If you are ready to get away from it all this is definitely the home for you. This is a real log home and you will find everything there that you need to make your vacation comfortable and relaxing. All you need is your bathing suit! Sit on the porch... morning coffee is a great time to watch wildlife. This home has easy access and there is an area to park your boat trailer if your bring your boat!
It is fully equipped with cooking utensils and linens. There is a canoe available for your use, or feel free to bring your boat. The home is on a lakefront lot but you’ll need to use a flight of stairs and a footpath to get to the shoreline. The peace and serenity of this cabin and the lake is hard to describe.
This pristine 1100-acre lake is about 125 feet deep in front of Apalachia Dam with 31 miles of shoreline. It is a reservoir lake for Lake Hiwassee. This cabin is about 2 miles up the lake from Apalachia Dam and approximately 6 miles down the lake from Hiwassee Dam. Its normal rise and fall is about 3 to 4 feet a day because it is a reservoir lake for Lake Hiwassee. They produce electricity there and reverse the turbines at night to pump back into Hiwassee.
The lake is controlled by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and was built for flood control of the Chattanooga Valley area. The Forest Service controls the contour line around the lake and has designated the land within the 1320’ elevation contour line as a no-touch zone as far as improvements. Neither of them wants commercial activity on the lake so there are no marinas or boat rental places. This is the down side but the up side is the pristine wilderness quality of the lake. You can take any type of boat on the lake that you want – canoe, pontoon, motor but have to be totally self-sufficient. In fact the TVA provides a great boat launch below the Hiwassee Dam that is in great condition, good parking, lights at night and right beside the TVA maintenance area. I usually recommend visitors to try and bring a canoe with them. Fishing is good – lots of fish but hard to catch. It’s a fairly clear lake and cool so they are usually about 3 to 5 feet deeper than you’d think. You can get a fishing license at a number of local places. Be sure to bring your poles, swimsuits, rafts, etc. My family enjoys just throwing a couple inner tubes in the water at times and floating around on them. It’s a great vacation away from the hustle bustle of city life!

.....a true getaway from my fast city life. As business owners, not having cell phone or internet was very relaxing and stress-free. We went boating and fishing everyday. Swimming, grilling and exploring the waterfall. We also recomend that everyone check out the Brother's Restaurant in Murphy on Sundays. They have an excellent menu for Sunday Brunch. My favorite part of this trip was looking at the reflextion of the moon on the serene and calm lake....when we got a quick afternoon shower, the whole place sounded like a rain forest.....so, so relaxing. Thank you again and we hope to come back soon.
The peace and serenity of Lake Apalachia is unbelievable. We have played on this lake since 1984 - our kids have canoed with us, camped with us, explored waterfalls, hiked the mountains, and now as adults bring the grandkids to enjoy it like they did. Tubing, Wakeboarding, skiing are so much fun here because there is very little boat traffic on the lake in comparison to Lake Chatuge, Lake Nottley, Lake Hiwassee, Fontanta Lake, and Santeelah Lake. It is the perfect escape into Peace of Mind! Come and unplug from the real world and get recharged!
No cell phone service - wonderful! Kids are not texting and tuned away from family and nature. It is amazing how many families come away enjoying life again!
Think of a hub of a wheel - That's where Lake Apalachia is located! We are about 30 minutes from the town limits of Murphy NC.
