Hibbard House Inn – Your All-Season Home in the White Mountains

Closing for Winter - Dec. 1st - Re-opening May 1st.

Hibbard House is at the heart of your North Country stay, only 1 mile from the beginning of the western end of the Kangamangus Highway (Rt 112), New Englands most scenic roadway.

Welcome to historic Bath, New Hampshire, settled in 1765 and the home of three beautiful covered bridges that are still in use everyday. Across the street is the Bath Village Bridge built in 1832, and at 400 feet in length, is the longest covered bridge in New Hampshire. Also across the street, is the Brick Store, the oldest operating general store in America.

Make yourself at home in our large, but cozy, 1822 Federal home adjacent to the Ammonoosuc River.

Hibbard House offers the charm of a bygone era in every room. Whether you’re relaxing by a fire in the den, browsing through our antique books, fireside, in the library, or just enjoying the romantic glow of a warm fire in the privacy of your own room, while snuggled in an antique bed, you will feel the ambiance of 1850's New England.

Hibbard House accommodations include 2 spacious chambers with fireplaces. The Hibbard Room includes a queen size bed, and private bathroom with shower. The Pierce Room (named after fellow visitor Franklin Pierce, who while President, stayed overnight in this room, as a guest of his good friend, and fellow lawyer, Harry Hibbard) offers a doorway to an adjacent bedroom with 3 single beds and a pull away, perfect for the kids. Additionally, there are several other bedrooms, all of which have been furnished with period antiques.

Cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and snowmobiling trails are a short walk away.

Keywords: historical building, 5-bedrooms, covered bridge, 1822, large rooms, fireplaces in bedrooms, haunted house, large jacuzzi

Summer Stay August 2013

  • 1 of 5
Our stay at the Hibbard house wasn't a very pleasant experience. The house, our room, and excpecially the bathroom were not very clean. We were met by John, a family friend who was staying there for a while. He let us have our pick of rooms in the house, we took the Hibbard room, the only room with a private bath. While we were gone the next day, he used our bathroom, even though there were multiple other bathrooms to use in the house, and we were the only people there. We knew he had used our bathroom because he didn't flush the toilet and left the cap off of our shampoo bottle in the shower. I would have been OK with this if it was one of the shared bathrooms, but it wasn't. He left that day, so we never got to talk to him about the lack of privacy. There were also rat droppings on the kitchen counter tops. Everything else was about as I expected for a 200 year old house. The furnishings were un-believable to look at, the bed was very comfortable, the road outside our window was busy all night (logging trucks). Luckily on Friday a great couple from Quebec came and made the stay more enjoyable. They felt the same way about the cleanliness of the house. We did not here from the homeowner the whole time we were there, just John the 1st night of our 5 day stay. I would not recommend staying at this house, with the current owner, it is for sale. If the house was clean and kept up, it would have been a cool experience. Luckily it was fairly cheap to stay at, and they allowed pets.

Adventurous Getaway in Beautiful Historic Inn

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed at this wonderful old inn along with our yellow lab for one cold night in late November. The inn actually looks much bigger inside than outside. The ceilings must be at least 14 feet high (or higher) which lends to an open feel, and the windows are extremely large. Each room has an interior door that leads to another room. There are period antiques everywhere along with Victorian style furniture and lighting fixtures. There were numerous old books in the hutches and bookcases some of which intrigued our son who is an avid reader. We were told in advance there would not be any heat, but that did not deter us--we were ready for an adventure. Plus we were the only ones there and we had the whole house to ourselves which was quite incredible. The first thing my husband did was get the two old wood stoves going along with the fireplaces upstairs. One of the stoves is an antique cook stove that is still in operation. My husband and I stayed in the Hibbard room and our son and yellow lab stayed in the Pierce room. Both rooms are really beautiful with old wood floors, thick carpets and old armchairs facing the fireplace. There is an old upright piano downstairs in the lobby area which our son played and the occasional out-of-tune note lent to the eerie atmosphere. We are very glad that we brought our dog just in case she heard any unusual noises as there are many stories about the inn regarding ghosts, but fortunately it was a quiet, peaceful night. Overall, our experience was intriguing and adventurous, and the feelings we experienced while there ranged from awe inspiring to mysterious creepiness to a feeling of homelike coziness. It was one of the most unforgettable places we have ever stayed at, and we highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique place to stay with a lot of history, unusual charm and an abundance of character.

Home away from home

Th Hibbard House is the most comfortable, welcoming and pleasant place I have ever stayed. Full of vintage furniture and a genuine homey feel, it is quite simple a wonderful place. The owner Susan and the caretaker Rick are both extremely friendly, pleasant people who seem to enjoy having folks around. Rick makes amazing breakfasts, and Susan's gingerbread pancakes are ridiculously good.

Go here and stay as long as you can!

amazing times

What a geat way to celebrate new years! We had 12 people up for an unforgetable new years experience. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The fireplaces were already going and the house was very cozy but that didn't slow us down. The loud music was encouraged! Breakfast was delicious.. from the "spirits" and ghost stories, gambling room, beer pong, and the jacuzzi I couldn't have asked for a better time. Rick thanks again. Well be in touch for sure!! Say hi to oscar the dog we all miss him! can't waite for our next trip with our dog!

Hibbard Birthday Weekend

  • 5 of 5
A five star experience, celebrating my daughter’s birthday. She came up with 6 of her friends and we had the house to ourselves. With the hype of the hauntings, it was fun watching the ladies choose one of the rooms, all with old time charm. The kitchen allowed us plenty of space to cook the lunch, dinner and breakfast that we had planned.
The innkeeper, Rick, was right behind us cleaning up and making sure we had everything we needed, including lighting the many fireplaces that kept us toasty warm and added to the ambiance of the house. We did have a paranormal experience so know what the books are talking about. Definitely a wonderful, memorable birthday present and would recommend this place to everyone.
