Spicewood Estate Rental Photos and Description
3 bedrooms, 2 living areas, 2 baths, large porch with river view, sleeps 8-10
The RiverPlace home is located on a picturesque 95 acre property with a wonderful waterfront view of the Pedernales River. To one side of the house is a spring-fed creek that feeds into the river. Just across the creek is a large covered pavilion that makes a great picnic area. Our dock located where the creek joins the river is currently on dry land due to the drought. A short drive away, Lake Travis awaits you at Pace Bend Park, one of the largest Texas Parks and Wildlife parks. Our property consists of a 40 acre meadow and 40 acres of wooded terrain. The House is located in the wooded area, which is criss-crossed with walking paths. The RiverPlace Home is part of a small complex with another vacation home and the caretaker's cottage. While the property is adjacent to a small neighborhood, the property is exclusively for the use of our guests, and on rare occasion, my family
Our guests enjoy relaxing on the porch, hiking the walking trails, and visiting nearby attractions. There are a number of vineyards in the area that welcome guests for wine tastings or just browsing. There are also nearby adventure experiences, from ziplining at Cedar Creek Canopy Tours, to swimming in natural pools such as Hamilton's Pool or Krause Springs.
You are only 45 minutes from downtown Austin, with attractions such as Austin City Limits, Sixth Street, South by Southwest, Travis County Expo Center, and the latest F-1 track - the Circuit of the Americas just beyond downtown.
If you love this place, but need additional space, check out our other house on the property at Homeaway.com/366520.

About John McFarlane
We are both Texans by birth, and we love the beauty of the Hill Country. John is a retired ENT doctor and Suzanne is a retired family therapist. We have lived in Austin since 1976.
John McFarlane purchased this estate in 2007
Why John McFarlane chose Spicewood
The creek was what grabbed us and made us say, 'This is where we want to be!' Central Texas was in a drought at the time and this was the only property that we looked at the actually had running water on it. In spite of the current drought our creek has continued to run while the River has dried up and Lake Travis continues to drop. As a result, there is still plenty of wildlife to be observed if you care to take the time.
What makes this estate unique
Staying with us is like having your own, private vacation home in a large park with ample opportunity to hike the trails and observe nature up close and personal. Urban amenities are not far away (15 minutes to Hill Country Galleria in Bee Caves), but you feel like you are really in the country.
Guestbook comments from the owner
This is Texas Highland Lakes at its best!! These two Lake Travis homes have
a different view and flavor--one lake front, the other secreted along the
creek--but both share the best of lake fun and a quiet nature get-away.
This 95 acres of spring fed lakefront Texas hill country still has convenient
access to all Austin has to offer. The wrap-around porches are a perfect
set up for catching up with family and friends. The two houses are
furnished like homes--somehow you feel at home as soon as you walk in. My
favorite: a 1.5 mile hiking trail that winds through dense thicket, a spring
and open country giving glimpses of Texas' best wildlife and fauna.
