The Florida Gulf Coast region
Naples is the crown jewel of Southwest Florida -- nestled on the sun drenched beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Naples is known for world class shopping, dining and abundant, challenging golf courses. It is also, only steps away from island seclusion or the untamed tropical wilderness of The Everglades.
Boasting one of the nation's best sandboxes and calmest seas, Naples makes a splash with water lovers and recreationists. Friendly parks beckon sports enthusiasts and picnickers with lovely green spaces and recreational facilities. Naples is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida.
The average winter temperature (November-March) is 24 degrees. This goes up to about 28-30 in the summer months. The south west Florida region has become very popular in the last 15 years. South Florida enjoys winter temperatures around 5-7 degrees warmer than central Florida. Residential areas are immaculately maintained all the way down to the professional landscaping along the main roads.
High class shops and art galleries can be found in the 'old town' area of downtown Naples. The Naples beach and pier are definitely worth a visit. Visitors enjoy walking along the pier and watching the Pelicans and Dolphins. One mile from our house is the outdoors outlet mall- Miromar Outlets. Coconut Point and Gulf Coast Town centre shopping and dining are 5 minutes away.
If you're interested in a nature walk visit Corkscrew swamp. There's a 3 mile boardwalk through mangroves, wetlands and savannah landscapes. What's great fun is an air boat ride in the Everglades. You'll see Alligators close up and the birdlife is amazing.
The Naples Beach Area
Naples Florida beaches consist of long expanses of fine white sand, offering spectacular Gulf views and fantastic sunsets. Naples area beaches stretch over 30 miles from the Ft. Myers Beach to the City of Naples beaches. Beaches are only interrupted by the occasional pass to rivers and inland bays.
All beaches are public beaches. Within the Naples area, just drive west and you will reach the beach. Within the city of Naples the streets end at the beach, with meter parking.
There are only a few hotels on the Naples beaches and these are very up-scale accommodations, including the Ritz Carlton. Unlike many beach communities, condos on the beach do not allow daily or weekly rentals
For those that love the sea there are endless opportunities from boat hire, jet skiing, fishing trips on Naples Bay or on the Gulf of Mexico can be booked from Tin City in Naples. Tin City is definitely worth a visit. It's set up for tourists but has some very interesting shops and good dining.
GOLF
With over 50 golf courses in the area, Naples may have a greater concentration of golf courses than any other place in the Florida, and in fact, Naples proclaims itself as the 'Golf Capital of the World'. Golfing in Naples is a year round activity that is especially pleasant during the mild fall (autumn) to spring weather of southwest Florida. Our hot summers send golfers to the morning and late afternoon sessions.
Sanibel and Captiva Islands
Only 40 minutes away. They are both nature reserves which have beautiful, white beaches. South west Florida has no fun parks to offer. It's a more restful area than Central Florida. People visit the area for the beaches, golf, water sports and fantastic shopping/dining experiences.
How to get there
The apartment is right on 5th Avenue in Downtown Naples which is absolutely the best area
Miami International airport is 100 miles away and takes 2 hours
Fort Myers (Southwest Florida international) airport is 33 miles away and less than 40 minutes drive
Tampa and Orlando are 170 and 190 miles away which takes approx 3 1/2 hours
You can't fly from the UK directly to Fort Myers and so we think the best route is direct from Manchester or London into Miami and then hiring a car from Alamo drive.
If you need a Sat Nav and live in the UK we'll lend you ours which is pre programmed with routes and places of interest (a security bond will be required)
