We should have stayed right there for two weeks
We didn't know it at the time we booked, of course, but if we had to do it again, we would have stayed in heavenly Wengen for the whole two weeks we were in Switzerland. Very comfortable apartment, very spacious for the two of us. We were the only people in the whole building (five apartments) while we were there in September. Yes, the uphill walk to the town and cog wheel train was heart-starting in the morning, but it was short and scenic. There are no street names in Wengen, so be sure to get good directions from the train station. (Be sure to remember the name: Bergkristall. We didn't, at first.) Wengen is the perfect play to stay to explore the Bernese Oberland/Jungfrau region. Lots of people were riding up to Wengen and beyond, while we traveled down every day. The Swiss Pass made trains easy (it includes the trip from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, but not farther up, without an extra fee). I wish I could add photos, because the view from the big balcony is not to be believed or ever to be surpassed. Period.
