTLY

  • 5 of 5
This was a cute little house. Gary was exceptional - there was just enough privacy with the right amount of getting you anything you need. He travels to the mainland a couple times a week and will ask you if you need anything.

Here are a few things to prepare you for this trip:
1- You don't need ice. He has plenty of bottled water for you and a few ice trays. The Publix will put everything into a very solid cooler for you.

2- With regards to food - if you buy any meat or seafood from Publix, freeze it until your ready to defrost for cooking...especially if your going to be there a full week. Publix tends to not be too picky when choosing the food.

3- Gary provides dishes and silverware. There is a dishwasher that "works". I chose to wash dishes by hand.

4- Gary provides a bar of soap for you in the shower, but you will want to bring shampoo and conditioner.

5- It's very quiet at night and the cabin is secluded for the most part. You may want to bring some sort of entertainment. Gary's selection of things to do is a little out dated.

6- Gary provides a grill with self starting coals so cooking out is not a worry.

7- I bought 3 cases of beer for myself and it turned out not to be enough for a week. I honestly thought it would be plenty. You'll want to bring enough because a 12 pack on the island is $20 and they probably will not have what you like. If your a box wine drinker like my wife and your used to the 5 liter boxes, keep in mind that the boxes from Publix are only 2 liters.

8- Make sure you bring and use bug spray. I was eaten alive by "no seeum" bugs and never felt it.

9- Keep the garbage under control - there will be ants in the room, but if you keep up on it they will stay out.

10- Prepare yourself for about a 45 minute tour when you get to the island. If you need to use the restroom, best to let Gary know before you get going from the dock.

In conclusion, I would recommend that you go here. The price is very reasonable and the service is exceptional. The views are great and the privacy is perfect. Enjoy!

THE PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Caper's Beach Cottage was wonderful. Quaint, charming, private. The staff were very helpful. If you want to take someone special to what feels like your own 'private' island, then Caper's Beach Cottage should be your destination. Can't wait to go back!

PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I visited this wonderful island and stayed in this adorable cottage for a short time on a road trip around Florida. This cottage was perfect and Gary and his assistants were friendly and wonderful people. Made us feel at home and welcome. I would have loved to stay right there for the rest of the trip but had reservations in different places and had to move on. But you wouldn't have to ask me twice if I wanted to go back I can't wait to see North Capitva Island and Caper Beach Cottage again. Thanks Gary for sharing your paradise with us.

PERFECT FOR US!

  • 5 of 5
What a great place to stay! We came to the island for a wedding and fell in love with the cottage the moment we stepped in! We were able to enjoy a much needed vacation and couldn't have picked a better spot. Gary and his staff were fabulous! They really know how to make sure your stay is perfect! They went above and beyond for us and really make you feel welcome! The cottage was clean and fresh and more roomy than I had imagined! The view from the cottage itself was enough!

NO CARS IN THIS UNSPOILED PARADISE,

As you may know, Upper Captiva Island is accessed only by boat, or by small plane into a private airstrip. The island is approximately 4 miles long and a ½ mile wide at its widest. A little more than one-half of the island is owned by the state of Florida and is managed as a preserve. There are about 320 homes on the island and of those, approximately 120 are available for rent. Four small restaurants, a general stores and two beach boutiques comprise the only stores on the island. There are about 70 full-time residents. Island transportation is by electric golf carts which helps to keep the island a peaceful and relaxing get-a-way. Beachcombing, fishing, and walking the nature trails in the State Preserve are a special treat for those who enjoy the simple things in life.
