CLIFFTOP HOLIDAY HOUSE TATHRA

Tathra House Rental Photos and Description

Clifftop is a 2 BR unique retro seaside house with amazing beach and bay views

'Clifftop' is a special house situated above the beautiful award winning Tathra Beach. Built in the 1960's the house is quality double brick, retro style.

'Clifftop' features high cypress pine ceilings throughout, reverse cycle air conditioning and a loungeroom with spectacular coastal views. It offers easy care living with a well catered kitchen and bathroom with shower and bath.

The main bedroom has a queen bed with TV and views to the ocean. The larger bedroom is roomy and private with either a comfortable king bed or unzips to 2 singles. A 5th person can be accommodated if necessary on a divan in the family room (extra person fee applies). All linen is supplied.

The casual lounge and dining areas are located in the main living room overlooking the bay. Morning sun streams in during the winter months making this a great warm winter retreat. In summer the sea breezes temper the summer heat making Clifftop a wonderful holiday house all year round.

A timber deck at the rear of the house offers views over a private forested gully with established sub tropical landscaped gardens. Relax over a barbeque and watch the sun go down.

Clifftop is now on facebook at :

A maximum of 2 pets are allowed. They must be clean and well behaved. The house has a small fenced space connected to an enclosed rear balcony. Pets must not be left inside the house when owners are out and simple house rules must be observed inside. Owners must take full responsibility including any destructive damage by pets. Tathra beach is mostly pet friendly (information supplied), with plenty of local walks and parks in the area.

Before visiting our area owners should seek advice on appropriate treatment for pets for paralysis ticks.

Local amemities and interests

'Clifftop' is located right on top of the cliff with unimpeded views. You can almost reach out and touch the sea eagles as they often soar in the updraughts right in front of the house.

Whales frequent the bay in season and 'Clifftop' is the dress circle viewing location.

The house is very protected from prevailing winds and the northerly aspect adds to the warm ambience.

It is only a short 150m stroll to the one of the safest and most beautiful beaches in NSW. Cliff Place is a quiet, peaceful street with no through traffic. Only a short walk of 200m leads you to the famous Tathra Wharf, one of the only old heritage listed shipping wharves on the east coast of Australia. The fishing here is safe and productive with good seasonal catches of trevally, yellow tail, sea bream, mackerel and more. You can simply watch the action if you prefer while enjoying a great cup of coffee or lunch at the wharf cafe.

The local butcher, newsagent and supermarket are located right at the top of the street, just a short 150m stroll. Restaurants, clubs and the historic Tathra Hotel are all within a short walk for lunch and dinner, or a courtesy bus is available on request from some venues.

Just spent two weeks at Clifftop and we loved every minute of it. Paradise by the sea. Terrific location and very comfortable house with breathtaking views over Tathra beach, short walk to the excellent SLSC patrolled swimming beach and surf. Also spent some happy hours fishing off the Tathra Wharf where the fish were biting, bream and bonito. We' re already looking forward to staying there again next year.

Clifftop was built by my parents in 1960. Tathra was just a sleepy little town then.

I grew up in the house until I left for the city to university in the 1970's. In only a few short years I returned with a new family and 2 children to start a plant nursery and garden centre which we ran on our property 'Macropod Farm' for 28 years until we retired.

Tathra will always be my home and I love every bit of it.

My mother lived in the house until only 4 years ago, enjoying the views and the house itself. The house was loved by her and is loved by everyone who stays there. It is a great example of a quality retro house of its era.

We have refurbished the house with comfort and atmosphere in mind.

The garden at the rear of the house is a real surprise as it is built back into a temperate rainforest gully with many birds and animals within it. It gives a different perspective to the house with a rear deck for privacy.

We look after and service the house ourselves to make sure that everything is just so! We are very particular with cleanliness and making your stay as good as it can be.

Christine purchased this house in 1960

Clifftop will remain a family home. Our children love it too and often come with their families to enjoy it and understand what it means to us all.

We have set it up as a holiday house for the comfort and enjoyment of holiday makers in mind.

Who knows, we may move there ourselves in future years and sit on the verandah, as the past generation did, and watch the sea, the sun and the sand.

Tathra is surrounded by National Parks. Bournda NP to the south and Mimosa Rocks NP to the north. The parks boast many beaches, lakes and estuaries which are often deserted. Animals such as kangaroos, wallabies, possums, goannas and many bird species are a feature of these parks. Bushwalking, cycling, kayaking, picnics and fishing are all enjoyed here.

The hinterland includes the beautiful Bega Valley where the famous Bega Cheese is made. There are several popular drives which take you through rural areas, to wineries, small historic towns , art galleries, and more. Fishing charters are available if you want to catch a deep sea fish or you can grab a line and fish from the old wharf.

Adventure tours including kayaking, biking ,surfing, mountain biking are available by appointment all year round.

During the summer the National Park Rangers offer a series of night walks and activities, taking in animal spotting and child activities.

Our family owns a property close to Tathra and we love to take our overseas guests on a tour which takes in kangaroos, birds, frogs (in season) and our coastal forest which is quite diverse.

Tathra is a small town of around 2500 people. It is a place where nature rules, where the bush meets the sea. The people are relaxed and love life.

The climate is ideal for most of the year, tempered by the maritime influence, ranging from around 32deg C in the summer to around 15deg C in winter. We do get rain but not that often and when it rains it often really rains which is exciting too. The sea can be thunderous, making you very respectful of its power.

Activities you can do in Tathra include tennis, golf, bowls, bike riding and hire, swimming, walking, fishing, photography, cafes and great coffee or just simply sitting on the beach, reading a book or watching the whales in the bay and sea eagles soaring.

During the year there are many events and festivals in the area including the Tathra Wharf to Waves swim, The Tathra Mountain Bike Enduro, Bermagui Sculpture by the sea, Cobargo Folk Festival, Local Rural Shows , Merimbula Jazz Festival and the Biennial Four Winds Concert every second Easter. Many top musicians concerts, and markets occur in between the main events. There is always something to go to.
