Burnsville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

On the Cane River with 2 riveside parks: 2 bdrms + sleeper sofa, 2 bathrooms

'Trillium' at RIVERWALK...Private, Cozy AND Immaculate! Spend a weekend or a week in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great location for every season of the year!

Each of our cabins, Trillium & Morning Glory, provide a large, private, 6-person hot tub just outside the door. Sit in one of the front porch rockers to enjoy the view of the Cane River and the horses in the pasture along the rivers border. At night, look up and be amazed by the abundant number of stars in the sky like you've never seen before.

What would a mountain cabin be without the scent and warmth of a wood burning fireplace? Each of our cabins has a wood burning fireplace. We provide free and unlimited wood for our guests so you can enjoy cozy fires all day and all night, if you'd like.

If you demand comfort and ease while away from home, you'll find it here! Each kitchen is equipped as if it were our own for year round use. We also provide a starter supply of coffee, tea, hot cocoa and related supplies (sweetners & creamer) so you can arrive late, if necessary, and without feeling pressure to immediately run out for supplies. Tissue & toilet paper, paper towels, bath soap, dish soap, laundry soap, iron, blow dryer...it's all there. If you need something out of the ordinary, let us know. Chances are we can make it available. Once you check in we want you to sit back and relax.

Comfort, we demand it and so should you! Every guest will rest well in our beds. Our mattresses are all Simmons Beautyrest and guests continue to give our beds the highest marks. Each cabin sleeps up to 6 guests. The master bedroom has a queen bed while the loft bedroom upstairs provides guests the option of either 2 twin beds or a king. Simply specify your preference when booking the reservation. Each of the 2-floors has a full size bathroom. The sleeper sofa in the living area will sleep 2 additional guests. A porta crib is available upon request.

Wireless internet, telephone with unlimited long distance and the best cable package Direct TV has to offer is all included with our cabins.

Get out and see the surrounding area or stay on the property for your entire vacation (which is what many repeat guests enjoy doing). All the property surrounding our cabins is family owned and available for exploration by our guests. The neighboring barn and horse riding arena are owned by Laura's parents, Paul & Judi Ewing (the original Riverwalk cabin owners). For a small fee, guests may now book time with Judi and her horses. Kids especially get a kick out of learning how to care for and groom a horse.

Two private, family owned, riverside parks are available for guest use as well. Between these two parks guests can enjoy river tubing, a youth zip line, built-in swimming pool, fabulous trout fishing, a LARGE fire pit and a covered picnic pavilion with grill. Did I mention how fabulous our parks are for outdoor events? Weddings, family reunions, birthdays??? Yes, FABULOUS!!

2-wheel drive vehicles are usually adequate to get to and from the cabins to the state road. If you have any difficulty whatsoever, we live just around the corner and are available to help you 24/7.

About Laura Watrous

I'm Laura Watrous. My husband and partner, Brett Watrous, are the owners of the two luxury vacation cabins that make up Riverwalk Vacation Rentals. We love our life in the mountains and find great joy sharing our special piece of the world with guests. Our cabins were originally designed with the kind of comfort and luxury we strive for when we vacation.

Laura Watrous purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Laura Watrous chose Burnsville

The saying goes: 'I wasn't born in Burnsville but I got here as quickly as I could' The climate is perfect with four different seasons: Beautiful cool Summers, colorful Falls, relatively mild Winters, and fresh colorful Springs. Trillium is in a perfect location to make the most of why a Blue Ridge Mountain vacation is great any time of the year.

What makes this cabin unique

Trillium cabin is private yet convenient to features not available anywhere else. This cabin sits just above the Cane River. The view from the front porch is of the river as well as of the horse pasture which borders the river. Guests of Riverwalk also have access to two privately owned riverside parks which cater to our guests. One with pool & playground, the other with picnic pavilion, river tubes, large fire pit and youth zip line. There are 200+ acres of hiking and exploring right on the Riverwalk property. Neighboring farm with people friendly horses, donkeys and a goat. Farm owner offers horse 'time' for a small fee. Riverwalk is close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Mitchell and The Pisgah National Forest (pedestrian, bike, equestrian trails).

Great cabin, but be careful where you walk

  • 3 of 5
This is a beautiful cabin located deep in the heart of the mountains of NC along a burbling stream. There are over 200 acres of privately owned grounds to explore.

Cabin description: It is an A-Frame designed to resemble a log cabin. Very clean. It is a very cozy, well equipped cabin. Included are soap, gas grill, firewood, big hot tub, and coffee. Good Internet. The view (river) side of the cabin is marred by power lines, but it is still a nice view of the trees.

Grounds description: Gorgeous pastoral farm/horse country in the flats near the stream transitioning to steep trails with some mountain views on the roads to higher elevations.
While hiking the area, I inadvertently went down someone’s driveway. It was not marked with any kind of warning sign to “Stay Out”,“Beware of Dog”, etc. We proceeded with our own dog (on leash) to a large home. In the driveway of the home was a truck with the name of the development “Riverwalk” in large print on the side of it. I decided (correctly, as I later learned) that this must be the owner’s property and thought it would be safe to go below the house to a clearing and enjoy the view. I began walking to the side and below the home when I heard a door open above and some dogs barking. I yelled out “Hello!” and got no answer. Then two large dogs charged at us. I yelled “Hello! Anyone there?” louder. No answer. When the dogs reached us they did not attack but the signs were there: hackles raised, teeth bared, low growls…it was very tense for the 2 of us and our dog. I looked up to the porch ten feet over our heads to see a man observing these events over the rail. I told him I was a guest at one of the cabins and explained why I was there. I said perhaps I should just go. He did not respond even to that but did call the dogs off while telling me how “friendly” they were. During this time he never came down to curb his animals. We retreated while his dogs followed us to the driveway. My own dog weighs over 100 pounds so I am not afraid of big dogs. Lora explained that we should have taken a laminated map of the terrain with us (I did find that in the house later).

The area: You have the usual assortment of outdoor recreation that you will find in any of the Carolina mountains-which is to say there’s quite a lot to do within 45 minutes but not much within 15 minutes. The property is very hard to find at night.

Peaceful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
What can I say about this amazing place?? Beautiful. Peaceful. Tranquil.
We stayed three night in the Trillium Cabin in August with three 17 year old boys and we had the most amazing weekend. The cabin was stocked with everything that we needed to prepare meals. The beds were very comfortable. We slept in every morning :) The linens were very nice and there were plenty of extra towels. ( thank you Laura) which we appreciated with three teenagers and a river and a hot tub. The hot tub was hot and ready when we arrived. We enjoyed exploring the grounds and the river each day. We fished and swam in the river. The boys tubed the river each day. We didn't catch many trout. We did catch rock bass and creek chubs or suckers as we call them. And a few small trout. The river is absolutely beautiful! But small enough to let three teenagers loose to have fun on all day and not have to worry. The boys were from one end of the property to the other each day. They were exhausted every night and actually went to sleep before midnight. The hot tub was nice at the end of the day to relax. But the porch with the river running by was the place to be in the morning and the evening.... With a hot cup of coffee or a cold beer. Just perfect! We truly enjoyed our stay here and will return in the future. The other cabin that is for rent on the property is up the little dirt road that runs right by this cabin and follows the river. A great place for friends or family to plan a vacation together.

Great place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5
We picked this place because of the location - convenient to Burnsville and Asheville but secluded with hiking trails. And a hot tub! Very well stocked with everything we needed. Could use some dry wood for the fireplace.

Very nice cabin, very nice owners!

  • 5 of 5
I first would like to express how nice the owners of this cabin are. Our family first stayed at this cabin last October. One of our children had a medical emergency and we had to leave unexpectedly. Laura was kind enough to offer our family a credit for the night we couldn't stay...she didn't have to do this and we didn't ask for the credit. For that we were greatly appreciative!

Our stay at the cabin this past weekend was really fun and relaxing. The cabin itself is very nice and extremely clean. The property is beautiful, and we were lucky enough to meet the children of the owner who showed us around the property. Our children loved playing with them, catching tadpoles and newts, fishing, and ziplining. We had a couple of very minor issues at the cabin, and the owners were very quick and responsive to these issues. You really can't ask for more than that! We had a blast exploring the property, cooking out on the grill, enjoying the hot tub, and sitting by the fire at night.

We hope to return to this property in the future. To Laura and your family, thank you for everything!

Birthday weekend at Trillium

  • 5 of 5
Another fabulous weekend spent at Trillium. Laura made sure we had a warm welcome for our birthdays. Thank you, Laura. This cabin has everything you need for a pleasant stay. It doesn't matter if it is dreary weather or snowy. Trillium is cozy and bright and you feel yourselves relaxing the moment you walk through the door. Our favorite place to go!

Owner's Response: Well...you've experienced ALL seasons at Trillium in Riverwalk now, including ALL types of weather (rain, snow, clear and blue, cold, warm...) - Just proves ANY time is a good time to get away to the mountains when you stay at Riverwalk :-)
