We recently stayed at Great Escape that we found through http://DestinationBigBear.com. The place was amazing! It has a fully stocked kitchen and an outside hot tube. It was just as described online and much more. The booking was a breeze and the staff was very helpful with anything questions we had. We recommend this cabin to anyone

DISAPPOINTED

  • 1 of 5
I will begin with the negative because I believe it's always best to end on a positive note.
- When we arrived to the house, the lockbox code provided by the staff was incorrect so we had to call, and sit on hold for ten minutes, before they told us the new code.
- There were a lot of cobwebs throughout the entire house. Upon arrival, I walked through and brushed most of them away with a mop.
- The house was very dusty. My daughter is highly allergic to dust so she had a hard time.
- Several light bulbs throughout the entire house were out.
- The DVD player in the master bedroom did not work, and didn't have a remote either.
- The Jacuzzi would not heat up higher than 90, and shut down after 10 minutes of use.
- The shower in the second bathroom upstairs did not work. It just didn't turn on.
And finally, my biggest complaint is that around 9:45 we noticed people walking around outside of the house. When I went out to ask who they were, the person responded in a VERY rude manner and told me that they were there to start cleaning for the next renters. I told them that check-out time was not until 11, but they just continued to clean around the Jacuzzi. At that point we just decided to clean up and leave early.

On a positive note, Destination Big Bear was very prompt in responding to any questions I had prior to the trip, and refunded my security deposit before the end of check-out day.

Unfortunately I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend this house to a friend, but I do think that Destination Big Bear is a very professional company.

VERY NICE PLACE!

  • 5 of 5
We highly enjoyed staying at the Great Escape. We appreciated the cleaniness of the house and all the amenities included such as the well stocked kitchen. It's a beautiful home and I know they are still making their improvements also like the outside patio area is still in progress I imagine. The only thing we wished we had was a broom to help keep the kitchen and backyard clean. We couldn't find one. Also, the spa outside needs clean water...my kids got a rash and it didn't smell chlorinated. I find this to be a common problem with renting cabins is that the spa isn't maintained well enough. Should be careful about that because it can make people feel ill. Other then that the house was truly enjoyable and I know some reviews mentioned in the houseguest book of "ghost" there are NO ghost! haha...We felt immediatley comfortable from the step through the door!

Thank you! Will be returning.

The San Bernadino National Forest is adjacent to the lake itself. Located in the national forest, Big Bear Discovery Center is the one-stop shop for all your needs. With this stop, one will learn more about the Big Bear area; learn how to protect the national forest while increasing one’s knowledge and enjoyment of Southern Cal ’s most recreated forestland.

Winter activities in the surrounding mountains such as skiing and snowboarding complement the hiking, fishing, and biking of summer. There are numerous hiking trails in the area that each offer unique features. The Cougar Crest Trail is a four mile (round trip) trek, one needs plenty of water on this hike. The trail is very dry but as one goes through the steep and rocky hills, they get to see a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding mountains that make it well worth the while.

The Castle Rock Trail, a two mile trek, is considered moderate for the hiker who is “in shape”. It has beautiful scenery, a running stream, a waterfall, and a fantastic view of Big Bear Lake once you reach the top. Mountain Bikers can take the Sky Chair to the top and then go back down after you choose from many of the scenic bike trails. Whether you’re a beginner or expert mountain biker, there is something for everyone. If you do not have a bike, there are some available for rent, as well as helmets too.

For the skiier, Big Bear Mountain Resort offers more than 190 acres of ski area for the winter sport enthusiast. Bear Mountain continues to improve the Park for the upcoming winter season with a commitment to offer one of the best freestyle terrain parks in the world. Some qualities of the park include Southern California ’s only super pipe, more than 80 jibs, and more than 150 jumps. It is always updated with new redesigns in effort to provide visitors more fun, progressive riding and skiing experiences, and unforgettable camp outs.

San Bernardino Mountains , Big Bear Lake is a user-friendly lake that's great for personal watercraft, boating, wake-boarding, water-skiing, parasailing and fishing. And, don't forget kayaking and canoeing. Big Bear Lake also offers Southern California 's best skiing and snowboarding on some of the well groomed slopes at both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts. Unique shops, restaurants, and theaters populate the charming town Village . The National Forest is great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and rock climbing.

You won't forget the youngster in all of us when you come and enjoy the Moonridge Animal Park and Zoo, the Alpine Slide, go carts, miniature golf, water slides, arcades, Discovery Center and much, much more. Big Bear Lake also offers a great Golf course and some of the best antique stores and vintage shopping in Southern California .
