We are the property manager of The Great Escape which is one of our more popular cabins on our program.
Very close to the slopes and to the golf course.
Nicely decorated, hot tub, comfortable, stainless steel appliances, walk to slopes, golf and shuttles.
We recently stayed at Great Escape that we found through http://DestinationBigBear.com. The place was amazing! It has a fully stocked kitchen and an outside hot tube. It was just as described online and much more. The booking was a breeze and the staff was very helpful with anything questions we had. We recommend this cabin to anyone
The professional stove, outdoor grill and hot tub were great. The master bedroom was huge. We had to make sure that the bedroom door was locked when using the shower, as there is no door. The home has 2 full baths and a half bath.
The place was a little small for a family of 10 and not much of a backyard for small children to play. The place could really use some fans, as it was very hot at night even with the windows open.
The room with the two daybeds and trundles did not have a light switch that controlled the overhead light. I had to move one of the lamps from the master to plug in to that room. The deck upstairs was small and the outdoor furniture was dirty and we did not use it very much.
The hardest thing was taking the garbage to the dump daily.
We still enjoyed our time there. Nothing was that far away and it was not crowded when we went bike riding or the water slides. My deposit was returned right away which was impressive.
My family and I stayed here this summer the cabin is very clean , I loved the kitchen and there was plenty of room for sleeping...
Cons: the tile was cracked in the kitchen , there was ants so we couldn't leave anything out, and a lot of the light bulbs were burned out..All of these things can be easily fixed though and it they didn't ruin our vacation.
Overall this was a great place
I will begin with the negative because I believe it's always best to end on a positive note.
- When we arrived to the house, the lockbox code provided by the staff was incorrect so we had to call, and sit on hold for ten minutes, before they told us the new code.
- There were a lot of cobwebs throughout the entire house. Upon arrival, I walked through and brushed most of them away with a mop.
- The house was very dusty. My daughter is highly allergic to dust so she had a hard time.
- Several light bulbs throughout the entire house were out.
- The DVD player in the master bedroom did not work, and didn't have a remote either.
- The Jacuzzi would not heat up higher than 90, and shut down after 10 minutes of use.
- The shower in the second bathroom upstairs did not work. It just didn't turn on.
And finally, my biggest complaint is that around 9:45 we noticed people walking around outside of the house. When I went out to ask who they were, the person responded in a VERY rude manner and told me that they were there to start cleaning for the next renters. I told them that check-out time was not until 11, but they just continued to clean around the Jacuzzi. At that point we just decided to clean up and leave early.
On a positive note, Destination Big Bear was very prompt in responding to any questions I had prior to the trip, and refunded my security deposit before the end of check-out day.
Unfortunately I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend this house to a friend, but I do think that Destination Big Bear is a very professional company.
We had a great stay at this property. It was clean, & well stocked for all of our needs. I can not wait to come back. The management company was pleasant & professional. Thanks for making our experience so much fun....
We highly enjoyed staying at the Great Escape. We appreciated the cleaniness of the house and all the amenities included such as the well stocked kitchen. It's a beautiful home and I know they are still making their improvements also like the outside patio area is still in progress I imagine. The only thing we wished we had was a broom to help keep the kitchen and backyard clean. We couldn't find one. Also, the spa outside needs clean water...my kids got a rash and it didn't smell chlorinated. I find this to be a common problem with renting cabins is that the spa isn't maintained well enough. Should be careful about that because it can make people feel ill. Other then that the house was truly enjoyable and I know some reviews mentioned in the houseguest book of "ghost" there are NO ghost! haha...We felt immediatley comfortable from the step through the door!
Thank you! Will be returning.

There are numerous hiking trails in the area that each offer unique features. The Cougar Crest Trail is a four mile (round trip) trek, one needs plenty of water on this hike. The Castle Rock Trail, a two mile trek, is considered moderate for the hiker who is “in shape”. It has beautiful scenery, a running stream, a waterfall, and a fantastic view of Big Bear Lake once you reach the top. Whether you’re a beginner or expert mountain biker, there is something for everyone. If you do not have a bike, there are some available for rent, as well as helmets too.
